Kmart ranked #13 SG in the NBA

you do realise that according to those same rankings, al jefferson is the 32nd best player in the NBA, chuck hayes is the 33rd best player in the NBA and Jackie Butler is 42nd...

theres tons of players ranked high that dont deserve it. take it for what its worth... these are per rankings, theyre based on statistical efficiency, and as it is, kmart is a very efficient player. but hes not 13th best shooting guard in the league. not yet anyways

Worst...these are projected rankings....which means they are not going by last years statistics but rather predictions of different players this year. Thus, they are in a way, very similar to fantasy rankings in that they are based solely on conjecture.

Well, not solely conjecture. Its predictions based on statistical analysis and trying to analyze what could be different for that player this year that would move them up or down. JH did have some criticisms of Kev's game.

Still, even good statistics can be manipulated or just don't measure certain things that do make a difference one way or the other.

Note: this is Hollinger again. And this time at his worst. Not specifically about Kevin, but the entire ranking system. He's back to more or less using his own made up PER stat as a substitute for basketball analysis, and so those rankings are messed up all over the board. The real title of the article should be "ranking of players according to how I think they will end up ranking under my own made up stat -- please buy my book".

Jackie Butler is his #6 center. Dan Gadzuric outranks Ben Wallace. Devin Harris is above Mike Bibby. Just much silliness.

The article is based on PER or Player efficiency ratings which involves a statistical formula. It's a statistical ranking of players similar to the use of sabermatics in baseball as a different way of ranking players. I agree that stats aren't nearly as useful in basketball but statistical analysis certainly should be a component of any analysis.

These aren't claims that say Gadzuric is better than Miller only that he's a more efficient player which isn't a definitive statement on whether a player is actually "better."

exactly, how is nash going to average 21 ppg and bibby drop to 17 ppg? when his scoring has increased every year he has played for us? his projected stats are horrible... ive picked better lottery numbers than this....

oh my bad its efficientcy not scoring... still makes little sense after i read the breakdown for it... useless..

1. If you think this is the worst article ever, you haven't checked some of the older stuff.

2. We don't close threads just because the article is silly. It's fun to ridicule some of this stuff, especially when the writer has the basketball acumen of three-day old pasta.

I'd rather have devin harris than bibby.
Trust me man, bibby is better than harris. Devin Harris is of the Tony Parker school which is incredible quickness and penetration with subpar defense and mediocre to poor shooting in addition to barely average passing.

I don't know what type of offense Musselman is instituting but in Adelman's motion offense, Harris just wouldn't work. He's combo guard that has no true position. Good player and I think is best as a sparkplug type guard off of the bench but he's no substitute for bibby.

Don't try to get sloter to see reason about Bibby, supamari0. His hatred of Bibby goes back a very long time and is totally without basis in fact. You'd pretty much stand a better chance of talking fleas off dogs.

Except that its not even really doing that as the actual ranking is based on PREDICTED PER. For example, Chris Webber had a PER of 18+ last season but Hollinger predicts that it will go down to 16. Thus, the ranking does not even indicate who is better by the formula that Hollinger has created, but rather by how he THINKS players will perform.
