Kings workouts

Of course Westbrook is going to say he's a PG, no one wants a 6'3 SG who can't shoot.

Take this with a grain of salt(since it's from Chad Ford I think) but some dude from espn or draftexpress said his shot looked really good at the Orlando predraft camp.

Whatever the case, he's no Eric Gordon in terms of offensive skills and scoring moves. My main point is, take whatever players say with a grain of salt; of course he's going to advertise himself as a PG, he'd be an idiot to say he's a SG or a combo guard.

It's hard not to like Alexander; he sounds like he has the attitude and work ethic you want from ever player on your team. I'd prefer Batum to him, but I can't say I'd be upset with picking him.

He's a better passer and ball handler than Gordon. Sure he's not the shooter Gordon is but even EG went through a stretch where he was absolutely awful.

Alexander was the most enthusiastic about playing for the Kings and said he had been a fan since JWill and CWebb days, JWill also being from West Virginia as is Alexander. Trouble is he is a bigger, stronger version of Cisco and is a 2-3 in a 6-8/225 body.

I think Gordon has better handles actually, I just think he can get out of control; still they're not great or anything. I heard somewhere that he had some kind of wrist injury that was messing with his shot. Regardless, I don't think you'd find any pro scout say there wasn't a significant gap between Westbrook and Gordon's shooting both from mid range and 3.

How would you feel about DJ Augustin?

Pretty decent, but not really great either. I'm worried if he has enough first step quickness to get by NBA pg's. I love his game though, it's so reminiscent of Steve Nash that it makes you drool at the prospects of it, but would Nash's game work if he was 5'10-11? I don't know. I think he'll be a solid NBA PG, but I would prefer a PG prospect that has bigger upside. I wouldn't complain though, unless Randolph was on the board.

If you've seen him play, there's a lot not to like. He can jump. That's about it. No fluidity, no quickness to the basket, no back to the basket game. I just don't see it with this guy. He's all hype and no game. Of all the names that are talked about as a possible Kings pick, I like him the least. I think he would be disastrous.

Well I can only go on the hype because I've only seen one of his games and I wasn't even watching that closely. Supposedly he's a good passer and has a good mid range jumper. His game would seem to be more like a Marion (with less quickness though), high off the ball activity and hitting open shots. I don't know if that's how he plays, but that's his potential. However, he doesn't project to be much of a one-on-one defender so that's why I like Batum a lot more; Batum's upside and all around game is much better. With that kind of athleticism and work ethic, it's always hard to be disappointed. I don't prefer him, but I'd have reason to be optimistic if we took him. I'm hoping he gets picked before us though, because it won't break my heart if he does. I'm hoping at least Randolph or Augustin drop.

IDK, maybe I'll like him less the more I find out about him. I really haven't looked into him that much since he really doesn't fit our needs.

Anthony Randolph has strangely decided to work out for a number of teams that seemingly have little chance at drafting him (Portland, Indiana) while refusing to visit teams that very well could—such as Sacramento. Randolph’s workouts continue to underwhelm many onlookers, to the point that it has clearly affected his confidence. On the positive side, his dislocated shoulder does not appear to be a short-term or long-term issue, according to teams that have studied his physical in-depth.

Phew, maybe we won't draft Randolph after all. I'm still thinking it'll be Darrell Arthur and a late-first...possibly Hibbert.

...which equals two big guys who can't rebound :D

I still like Randolph a lot. I get the knocks on him, but I think most of them are correctable and if he gets with the right program he can develop into a Bosh like PF. Even if he doesn't I can see him being a very effective hybrid type SF like Josh Smith. He's definitely a risk, but I think we can afford to take it. However, I don't expect Petrie to be the type to go for that kind of risk.

I still like Arthur a bit and I think he still has potential, but I just don't like him for us at this point. He doesn't have great length, he doesn't have great explosiveness (good, but not great), and he has too much to work on with his game. Would much rather go with Speights if we're going for a PF, has an even better offensive game than Arthur, has the athleticism, length, and nba body. Concerns about passiveness and/or laziness, but Arthur isn't exactly the most aggressive or hard working guy out there either; especially when you consider how poorly he did in the combines. The only thing Arthur really has over Speights is lateral quicks and defensive focus.

I think we're in the minority about Randolph.

I'm not sure what's going on with him though, why did he refuse to work out for us? It'd be more understandable if he thought he was going to go higher than #12, but then why did he work out for Indiana (11) and Portland (13)??

The only thing I can figure is that he looked at our roster and didn't see where he would fit in. We do have a lot of SFs and PFs under contract and for someone not educated about the specifics of our situation (ie that those PFs are mostly useless contracts we can't get rid of and Ron Artest may or may not be here after next year) it might look like he's going to have trouble finding minutes. On the other hand, it still doesn't make sense to refuse a workout for a team that is interested especially if you're a college freshman who most people will be drafting for potential not immediate production. Petrie is already on the record about not drafting guys he hasn't seen firsthand so I guess this means no Randolph in Sacramento.

Don't know what to make of that. Givony is pretty good on analysis, but his inside info is usually pretty shaky (remember the KG to Sacramento rumor he started??). I think most of his stuff comes from agents, and well, enough said.

Well I hope it's true because another top talent in the draft improves the quality of players available where we're picking.
