It's all rather arbitrary, but I likewise find myself hoping the Kings manage to get to 50. It would represent a 20-win improvement (!!!) on their finish last season, and 50 wins has always felt like the NBA cut-off for entry into the serious contender conversation.
5-3 for 50. Feels important.
First, here's who they have left.
Minnesota Timberwolves
@Portland Trail Blazers
@Portland Trail Blazers
San Antonio Spurs
@New Orleans Pelicans
@Dallas Mavericks
Golden State Warriors
Denver Nuggets
Certainly no cakewalk. But playing only 1 team w/a better record if they don't get to 50 it'll mark a bit of a slump going into the playoffs.
Plus, all the talk here over the last few years, including early this year, assumed the Kings would make only incremental, stepwise progress, if any. Well, they've already made much more than that, but, as you say,
@Padrino, 50+ would really underline that point. I dunno that 50+ is the cutoff for "serious contender" - historically, it's more like 55+ in an 82-game season - but it's certainly been the somewhat arbitrary cutoff for "very good team."
