He has never had handles, can't go left and probably related, he has no 1 on 1 game. That's the guy we drafted. He has to hit darn near every shot he puts up or the pick will have been a mistake. Today was fine but we saw all the goods and bads. He was also known as being a decent defender but that's a topic difficult to discuss as there aren't the tons of stats to describe it. I'm being serious. 1/2 of the game is not discussed and is not valued when it comes time to discuss salaries.
Yeah, unless you're a shotblocker or you grab a ton of rebounds, there's not a lot of stats that prove your worth defensively. Which is probably a good thing really if you're in the business of scouting under-appreciated talent. We just picked up a guy who may be one of the top 5 perimeter defenders in the league for a couple of second round picks. That's as close as it gets to a free giveaway in the NBA and all because he doesn't have much of an offensive game. You probably aren't going to win with a team that can only defend, but if you know how to scout and develop that side of the game you have a definite advantage in this league. Not that many teams do it well.
