Nah, we would have gotten blown out but would have won the 4th quarter 35-20
but that's ok because tanking with Haliburton is ok since he hasn't gotten paid yet and we're going to build around him over the next 4 years while we demand the drought be over.

In terms of moral victories, playing the Nuggets to the buzzer despite missing your all-star big man and most of your wing depth takes the cake.
Moral victory #2: Nuggets have the Warriors tomorrow night, on the second half of a back-to-back. So, when the Warriors run them off the floor, the Kings will be able to say that they softened the Nuggets up for them.

On the other other hand, Trey Lyles might actually be a keeper?
Definitely the hope is that one or two of the "throw in" guys would stick to be rotation guys after you draft and presumably trade Holmes for future starters. And maybe you do enough next year for a Chris Paul type vet that sees a little momentum that they can take all the credit for.

I truly think replacing Gentry with a quality coach can seriously be like 7-10 wins. He's somehow worse than Walton.
I find it hard to believe he could surrender multiple huge leads by just being bad but...

And I'm still not totally sure that TD might not be a HUGE piece moving forward. It's possible to come in next year with an all Davis SG spot next year at this point and if they did? Eh, might be doable. really doable.

Lets see how well he does, but if this draft comes out with a top 3 pick there might be a special place in Kings lore for one Alvin Gentry, haha.

Of the many many things that can be said about Luke Walton, the annual fools gold nuke the lotto late season win streaks were one of the worst parts of his tenure. Hopefully Alvin and the refs keep this up. Come to think of it the league office may want to look at Fox hitting folks in the head for a possible suspension

On the other other hand, Trey Lyles might actually be a keeper?

He's solid, basically been as advertised. Occasionally can pop for a big game, plays within the offense, makes good decisions, fine enough on defense. We can't afford him to be a starter in a season we actually want to win, but I wouldn't mind bringing him back for his contract next year (basically free).

Who you taking between Metu/Lyles for the back-up 4 spot next year?

Yeah, slick little upgrade on that one.

Sabonis/Jones/Len
Barnes/Lyles/
(Murray??? Benedict??? Shaedon Sharpe??? Johnny Davis)/Holiday/
Davis (who we actually really really miss)/DiVincenzo
Fox/Mitchell

is the really solid foundation of a competent NBA roster now that we've seen how Lyles can slot in off Sabonis and Fox. Couple that with the assets from a Holmes trade and our full MLE and the Kings are in much better shape as a viable basketball team than they've been since at least the Malone years as long as Vivek lets Monte hire the right coach (David Adelman or Stan Atkinson please). Turning Marvin Bagley into two rotation players might be Monte's best move of all.

TD his last 16 games before getting hurt:

21 MPG
14.3 PPG
3.9 RPG
1.9 APG
40.2% 3pt
61.8% TS (!!!)

Basically the exact mold we've been missing to slot in with the offensive core as a spacer/secondary microwave scorer. Makes the off-season way easier if he builds into that 4th bench scorer/spacer microwave.

Could really use a big who can defend and shoot the 3 and there happen to be 2 of them at the top of this year’s draft
Assume talking about C. Holmgren and J. Smith. How to get #1 or #2 pick? Two ways possible but no guarantee. All out tank from here on. A trade like say H. Barnes, R. Holmes plus our #1 to move up.

I think it really depends on who we draft. (Also Metu is a free agent next year but also probably an option as the 14th/15th man on the roster.) If we go with Keegan, I think you can go with Lyles as back up four since Keegan provides some of the defensive capabilities/switchability that Metu does. If we end up with Johnny Davis or one of the 2/3s like AJ or Benedict, I think Metu becomes more important as a weak side defender next to Sabonis.

Pretty sure Lyles is the backup four either way, considering how cheap his contract option is next season.

If we're looking for bigs who can defend and shoot the three, Keegan Murray's not that bad of consolation prize and much more realistic than us somehow leapfrogging the Rockets/Pistons/Magic for the first overall pick.

First time I've ever commented on it, but I'm sorry if it struck a nerve.
He doesn’t like the defense against the predictions of the fox hot takes, you gotta wait to see how outrageous the fox blame is before it’s allowed. Usually gotta give it a couple hours post game, but wait until you see fox is the reason we lost after scoring 32/10/5 on +50% 4/6 from 3 and the opponent fox wasn’t guarding lead the way, that’s when you pounce. ;)

I feel like teams with top 2 picks rarely trade down. It isn't a given that Smith and Holmgren are the top 2, but it does look extremely likely that will be the case which means lotto luck is the only way either of them get to Sacramento. Even with an all-out tank from here we wouldn't get any higher than the #4 slot pre-lotto and even that would be tough with OKC's proven tanking prowess. So we're going to be sitting at the 5th or 6th slot most likely which is 20% odds of moving into the top 2. That would be nice, but we can't bank on it.
