[Game] Kings vs. Lakers, 10/29/2023 6pm Pacific 9pm Eastern

The last game winner shot by Keegan before OT, I thought he would have nailed it had he come a little closer to the line...a little bit further out imo. He always shoot behinds the line, not further out. Monk came through in OT...Huerter play great...hope he stay consistent, that's what matter...this game shows he belong. If he keeps playing like this, no one will be talking about him as defensive liability. He did great in terms of team defense, helping out teammates and blocking shots...this is something I wish I see Barnes do every game....but Barnes is never known as a team defensive player...more so individual defender. I thought Vezenkov ain't a bad defender...he knows how to use angle and body....he is a smart player and understand the game...him cutting to the basket when he knows his teammate is in trouble is something that can't be taught....he just know and seems to be a winner. Hopefully, FOX injury isn't serious and take about a week to heal...because then he'll miss only 1 game.
 
I dunno about Fox's call to sub back into the game. Yeah leadership, yeah guts and energy. But the way you get major injuries is by playing on minor injuries.
 
Btw - I'm not even sure we win this without Sasha. That man flat out knows how to play this game and typically makes the smart play + his timing couldn't have been better each time he did make a play, either to keep us ahead or keep us alive.

I've wanted to hate on Javale getting rotation minutes so much, but can't deny how effective he's been in the reserve role. Outside giving LA 2 free points in OT ( LOL), he's been damn good as a rim runner and space eater on defense. And he just brings some "nasty" when he's on the floor where you know he's not going to take any nonsense. Between him and Sasha, we definetly upped our "Ain't no punk" levels.

Things are going to get real tight when Lyles gets back. If we were to base the guy who gets cut off performance, I think it'd pretty clearly be Davion so far off the bench.

Boy those shots damn near stopped my heart each time, down the stretch. Whatever zone defense we were playing needs to cease, or the constant switching needs to stop if we're only going to give up an easy basket at the rim or an open perimeter shot.

True, i guess the good news is that he was able to walk a bit and he didn't just sit in the locker room for the rest of the game. If he needs to sit out 2 to 5 games, i'm not mad at that. It's still so early.

A lot of that was disconcerting for sure, but, implementing 3 to 4 new guys in the rotation that are still finding chemistry on both ends isn't easy - yet we still controlled most of this game and beat a Western Conference finals team in OT without Fox, who was the best player on the floor tonight. I saw more good things than bad tonight.

Took Vezenkov 3 games to fully win me over. Has a brilliant understanding of off-ball movement offensively and he's got that fire that every 3pt sniper really needs to be successful in this league. Where it doesn't matter if he's 1-6, dude is going to pull every open look he gets and then some. We absolutely needed that last year in the playoffs. No doubt he's going to have some 5+ 3PM games this year where he pops for a monster game.

And he competes hard, especially on the glass.

Let's go Kings! Lucky to have been out there at G1C. Such a big win. Team victory. This team feels good, so deep I think we can go 3-4 games w/o Fox if we have to. Proud of our team to shut down LA and to respond to what happened Friday.
 
Glad to see Huerter get out of his 3pt shooting slump. He really needed that clutch 3pt shot tonight. More impressive than his 3pt shooting was his defense. He was all over the place and did an amazing job shutting down Reaves. There were a couple possessions where he switched onto unfavorable matchups, but played them extremely well. We are a much better team when Kevin hits his open shots and plays defense.

Keegan is having a rough scoring start to his 2nd season, but I loved the way he was able to play himself back in today's game. I wish he hit the game winning shot. Defense was another story though. I thought he played poor on that end today. Hopefully he looks back at the Utah tape and see those areas where he excelled.

Defense was awful tonight. The Kings are fortunate that the Lakers missed a bunch of WIDE open shots at the end. On a better team, they'd make us pay for those "mistakes." Defense is looking worse and worse every game. We're not going to keep getting away with this.

Lastly, I really hope Fox is alright. I think he's the soul of this team and we don't win many games without him

I feel like a kid in a candy store, having this deep roster. We haven't had this luxury for ages it seems and it's not surprising Davion, who was an indispensable part of the bench last season becomes an odd man out all of a sudden.

You did get a chance to see a no-Center lineup at the end of the 4th quarter, when Vezenkov went in for Sabonis after Domas fouled out. Lakers outscored us 11-7 in those last 3 minutes, but I think it indicates that the coaching staff does plan to use that setup situationally, whether it's with Lyles or with Vezenkov.

Yeah, i'm not as ready to count Davion out just yet because it's taken him a while to get going before, but our depth is beautiful. No way in the world we win without Fox and Sabonis in an overtime period last season. No way.

Vezenkov's got some intangibles other players don't have. He's got a knack for spacing, and his quick release is fun to watch even when it doesn't go in.

The Lakers came into the game shooting 27% from 3. I would bet part of the plan on defense was to keep them out of the paint and prove they could hit some trees.

I watched with a group of friends and we were all shaking our heads every time one of the LA scrubs was nailing another 3. They aren’t near as good as they were shooting it, and luckily finally came back down to earth.

It's a damn shame Fox was in foul trouble and then got hurt because he was going to absolutely DESTROY the Lakers tonight, and the refs knew it.

Kudos to Keegan for staying mentally strong and stepping up, as well as Monk and Huerter and to a lesser extent Sabonis.

The refs really let the Lakers dictate the game, and they still lost. It was another one of those 5 on 8 games. The refs called things on the Kings that they let go on the Lakers, and I really hope the Kings film crew does their job and sends film to the league office from this one as it never should have gone to OT.

Kudos to the Kings for overcoming an obvious bias and disadvantage to still get the win.

I hope Foxy is ok. Dude is on another level right now. Like, All NBA first team level.

Lakers had the highest FT differential last season, and IIRC, have taken more FTs in each of their games this season.

So yes, send the film to the league office, but nothing will come of it. 29 teams are likely doing it regularly, and the league likely has a filter set to send it to trash on arrival.
