[Game] Kings vs D-League select - 7/14/14

Nik really reminds me of Manu, I would love if during the season he could at times play the point (I would say right now he's a way better PG than Ray) while Ben plays the two. Nik has that legit natural feel and talent for both scoring and passing that we literally have not had since Doug Christie I guess. The pace he plays at is near perfect and man could I see him and Cousins on the pick n roll for the next decade tearing teams apart. Perfect 3rd option for us.
Holy crap am I impressed with the guys skillset literally the 1st pick since DMC I have had zero issue or concern about after actually watching them. I wonder if drafting Nik actually made it easy to let go of IT since he could essentially be the 2nd/3rd PG on the squad.
#I also really would like Brooks as our 6th man he can just do so many things at the offensive end he can be our Jamal Crawford (more driving/slashing than shooting).
#Mooreland's athletic ability and contesting of shots really impressed me
#Acy terrible first quarter but came good the jumper is looking might sweet needs to shoot it more when open

I don't remember this cause I had never really seen him play and I asked on here if he could be a smaller Gordon Hayward and I got a big no. But yeah dude's got more natural playmaking ability than anyone on the roster from a offensive stand point he could easily play the PG position. On defense we can put Ben on the PG due to his insane athletic abiliity.

Maybe they had a meeting with their coach, and learned many interesting things about themselves? 
Malone needs a rule that there needs to be at the minimum two pass attempts on all offensive plays unless it's transition for an easy bucket or something.
I, too, love the indication he has the tools to play PG. Not because I want him to play PG but because having someone in the SG with those talents really broadens the team's ability to set any and all 5 players up. Something that was grossly missing last year, and for that matter, the year before. A real positive for the team if Stauskas can play that role.
I'm not sure if they understand the value of keeping everyone in rhythm, by keeping the ball moving. During the finals, Miami coach Eric Spolstra told his team..."nobody will be in rhythm, if the ball sticks". Greg Popavich has preached it for years and obviously his current team 'gets it'.

Watching the game now and the 3rd quarter just ended. I have to say that the biggest thing I feel is a bit of disappointment. Dwill is soo...talented. Honestly, out of everyone on the SL team, he has the most potential but I don't know if he'll ever get there. He keeps flashing the talent in this game with a crazy turn around jump shot that hit nothing but net, going up for rebounds, a beautiful change of angle shot right under the hoop to avoid the leaping shot blocker, even a gorgeous 3 point shot.
But then again, we've seen time and time again during SL and also last year where he looks completely lost and over matched. I can't quite put my finger on what it is, but there is something holding his game back. Not sure if it's confidence in his skills or a mental issue that causes him to go into full goofus mode.
He reminds me a bit of Matthew Stafford on my Lions team. Flashes the physical tools and sometimes makes a pass that drops your jaw, but then on the very next play throws a pick 6. Everyone talks about the big arm and the potential, but it hasn't quite fully developed yet.
I don't know if Dwill ever hits his ceiling, but if he does, he can be a legit All Star. Meanwhile, his floor is right about where he is now, as a career back up. Something needs to happen in his brain to bring it all together.

It's absolutely mental and it's effect on confidence and 'feel'. When he has his 'mojo' going, like he did when he first came in with us this past season, he is a big factor at the 3 position. As soon as doubt creeps in, as to whether he's making the right play or decision....it's downhill big time. It effects everything.

I believe he played better when he was starting and didn't have to play behind anybody, because he knew he would get a lot of time on the floor, regardless of mistakes. It actually 'freed him up' mentally. Hopefully things go enough his way, where he has a chance for this to happen

All I want from Dwill or any of our young guys is to improve something every off season. Even the best players do this. I can see that Ben has worked on his handles and is now trying to become more of a slashing guard, when he was a spot up shooter out of college. Acy is working on that outside jumper, and it shows. I don't know what Dwill is working on. That's my concern.
I do like the idea, but the only concern would be...does he start forcing off the dribble, which doesn't seem to be his game at this point. Maybe they want to keep trying to be that type of player, especially in a working atmosphere like this summer league.
He seems more accurate on a in rhythm long fade away, vs a contested jump shot off of multiple dribbles. I like him catching and shooting or rhythm releasing off a 1 dribble "step set"

I'm very happy with what I'm seeing right now, as it appears our coaching staff has actually been working with the guys between the games. There's definite improvement between the first game and this one.
I think our Kings are gonna be a lot more fun to watch this year.
