[Game] Kings vs D-League select - 7/14/14

It's absolutely mental and it's effect on confidence and 'feel'. When he has his 'mojo' going, like he did when he first came in with us this past season, he is a big factor at the 3 position. As soon as doubt creeps in, as to whether he's making the right play or decision....it's downhill big time. It effects everything.

He's a guy who needs to be on the floor a lot, in order to "play through it" and gain flow. I believe he played better when he was starting and didn't have to play behind anybody, because he knew he would get a lot of time on the floor, regardless of mistakes. It actually 'freed him up' mentally. Hopefully things go enough his way, where he has a chance for this to happen
It is an interesting thought. If we never traded for Gay and Williams continued to have the intimidating presence of Salmons or Outlaw to replace him [sarcasm], would he have been able to sustain his level of play? And if he did, would he continue to develop his game and become a good/great player in this league?

For the Kings sake, this point is moot since we have Gay.

Walt Clyde Frazier... :p
Wouldn't that be W"C"F?

And how many people born after... oh, I don't know, let's just say 1990, know that Clyde is not his actual middle name? I can just imagine kids who were born long after he retired thinking that's part of his actual name, like Stephen A. Smith, or something.

W"CtG"F... feel better now? :p

I don't mean to be picky, and I could be wrong here, but I don't really remember Wal Fraizer having the nickname "The Glide" added to the nickname Clyde. As far as I recall Clyde the Glide was pretty exclusive to Clyde Drexler. They called WF Clyde in Reference to the film Bonnie and Clyde.
Thanks, you are absolutely correct. I don't know how I could make that mistake. Now I'll have to look up Frazier's nickname.

Sorry. I was messing with Slim. You're not wrong.

We don't know for sure if we will have Gay beyond this upcoming season, so maybe it's not a moot point

We don't know if we'll have Williams past this season so that's a moot point as well
Just guessing as I think Gay is pleased with the direction of the Kings, I think he'll be around with a nice long and saner contract. Williams is not safe so he better figure out how to play the game at this level.

Well Rudy actually has already thrown if not a shot, you would call it a hint across the bow a few days ago. When talking about why he reupped, and possible extensions, he made a point of reiterating that he wanted to see which direction we were going before doing anything. he also made a point of saying if he had opted out, he was going to play the entire field, which probably would have left us screwed. So we'll see. There is a ton of pent up semi-invisible pressure on this front office now. They HAVE to get something real done between now and October or they are running a huge risk of disenchanting their best players. Gay HAS to want to resign. Cousins HAS to receive some honors. We HAVE to still be talking playoffs by the break. And all of that stuff means that somehow, someway, we HAVE to make some moves of significance in the next 2 months.

Gay also mentioned something about setting down roots, so it's likely if the Kings show the right kind of progress that he'll be more interested in being a part of it.

It kind of pisses me off that they will play REALLY well one day and then then the next day they go back to ISO play. All it shows me is that they CAN do it and they CAN WIN when they do it, but that for some reason they don't want to do it consistently.

Malone needs a rule that there needs to be at the minimum two pass attempts on all offensive plays unless it's transition for an easy bucket or something.
I agree about the two-pass rule, but this team is obviously hurting in the talent department. When they play against the worst in the summer league they look better than playing against the better teams; just what you'd expect. If they played against the Cleveland summer league team, they get blown out 8 times out of 10 just because of the talent differential.

I didn't think Gay would re-up for this year; I was wrong. I'm doubling down: he doesn't re-sign this coming year. Why? This coming year will prove to Rudy Gay that a Kings visit to the playoffs isn't imminent. By the time of the break, with the current lineup, I think it's much more likely that we're talking about tanking than about playoffs. We'll see if I'm two for two...:)

PS I just don't see the ammo or the cap flexibility to do anything substantial to the roster over the next two months.

You mean signing Sim Bullar to play next to Cuz ain't gonna do it?

Seriously , The only chance I see that would work in the next 2 months?

A. Detroit gets so desparate to keep Monroe (Hasn't he said he wont sign unless they get rid of Josh?) that they trade Josh for Landry,Reggie Evans,Jason Terry

B Gay likes having the uprade to his friend Josh, signs a reasonable Extension extension for 2015,2016

c Our new Big three gets us to playoffs this year

D Rhondo likes our new team, wants to chase a ring with Josh,Gay (his buddies) and of course CUZ, so signs for MLE for 2015,2016

E in 2017 new lower contracts for Rudy, Josh to get Rhondo more bucks

F Our new Big four Dynasty!!!!!

It is Summer league:) The young Kings can only play the teams on their schedule and they are 2 and 1 so they have earned a "bye". Players get better, teams gel and the coaches learn who can do what and then put them in position to succeed.

I find it hard to get all doom and gloom considering Maloofs and those Seattle moguls almost moving the team. Every move these new guys make is not going to work out. But some of them have. If they can pull a gem out of Summer league (not necessarily a player on the Kings SL squad) who can be in the rotation and add one more veteran good player (Think Scot Pollard) they will be alright. Not world beaters but alright.

So far I am liking what Stauskas brings. Put him in a backcourt with Collison and you have two willing playmakers plus Cousins. I am less worried about ball movement already. Gay is not a great passer, but put him in a system that moves the ball and he will be fine.

Josh Smith could be a great missing piece or he could blow up the entire operation. I don't think the Kings make the playoffs as currently constructed. Might as well roll the die.

The Maloofs and the arena is all water under the bridge and has nothing to do with this current team and where they are at. The fact that it is summer league can mean that there is time to remedy the problem. It can also mean that the talent level of this team just ain't that good. I don't think that if they find a 10th man for their current roster it will make any difference.

PDA should talk to Cleveland about the deal they did with the Devil to get all those #1 draft picks and have LBJ come back. The Kings need some of that!

I agree with Smith, imo we have to take a massive risk with either Smith or Sanders as that PF, we have nice pieces in Styleskas, Gay, Cousins we just need a shot blocker and someone who can clean up around the rim.

We have to take a risk or otherwise it's another sub 35 win season, I rather "swing for the fences" with Larry/JSmith, that one shot blocker really makes A WORLD of difference, it's just such a important piece to have I don't think it can be understated.

What we are doing now with the current roster is maximum if both Gay and Cousins go off and have elite seasons a 40 win team. Just take a massive risk I really think we are in a positon where we sort of have to.

I don't know about getting an elite, talented point guard for the MLE, but if Rhondo is friends with Gay and Smith, I could see him coming for the MLE. Of course, Brick and others probably think the full MLE is too much for a guy like Rhondo, and I agree - what has he really done in the league to justify a full MLE? I just feel like he is such an unknown quantity, and there is no way of knowing if he has the talent to beat out Collison and mesh with Cuz.

In a lot of ways, Rhondo is no different than Sim Bhullar.

Are you talking about Rajon Rondo?
