[Game] Kings v. Thunder - 4/20/12

Some people around here think that we have to start Thornton, under any circumstances, because we have to have our best shooters/offensive players in the starting lineup. Then, I see a player like James Harden, and want to shoot myself in the head.

I'll go so far as to say that, even if we trade Evans, or let him walk in free agency, we should still bring Thornton in off the bench.
Harden and Thornton aren't even close to being the same player. Harden is a fantastic ball-handler/ passer and unselfish and is willing to fit with star players. Thornton is a fantastic scorer, but he doesn't bring near the same level of game as Harden

Did you just step over to the dark side?

What was the defining moment, or thing said if I may ask?
The spark came when Oscar pointed out that Evans isn't being utilized properly. It's one thing to talk about that but it's another to hear one of the greatest to ever play the game come right out and say it. The flames smoldered and then ignited with the incredibly stupid substitution of Evans with mere seconds left in the quarter. The blaze grew to inferno proportions when I kept watching for some sign of organized plays being run and didn't see any. The final nail in his coffin might easily have been when I realized he had taken Cuz off the floor when Ibaka went out. WTF?????

But he is similar to J Terry and J Crawford.

And while I'm at it, we don't have a "second unit." We have a bunch of guys who wear the same uniform, who come onto the court and run around a lot and jack up random shots like the old fountains in front of the Alhambra Theatre.

And yes, you guys are right. It does feel good.

Bwahahahahaha!

I feel your pain. You're not alone.

Smart must really like this draft. Not just Davis. He must have a couple of other guys in mind as well. He definitely didn't want to win this game.

So what? Who says that Sixth Men have to be the same "type" of player. Harden and Thornton aren't even close to being the same player, as you said. Okay, neither are Harden and Lamar Odom. Neither are Harden and Thaddeus Young, Neither are Harden and Taj Gibson. Or Mo Williams. Or Tyler Hansbrough. Or Louis Williams. Or Jamal Crawford. Are you willing to draw any comparisons between Marcus Thornton and Louis Williams? You don't think that could work out?

Why isn't Reke leading us to a comeback?!?!?

...

Ohhh he's on the floor with Chuck and Jimmer instead of DMC and IT...

^^
Example 1,289 of why Keith Smart shouldn't be a Head Coach in the NBA.

That's not what you said bud. You drew a comparison between Harden and Thornton. I said that is not an accurate comparison. He is very much like a Terry or Crawford. The problem is that those guys are successful when they get to be the #2 option off the bench and can just come in and put up shots. We're finding out that Thornton does not fit with the current Kings roster

It's just not fair for Reke, for IT, or any other key player to be sat for so long, and then put back in with 30 secs remaining, ice cold. Not putting the guys in a position to succeed.

Big O looks like he's thinking "what did I just witness?".

Did I miss a certain point in the season where MT was coming off the bench?

Seems our Coach is more concerned with making MT "the guy," instead of making him a 6th man.

I agree. I actually think that with a proper coach we could be quite successful with IT/Tyreke/DMC together and Thornton off the bench. The main thing is that the coach needs to figure out a system where the 3 of them play off each other, none of them should ever be frozen out of the offense for long periods of time.

Well that was fun! I'm glad Kingster enjoyed the game. Ditto VF21. Now I remember why I don't tune in to these little chats while the game is going on.
