[Game] Kings v. Spurs - 4/18/12

lol...for a game thread this certainly seems to be derailing into an "anything but a game thread" thread.

Good to see the turnout to support the team. Up to the 9 point difference, it was a pretty close game, a little sloppy (rare for the spurs) on both ends. draft consequences aside, Any bets on if we come back to win this one?

None of your posts have been deleted, they've just been moved. That discussion belongs in the thread it started in. This is the Spurs Game Thread. Stay on topic.

Feel kinda bad for reke right now. I know he hasn't really improved this year, but he hasn't been the same since moving to sf. If I were him, I probably move somewhere since it feels like he's not in the Kings rebuilding process anymore.

problem is, by putting him there and setting him up for failure - or just NOT success - you are killing his trade value. a 20/5/5 rookie of the year is worth a lot more than a dude playing off position shooting -14% on the season. It's been suggested on this site before that they are sabotaging him in a way and will be able to sign him for cheaper than what he probably would have been worth otherwise.

Watching this on a bit of delay but just saw Thornton go out. Can't hurt our draft prospects if he's not there eh?

Can't run the point full time, can't score in bunches, can't shoot, too small to play SF full time. He's going to encounter the same types of issues everywhere he goes unless he makes some kind of improvement in his jump shot. If not, the only place for him to be on a successful team is as a change of pace slasher off the bench or a defensive guard, and he hasn't shown enough mental awareness to be a full time defensive guard yet. Both of those = roleplayer.

He just looks neutered, especially tonight.

Well the coach was actually teaching him then ever since it stopped. He's basically just out there covering SF. I bet a better coach would be make a great. i dont know, that's just me

pretty lame job by the refs right now

The and 1 contact the Spurs are getting called is happening to Reke, TWil and IT about every drive they make. Some consistency please.

Holy molly. 39 3rd quarter pts for SA! Disgusting.

Maybe if I throw a penny in a fountain and make a wish, we'll play defense.

lol...consistency from NBA refs? surely you jest...Tied for most wins after trailing in the 3rd though...definitely not over.

So we've got a four-guard lineup with Chuck at center?

Hmm. If it's got a turret and moves slowly on tracks...

This is certainly plausible. It seems equally plausible that Evans will be fine if he can get a full season of playing the same role, in the same position, and having the same expectations every night. For the last two-plus years, these have all changed, for Evans, on a night-to-night basis, on the whim of the head coach.

Now, to be fair, he can work on his jump shot, even without knowing what his role is, and I'm not prepared to say that he isn't. I don't really agree with the assessment that he can't score in bunches, as it seems as though it's something he is particularly good at; he doesn't score on a lot of jump shots, so he's not going to suddenly get hot from outside, but that's not really the same thing as not being able to score in bunches. He is too small to play SF, but is, IMO, everybody else in the league under 6'8". He shouldn't be a full-time forward, he should be a full-time guard. Which guard position? I don't care, one of them. Of larger concern, to me, is the coaching staff's reticence to want to give anyone a consistent assigned role. You can't expect someone to develop when he might have to be a PG tonight, and a SF tomorrow. Makes it difficult to get a foothold, I should think.

Granted, I've never played athletics above the high school level, but I think that, in general, it's hard to have all of the answers, when the people in charge keep changing the questions.

All right. I would say it was time for Hassan WhiteFlag, but he's hurt. But I'm sure Tankler Honeycutt would enjoy learning to guard a center.
