Everybody knows that NBA is a double-standard, hypocritical league. Always has been, always will be.
The NBA's poster child team, the Lakers, are barely clinging to playoff life and were in desperate need of a win so they didn't lose ground to the Utah Jazz, who won tonight. Up by three with under :24 to go, no way DeMarcus gets that call. However, if roles were reversed and the Lakers had been down by three and Kobe pulls that same exact move, you absolutely KNOW he would have been going to the line with a chance to tie.
That's where the double standard and hypocrisy comes into play. But the letter of the law, that wasn't a foul. Howard pretty much went straight up and Cousins leaned into him. Cousins initiated the contact. However, depending upon the player, the team, and the situation, they will call that a foul. Bryant, the Lakers, and then fact that they need the win to make the playoffs pretty much dictates that the call not be made for Cousins and the Kings. But as I already stated, same game, same post season implications but the Lakers are down 3 and Kobe does what DeMarcus did and he shoots 3 free throws.
It's a sad reality, but one we old school Kings fans are accustomed to seeing. Remember Kobe's forearm to Mike Bibby's face in Game 6? Remember how often Shaq dislodged our post defenders and was rarely, if ever, called for it? Same logic outlined above applies. The players and team involved, combined with the circumstances dictated that we didn't get those calls.
BTW, I thought the call Kobe got the possession before -- when Salmons barely grazed his elbow before he elevated for the shot and they waited til WAY after he missed the shot to call the foul -- was more egregious than the no call on Howard. Tyreke gets hammered by 3 defenders, but no call yet Kobe gets that call? Gimme a break. But it's par for the course when you play the NBA's favorite son. They can't ever be cellar dwellers. The League simply won't allow it.
