Jason Jones just tweeted that basically he knows nothing about this.
i think that confirms we are trying to move him.
Give me a second rounder for him and I'm happy. A late first rounder would be ideal but unrealistic.
Hickson is not that bad. A mid to late first rounder in this draft would be a fair trade.
Why do we want to trade the young player with potential for the old washed up veteran?
It is a no brainer that Hickson is being shopped. It would be a horrible waste to have traded both Casspi and a pick for a one year rental of a guy who doesn't even contribute for the year he is here. Basically leading up to the deadline Hickson should be up for auction, and not just any auction, a one cent starting price no reserve type auction. Best offer gets him.
Hopefully some other team will write off the first half of this season as what it should be realized as, a horrible fit for Hickson on a team with no direction, stuck behind Thompson, who has played very well all year and played his way into the starting lineup, and Hayes, who is supposed to bring a vet presence to this team (not that he has outplayed Hickson, but the organization sees more of a future for Hayes, plus his contract is already locked up).
Considering Hickson could only bring back a prospect and a heavily protected first after the great second half of last season, I wouldn't expect much in return. Best bet would be to send him to a team looking for frontcourt youth and wanting to shed salary.
The one trade that I think could go down:
Hickson for Channing Frye
Pretty much the only thing that Hickson has proven that he is really good at since he has been in the league has been catching passes from a playmaker (Lebron) and finishing them. Just so happens that the Suns have one of the best playmakers in the league, one of the cheapest owners in the league, an aging roster, and a 6-11 jumpshooter who they would be willing to move if someone was willing to take on his contract and offer a little incentive.
The Kings on the other hand have no one in the frontcourt other than Cousins who can reliably hit a jumpshot, and it is no secret that teams can just pack the paint and this team will struggle to score. Assuming that JT and Cousins are the startign frontcourt for the foreseeable future, having Frye would give the team the option of either bringing in Hayes in for defense or Frye in for floor spacing and offense. The contract isn't terrible , with only one year overlap with when Cousins needs to be resigned. So assuming JT will be resigned startign around 6-7 million a year, we will have a solid 4 man front court for this year and the next two at about 22-23 million per year, easily doable. Even if Cousins gets signed to a max extension, we will only have a total frontcourt salary in the low 30's for one year. Easily doable.
And before anyone brings up the fact that Frye is one of the softest players in the league, just keep in mind that first, that's why you may be able to get him for only Hickson, and second, Cousins, JT and Hayes should be able to take care of all the banging that needs to be done, and Frye will be able to be used just as what he is, a guy that can come off the bench, knock down some threes, and pull bigs away from the basket to give Tyreke, Cousins, and company room to operate down low, where they do their best work.
Answered my own question: 1 season after this one is over.
No, this by all accounts is his last guaranteed year. He has a qualifying offer next year and the Kings didn't extend JJ. Unlikely the Kings attempt to retain him hence trying to deal him before he leaves for nothing in the summer.

Well, we may get no living, breathing human being if we let him go but we DO get cap space. AK47 is still available and as I see we may solve what problem we have at the 4/5 position in the draft, we might very well want to overspend and get AK. I will actually trust Petrie on this issue as he has shown in the past that he can be relentless in getting a Euro. He stays in contact. It's another reason to hire Sloan but then the ownership seems to have fallen in love with Smart.
Imagine drafting a Robinson or Moultrie, getting AK47, and hiring Sloan.
And to answer another question posted elsewhere, I am not concerned about Sloan handling Cousins. Cousins wants to win and be the best. I think he would shut up and do what Sloan asks of him. There is nothing keeping us from retaining Smart as an assistant either.
Kings tried to trade Kenny Thomas too.
Unfortunately some pieces are not movable.
Marc Stein also once confirmed that Webber was not going to re-sign with the Kings and would be inking a deal with Detroit.
Just sayin'.
This is really a no brainer!
He is in the final year of the contract and has really stunk it up. He is looking like a major bust trade wise for us in a long time. There is no way he will be back next year unless we give him a qualifying offer and no one else overbids on him which is quite realistic.
The positive thing is that he is still young and in the right team, he is a good young piece. He is a terrible fit on this team and has been since day one but say on a team like Wizards, he would be a nice young, athletic big to run with John Wall.
The problem here is that teams will be reluctant to give up something of value for him. The best we can hope for is another youngster that has fallen out of favour with their current team ala Marcus Thornton last year. That is the best we could hope for and hopefully we can pull that off otherwise that trade for Hickson is not looking any better with each passing day.
