I didn't think we'd be this terrible on defense once again. Rondo and WCS have been non factors. If that continues it's hard to envision us turning this around.

A full training camp for Karl. Another year of growth from DMC. A hugely upgraded bench. A great looking rookie defende/rim protector.

It never even occurred to me that this could be another 29-30 win season.

It's priorities, it's the system. Preseason was spent focusing on teaching and implementing a spread offense with little apparent focus on the halfcourt or defense. We heard about 15 sec shot clocks in practice and pace. We heard about how sexy it is to put Rudy at the 4. Meanwhile, a few sat back scratching their heads saying our top two players don't fit that system, and that up and down system isn't going to yield good defense.

And here we are, poor defense, small ball and a terrible halfcourt offense. Our sets are pretty poor. It's all a product of what the priorities have been. When defense isn't the focus in the film room and in morning shootaround, this is what you get. Defense is game planning as much as it is effort. When transition, quick attacking basketball is the priority instead of sound halfcourt sets, this is what you get. Forget Cuz, how many good looks is Rudy getting? How many cuts leading to backdoors or fades off screens for open jumpers are we getting?

What we're seeing, acknowledging it's still very early, is Karl is forcing these players into his system rather than tailoring his system around his players.
