Someone should tell PDA that one of things that made helped Landry in GS was playing next to a defensive beast in Bogut. One, we don't have a Bogut type and two, even if we did we have Cuz eating up most of the mins at center. For Landry to be at his best he needs a defensive center next to him.
And now, how we solve our defensive issues on our frontline? Get a defensive center, he's stuck playing 10 mins per behind Cuz. Get a defensive PF to pair with Cuz, then we just paid the PF's backup(and that PF should get big mins if he's a good defender who pairs well with our cornerstone) about 6M per year. That's another issue, as soon as we go about improving and as soon as we get a defensive PF next to Cuz, Landry's contract becomes even worse. he becomes the guy who's getting 6M per for about 15 mins a night. That is pretty much the same scenario we're facing in our backcourt with MT behind MLM.
The move makes no sense. And for those saying it's early and we'll improve, well when we get some defenders and do improve, that contract looks worse as that cuts into Landry's role. And if Lee was healthy in the playoffs, Landry's minutes would have been much less behind Bogut/Lee and actually Jackson went with his defensive bigs over Landry in a few of the playoff games. Landry is a guy who can help you in spurts, in certain situations, yet that doesn't equal his price tag nor does what he brings help fix any of our issues.

This is one of the things I want to keep an eye on. We seemed to have a good trade relationship with HOU under Petrie, wonder if it continues.

Can you even read if it does not fit your narrative?

I'd like to see the GM stupid enough to trade a defensive big for the likes of Patterson, JT, or Landry. You want a defensive center then you better be prepared to pay out the nose or draft and develop one. Most teams realize their value, which is worlds away from the collection of third bigs we are stuck with. Last time we manage to trade Landry we got Thorton, who at the time was getting spot minutes on a lottery team.

Doesn't fit with who? Cousins? He and a couple others are the only players guaranteed to be on this team in the fall. Not to mention the makeup will probably be different than it was a few years ago. "You're living in the past mannnnnnnn" - Jon Favreau as Eric the Clown.

Dave is interacting with people here on KF. I, for one, am glad to see it. Lively discourse on both sides is never a problem. Brick is a strong personality; Dave is a strong personality. I like reading their exchanges. Not for the faint of heart, though.

That's the thing there though -- it was Petrie, a GM of 20 years. Our whole front office is gone, so other than he name that appears on caller ID I'm not sure what relationship there would be when we call them up.
Nonetheless, that would be the play to make this make some kind of sense. Landry in, JT or PPat out, or even both, to get Asik.

Yeah, it's obvious the team is being gutted. It's the reason that Calderon passed, Iguodala waivered and Tyreke was too expensive at 11 mil. I'm guessing there is a 3 year plan to get the team turned around and the win/loss record for year one is unimportant. That 2016 arena opening is the target date. I'm going to have to take a deep breath and be patient. I'll make sure to watch a lot more college ball this upcoming year so I can see who we may be targeting in the draft.

Not if he doesn't behave. If it's more of the same, he's gone in February. Landry was a top 7-8 player on a good Warriors team. He's tight with the new coach that needs guys to buy in. This isn't the end of the world

Yes, precisely. That is the problem. Well other than our new non-Petrie fton office handing out a classic Petrie longterm midlevel contract to a mediocrity. We're clogged with them, now we got another. You can see how eager Carl's former teams have been to load him up with cash like this.
But anyway, back to the problem: Carl failed here. Next to these EXACT same guys. Next to the same guy/one player that we DO know is going to be here next year. this perhaps is where losing all our institutional memory hurts. We did this already. Any Kings fan could have told PDA that. Carl doesn't work next to Cousins because he needs shots, and provides neither rebounding nor defensive support, which are precisely the areas of support we need next to Cousins. He's a terrible fit, as we found out.
Now we waited for the FA signing post Reke trade to justify it. If this is it, its not been justified. Now we can play the same game and wait for the PPat/JT trade to justify this move. If it doesn't bring back somebody the complete opposite of Landry...

You're expecting some trades so my assumption that Landry doesn't fit is premature, that's what you're getting at I assume. Here's my problem with that line of thinking, the Kings don't have quality assets to trade. Unless you are willing to sacrifice future picks Thorton isn't getting you a starting SF. This cluster **** at PF is not going to translate into the big we need. You do have IT as a quality throw in, but he's not proven and on the last year of his contract. Where's this influx of talent going to come from? I just don't see how anything we've done this summer gets us closer to filling the hole at SF or the hole next to Cousins.
No matter the culture or the coach we are likely headed into next season with a disaster on the defensive end. Just like last year, and the year before... you get where I'm going here.
