Thanks, SLAB. At least the kids got the fun of Fandemonium before they got the boot...

Expected, but I kind of with Anwar could have stuck around to get some garbage time in a few preseason games though.

Maybe the quick boot to a couple bigs mean they like what they see in big Luke Slesinger (I know, I butchered that horribly) to be our last big man...Maybe?

I was thinking the same thing - got rid of some "chaff" so they could keep working with the bigs they really like, or maybe they had seen what these guys offered and still haven't spent enough time with Luke? Either way, hope at least Luke hangs around, even if it is only on the D league....

SLAB - Doesn't Ronnie Price have a one-year contract?

EDIT: From an earlier Training Camp thread -

new additions Jason Hart (fifth season) and rookie Ronnie Price have contracts that extend beyond this season. Hart is set to make $1.54 million this season, with a player option for $1.68 million in 2006-07, while Price was signed at the league minimum for two seasons.

:D

Still 12 on the active roster, but the new agreement with the Players' Union is that you must carry 14 contracts (some of whom can be on the IL or in the NBDL). Its not 100% clear, but Price and Sampson may already have contracts #13/#14, although presumably small enough that we could afford to just waive them if somebody else really impressed. 12th active roster spot would seem to come down to a 5th big man, or a 3rd PG. Given our lack of size/shotblocking, 5th big seems to make more sense, although I've noted before size/shotblocking pinned to the pine doesn't mean much (see Ostertag, Greg).

I always leaned towards Price being signed to a guaranteed deal. I think Price is gonna be a very nice player. Sampson might be too. I mean, Kings.com has had them listed on the roster page.

Would of liked to see Anwar, but oh well.

Price has got that really steep tweener thing to overcome though. There isn't much middle ground for 6'2" OGs -- either they are so revolutionary they become stars (quite rare) or they are capped off at about Eddie House label. Just too small to get PT if they are just solid though. Very few 10ppg 6'2" tweeners. Kind of 20+pts or bust (and Bobby of course was about an 18-20pt scorer just limited by minutes).

So upshot of that is that he's really going to have develop those PG skills to be anyone, and that is often horribly unnatural for guys who could score at will at lower levels. Flores is facing the same problem. Useful as a 5th guard maybe that can play a little of both. But hard to move up into the rotation unless PGesque ballhandling and passing really picks up.

We cannot simply waive Price...

Price was signed at the league minimum for two seasons.

SLAB should correct his listings. Price is a contracted player, not a training camp hopeful.

But were both of those years guaranteed? That would be the issue.

And actualy we could still waive him, we'd just have to pay him. We could waive Mike Bibby too although seems fairly unlikely. ;)

Guaranteed as much as any two year contract, from what I understand... it isn't one plus option, if that's what you mean.

VF is right.

I remember reading Price showing nice passing skills in the VSL (I don't remember seeing him much in the two games NBATV aired), and Petrie really liking what he saw overall. I know he wanted to draft him too.

A couple of player gone that we did not expect to see on the team. Hey, at least Langhi won the 3 pt contest at Fandemonium. At any rate, good luck to them both.

I was hoping that Anwar Fargusson(sp??) would stick around. I suppose we have better guys. Thats good news.

Well the guy had no offensive skill whatsoever, and he barely weighs more then Kevin Martin, he just wouldn't last in the NBA.. Maybe 30 or 40 pounds heavier and we have a prospect, but until then..

Yeah, I would have liked to see Anwar get some games in. He was by far the best shotblocker of the bunch. When he was invited back I thought for sure he must have been up to 230-240. That wasn't the case and it has to be a big factor as to why he was cut. I am starting to wonder if big Luke might be a King this year.

Tough break for Fergison... hope this means some of the other big men are showing something out there... can't wait to see them tommorow!

Sampson's a good shotblocker too, and the more proven guy I guess if you are going to opt for the lanky shotblocker approach. Jones was a shotblocking beast too, but of course never got a shot. So Sampson or Luke. Or maybe if we aren't entirely tapped out, Sampson AND Luke with Luke down in the NBDL if he shows something other than height.

Did we pick up Langey (or somebody else???) off waivers? Do we have to pay him/them anything since we cut him/them? Could've sworn the waivers were used somewhere....

Yeah I look forward to seeing Sampson get some major mins. this preseason. Sampson is also a nice rebounder and has an NBA body, so no doubt Anwar < Sampson.

Oh yeah, agreed. I see Sampson making it, and Luke maybe in some form.
