Kings' rebounding

I'd like to illustrate a point on the Kings rebounding based on last night's game. Overall, I loved the game, the guys looked into it, I was happy. Afterwards though, I found the following:

Total rebounds:

Orlando: 42
SAc: 40

At first glance this doesn't look that bad, but if you delve deeper into the numbers, you'll notice that:

FG %:
Orlando: 45.6%
Sac: 47%

This means there were more defensive rebounding attempts for the kings as opposed to the magic. The following stat is probably most telling however:

Offensive boards:
Orlando: 16
Sac: 7

In my opinion, this stat probably gives the best indicator as to how you're rebounding. So even though the overall board war was won by just 2, since the magic outrebounded the kings on the offensive boards by 9, we essentially got clobbered on the boards, in my opinion.

Well, we mostly got clobbered by one man. There hasn't been anybody in a Kings uniform that can contend with a beast like Howard on the glass in three years at least.

Think things could have gotten really ugly if Brian Hill had used the rest of his bigs to just smash our sad excuse for a frontline. But instead he opted to go smallball with Hedo and Garrity at the 4 spot for long stretches. Kind of turned the magic into a one-man team reboundingwise, and of course they were already missing one of the best rebounding PGs in the game.

Another amazing stat is that the Magic took 90 shots while the Kings only took 65. The only thing keeping the Kings in these games is their free throw shooting. They get to the line pretty often and are shooting .796% when they get there which is good enough for 2nd in the league.

A direct reflection on Miller's defensive weaknesses and average-at-best rebounding. He's a pretty darned good fit in the Princeton O, but an awful 1:1 defender. I for one am tired of seeing him getting beat inside by the likes of those you list.

We actually didn't do to bad in the game I don't think. If we get smashed by the Suns tonight I will be a little disappointed because they are not all that good on the boards either.
