That actually seems like a quite reasonable contract to me. It gives belly a 2-year deal like he wanted but if hr does not fit for the Kings, they only guarantee roughly 9 million total dollars of the salary over the two years. Belly get some security and the Kings keep some flexibility. Good job Vlade Divac, let's get this done
 
Bjelica provides as another floor spacer, but at this point....if he were to sign, there is just too much of a glut of bigs on this team and someone has got to go whether it's Z-Bo, Koufos, Skal or Willie
 
For those of you complaining about his age, you know that 30 is still considered to be in your prime right? He's not on his death bed and you know it's nice having a veteran or two to help the coach and youngsters out. It's not a long term contract so we don't have anything to worry about.

The people with the age issue would literally say no to LeBron James because he's 33... Come on. He'll be fine at 30.

I agree and I'm going to look forward to seeing what happens. With all of these bigs Z-bo better not see a second of floor time unless it's garbage time.

Well we got this guy named Giles, he can also rebound and play defense, but he does things better than capela like pass and make free throws.
Don't worry you'll soon see Giles is gonna be really good.
Right now we have seven bigs and maybe soon eight. We need a Sf and a Pg before we need another big.

Bigs: Giles, Bagley, Kosta, Bjelly, Skal, Davis, Zbo, and Willie.

This is perfect, sounds like it gets us to the salary floor this season and maintains full flexibility moving forward. I thought we might have to do a 3 year declining deal to do this.
 
Don't let mistakes of the past influence current decisions. Just because Zbo and KK are still on the books we shouldnt stop looking for guys that fit really well. Bjelica is a great guy to target. This team needs a stretch 4 so badly. He will unlock Fox and the play of everyone else.
Seems like Bjelica is the final move and then they're going to wait until the deadline to make further moves.

Exactly. 28-32 years of age is prime time in the NBA.

I recall that ages 27-30 used to be considered a player's prime, but more recent studies have indicated it may be sooner, starting closer to 25 even.

Players have a u-shaped curve in the NBA. The get better as they reach their 25th birthday. The peak around 25-26. After that they slowly decline as they approach 30 and after 32 they rapidly decline.

If the Kings still had George Karl as their coach then Capela is an ideal big. Rim protector, rebounder, and a guy who lives off put backs, lobs and dump offs on offense. But I don't see the fit at all with Joerger. I mean, maybe Capela has some high post passing in his bag of tricks that we haven't yet seen but in general Joerger asks for different things from his bigs.

I'm a big Capela fan, but he's a great fit with the Rockets and a poor fit with the current Kings, both because of difference in the offensive philosophies and because of the glut of young bigs that the Kings already have.

Technically the Kings could still do a sign-and-trade with Houston where Capela gets a 4 year $82 million deal and the Rockets get WCS which saves them from going into the luxury tax, at least this season. If that were to happen I think Capela would still likely put up better stats but if he's in Sacramento and Willie is in Houston I think people would be surprised at how much closer their numbers would end up being, assuming that Cauley-Stein buys in to what D'Antoni wants from his big.

No. It's 28-32. Trust me on this. And it's not just "physical" attributes we're talking about in reference to "prime time", it's an aggregate of the physical and mental (skill) aspects of the game. There is a point where the physical attributes might be trending downward but the skills attributes more than make up for it, and then at some point the skills don't make up for the declining physical attributes and you have overall decline. No doubt there are variations due to injuries, games played, genetic outliers, etc., but as a general rule 28-32 is prime time.
 
I'll concede it was 25 years ago, and it was Bill Walton, but Bill Walton told me at UC Davis basketball camp that 27 is peak. I do understand that players can play longer, but since they are also beginning their pro careers earlier, 27 is often the 7th pro year and that takes it's toll.

Still I think the goal is generally for teams to make sure they don't sign a long term big money deal that goes past 33.

Any team that needs cap relief and is paying a high luxury tax bill. There's plenty of those, and by the trade deadline, they will have a better idea of where their teams are at competitive wise. A team like Houston, for example, could really use bench depth with as much salary as they are paying, and might be willing to package multiple picks to get Ryan's multi-year deal off their books and use KK and Zach as playoff run depth guys and re-tool their bench next off-season when their come off the books too. The Wizards may not want to pay that much money next season if their team isn't very good to start the season, and don't be surprised if they look to move Porter or Beal.

Growing up, I always heard it was 27 - 33.

So every single player needs to be 19 in a season where we want to win more games? I don’t get it. We have quite a few developing players already and just added Bagley and Giles to the list. I’m pretty sure we’re at capacity in that regard.

The developmental seasons and message of “don’t look at the win column to judge this team” are over starting now.
