Kings @ Raptors Game Thread

Good grief...

Our bench? What bleeping bench? Hart couldn't play. KT started. Martin started. Corliss didn't play. Skinner didn't play and I think he's got an ankle problem. Bonzi didn't play. SAR couldn't play extended minutes as he's clearly suffering from losing weight, no stamina, etc.

There were some bad plays but for the most part what I saw tonight gave me HOPE for the first time in a very long time. Artest will truly be a force to be reckoned with when he actually gets a few team practices under his belt and gets back into full game condition.

I have to agree with Celt. I'm a lot more optimistic about the team that's coming back to Sacramento tonight than I was about the team that left...

Give it a little time, folks.

Of course our starters played HUGE minutes tonight. Not exactly the best thing when you play 6 games in 8 days.
i hope it'll be better when bonzi gets back, one more guy into rotation

this means kings need a clear offensive system ASAP. kings can't depend on bibby every night. eventually he'll be tired
If we change the off system, i really doubt that bibby will be that effective.

I agree that there's some glimmers of hope, but until the usual suspects start playing defense it's always going to be a struggle. They're going to have to realize that Artest can't guard 5 guys.

Although, wow, I still can't believe Artest is on the Kings. So exciting!!

he is exciting to watch & it looks like he will be a great crunch time player. I loved what I saw from him in the 4th quarter...

there is hope with the current players we have but we have to start winning games SOON if we want to be back in the playoff hunt. it's never good to lose to the raptors. later, we'll be looking back at these games saying we should've won them. :(

i just hope we turn it around soon.

go kings !

Unfortunately time is something we may not have... As good as Artest seems to be, when he was on the Best Damn Sports Show Period he probably said winning is most important like 10 times... We never know when he may flip his lid. Bonzi could be gone at the end of the season and Bibby can opt out in 2007. Time is a luxury that we don't have...

I sure hope Ron can begin to change the defensive mentality of this team. I am convinced the coaches are unable, unwilling or don't know how to do it.

Really, REALLY want to see Bonzi and Ron out there together. The kind of effort I expect from those two has GOT to be contagious.

The return of the man himself! And no, you didn't miss much, although Artest is pretty good, not sure if you've heard.

Everybody knows that he is a good player. Nobody ever questioned that.

He just can't solve our problems.

Hell, M.J. couldnt solve our problems.

At this point - a play off would be a miracle

i didnt imply that we change the system. i simply meant that ron has to gel with the team's system

Martin looked better in the second half for sure. First half was not so good.

Edit: Overall I wasn't impressed with his game and cannot wait until Bonzi is back.

wow they just interviewed ron
Ron said raptors is not the best team in the league and kings are more dominant. and HE personally guaranteed we are going to the playoffs after bonzi gets back.
he looked frustrated but he still has lots of hope

Are you serious?

Martin may not have been perfect, but he was hustling, he was working hard. He took a couple of really hard fouls and he didn't run and hide.

What's the problem?

Dare I say it... Ron ARTEST might become the vocal leader of this team? After all this dissapointment in this game I will say one thing. Nothing excited me more than to see when Bibby hit those threes in the THIRD quarter Artest was on the sideline cheering and screaming and showing some damn passion. I can't go back and find the post but I swear on my life this is the first time I've seen a player on the Kings do that when it wasn't a huge huge shot...

I REALLY hope that we are not pinning our hopes for the play offs on Ron. There is NO one player that is going to "cure what ails us." It is going to take personal commitments by each individual player. Don't give up after this raod trip. We went 1-5 (better than 0-6 at least!).

It stinks, but we played better tonight than many teams would have given all that happened on this trip. Let's give it a week.

I am not going to be concerned about the play offs at this point. If we make them, great, if not - oh well. We will next season.

I am more concerned with how we finish the season, resign players that need to be resigned and work out a better game plan for next season.

I plan on enjoying the good and taking the bad as it comes.

GO KINGS!

There isn't one, it's just IMO he didn't look bad, but he didn't look too good either. It was an okay performance from him, I loved his rebounding but his shooting wasn't very good(although I think he went to the FT line a couple times right?). So just hearing someone say it was a good performance kinda made me confused, not really good, not bad, inbetween IMO.

I was thinking that too. Did you see them coming on the court before Artest tied it up in regulation? Artest had has arm around Bibby & was talking to him, obviously about the play... it does seem like he has leadership qualities. Like most leaders, I think Ron really WANTS to win.

But, wow, it's nice to have someone on our team whose not just looking at things one game at a time. It reminds me how Webb used to say "nothing but a championship will do"... even if he can't necessarily MAKE it happen, just knowing how badly he wants it & knowing how hard he'll try makes me happy.

WOW

I hope this guarantee will be fulfilled.

I hope he doesn't kill our fans when we don't make the playoffs. For good sakes we can't even beat the raptors.

yeah same here
Ron emphasized that statement by repeating it twice

double wow

definitely gives me hope! i know the record is still really really bad but at least they believe. that's the first step. if you don't believe in yourselves, no one else will.

once they start to gel (hopefully soon !) they could be really good and they can turn things around. I just hope it's not too late.

even IF it's too late, i still want to see the kings have some awesome run before the end

I mentioned this in the PBP thread. He was cheering from the bench AND he was cheering from the scorer's table as he was waiting to come into the game... Sure looked good, and it's the type of thing that will wear off. And it's how the Kings used to be...

--------------------------------------------------------

On some of the other stuff, I can't believe what I'm reading.

:(

Here it is, two games into the Artest era and already people are bagging on other players as they compare them to Ron?

Geez.

Why not look forward to a different, more exciting, more involved team? Why not celebrate that we're going to have Bonzi back shortly and SAR will get his jaw unwired and be able to eat, breathe and regain some strength?

Kings fans (the genre not the website) never used to be about ALWAYS finding a reason to complain. It's really disheartening to me to see that this is what the fanbase is reduced to...

We have hope for the first time in quite a while. Instead of shooting it down before it can even clear the horizon, why not show a little bit of faith and see what happens? We can always go back to dumping on everyone in February...or March.
