1. I think you may underestimate how quickly a 6'10" power forward can cover eighteen feet.
2. It's not as if Thompson's defender is going to be behind him. If Thompson is eighteen feet away, his defender is probably going to be fifteen feet away, which is barely a stride away from a double-team.
   • The only way for Thompson to effectively pull his man away from the paint is to be out by the three point line. And, since he can't actually hit threes, the only way that would actually work is if he were setting high screens for his teammates... Which would require the other three guys on the court to move without the ball, which they seem disinclined to do.
