Kings predraft workouts

I'm somewhat surprised that the Kings haven't looked at any players yet. I know there are several team workouts scheduled and I don't see the Kings name as being in attendance. Especially the one the Warriors are hosting. Its still early, so it can change. Maybe were just going to draft european players.

I am going to have a knicks fan, pacers fan and 2 other kings fans..
I need more kings fans.

I think the kings really like the bay area group workouts. That's where they scouted JT.

I'd have to look it up and don't have time right now, but I know the Kings are slated to attend quite a few multi-team workouts.

Edit: This was posted on the Kings website on May 7, 2009 among other dates:

Kings First Pre-Draft Workout on Thursday
The Kings scouting staff will host the first of many pre-Draft workouts at the team’s practice facility on Thursday, May 21. While it is unknown yet who will make up the full roster of participants for the workout, the featured invitee will be UCLA freshman point guard Jrue Holiday. Keep checking back to Full Court Press for complete coverage of the team’s prospect workouts leading up to the Draft on June 25.

Well it was a horrible day...but what's done is done and we can't do anything about it. We have the #4, #23, and #31 pick so let's just focus on that. Let's keep this thread updated on all draft workout news, etc. Should be a busy 1 month between now and June 26.

Given the spacing of our picks at #4, #23 and #31, and the fuzziness of this draft where so many gus could be picked #5 or #20, I'm thinking we should just work out every single guy who declared.

The Oakland group workout is next week June 1 and 2 which will include:

Jeff Teague, Patrick Mills, Taj Gibson, Terrance Williams, Tyler Hansbrough

Remember Petrie only watched Jason Thompson here. Kings never worked him out. Yet Petrie did see him a Rider.

did not know that -- probably when the Warriors got high on him too I wuold imagine.

I don't know if Petrie himself scouted Thompson, but I know the Kings organization had scouted him at Rider. The Warriors workout may have only been a confirmation. Being his closed mouth self, I'm not surprised that little was said about Thompson until draft day.

There were definitely articles about Petrie personally scouting him at Rider. The Kings' interest started in the Summer of 2007 when Stirling saw JT at the Big Man Camp.

Late in the draft, the Kings brought in Roy Hibbert for a second workout that sparked rumor that GP was picking Hibbert. When the center was interviewed, he was less than enthusiastic. He said there's nothing to it, the Kings just needed a big body to go against another big body.

But there was no mention who Hibbert went up against. The Kings were mum and so was Hibbert. I thought at that time that whoever Hibbert played against was probably who GP was picking. And I still had my suspicion that JT was in town that day playing against Hibbert.

Just a speculation. But JT did say that he worked out for more teams than any other prospect, I find it hard to believe that GP didn't at least bring him in. Afterfall, that's one more workout for a guy who has worked out for just about everyone?

I agree. It's interesting, talking about this draft with friends, there are very few players who are not a possibility for the Kings. There's the occasional Dejuan Blair type who I could not see us reaching for at 4 who will definitely not last till 23, but most players have such a wide range, that almost everyone is in the discussion. Makes things very interesting.

I'm hoping Petrie somehow turns pick #4 into 2 picks between 6-14 for just that reason.

That would be most pleasant.
