Kings pop up in Tyson Chandler rumors

This would be huge! It looks like Petrie is pretty sure that Dally will be gone if he's seriously going after Chandler

I like Chandler, but unless we can land Marc Gasol I'd like for Petrie to stick to one year deals for players other than our own and save our cap space for next season where the free agent class will be much better and much deeper.

We are always waiting for 'next year'..

the thing is that really we pretty much have our offensive talent now. Its hard for peeps to se because is young, but we have as much talent stacked up on this roster, on one end of the floor, as any team in the league shy of the superteams. What we need now are the right roleplayers, and then to just start gelling for the future. So waiting around for another year or another with big name star type free agents in it really isn't going to help us much. This year is actually a good free agent class for us, full of what we need now with defensive centers and small forwards all around. We need to grab those that we can afford, and then settle back and start saving our caproom for when we are going to hae to pay Evans/Cousins/etc. the real money in a few years.

I hear ya. But I don't think us throwing long term contracts at middling players is the answer for us. With that being said, we do need a defensive big, and if Chandler can stay healthy then he could be a great addition. Basically I'd just prefer that management make up its mind and decide if we wanna get competitive or if we wanna let the rebuilding process continue, rather than being stuck somewhere in the middle.

Before we go bananas concluding this and that, remember that this is a compressed free agent period and GMs have to contact everyone they even have a passing interest in. There is no luxury of dealing with one player and then methodically moving to the next. They have to contact all at once. I don't find this to be startling news and would think petrie incompetent if he didn't contact Chandler. I just don't think it means anything about any other player.

We are going to play our first league game in 20 days. A lot has to be done in a compressed period of time. Next, if we contact Gasol are we going to conclude that we have given up on Daly and Chandler? No.

It's nice to hear they're interested in him but I honestly don't see Chandler leaving Dallas. Cuban will just go way over the cap to keep him. The Kings have a better chance of stealing Marc Gasol from the Grizzlies who aren't exactly known as big spenders and who also have to resign Zach Randolph, which will use most of their cap room. I just don't see them going ten or more million over the cap to keep Gasol, assuming they resign Randolph, which I'm assuming is priority number one for them. It makes for a great opportunity for another team to swoop in and nab Gasol.

EDIT: I forgot they already extended Randolph last season. That had to put them pretty close to the cap for this year.

The Grizzlies have already stated that they'll match any offer. Kind of dumb for them to openly say that (if it's true) though

It depends. If you convince most teams that you will match, it might deter the incoming offers. Teams won't want to waste much time in this condensed signing period on waiting to see if they match.

They're about 8 mil under the cap as it stands right now. Apparently they're not bringing Battier back. They could sign Gasol for around 15 mil and be right at the luxory tax limit. They would still be with out a backup center unless they resign Haddadi, which could put them into a luxury tax situation.

One possiblity, since they seem determined to get rid of O.J. Mayo, is to trade him for a less salaried player on a team that can absorb salary. Mayo mades around 6 mil a year. They could trade him for another player making 2 or 3 mil, and then resign Haddadi or a similar backup. I'd like to reccommend Chuck Hayes..........

Are we talking about the same Grizzlies that dropped max contract on Rudy Gay and did something that most of the other teams were reluctant to do (including Dallas with Chandler) and re-sign their big name FA in Randolph?!

Truth be told, they are bigger spenders than us dues to our owners just about being on the verge of bankruptcy!

But didn't they do all that under the cap? My point was just that I don't see them exceeding the cap by a lot. You may have a point about them being bigger spenders than the Kings now days. But then again, sadly, pretty much everyone is.

That's a good point. I was thinking more along the lines that some team now will offer him the max, which would result in either them nabbing Gasol, or increasing the Grizzlies payroll so that they could possibly nab a RFA from them next year

Unfortunately, the current state of the franchise + FA's historically not being interested in signing with the Kings, the Kings are going to have to overpay to get a top tier FA. I wonder how much they'd have to overpay Chandler? 2-3 million a year over a team of his choice?

Rumors are that Dal won't offer Chandler or Barea more than a 1 yr contract, because they want to bring DWill back to his hometown next summer.

totally agree... Evans and Cousins are making nothing right now.... compared to what their gonna need to keep them here. we have a 0% chance of Tyson C. he's gonna be WAY OVERPAID! and honestly if the Mavs didn't win the title would he be that hyped? he's good when he's healthy but he's not usually healthy... he was hurt during the playoffs... Sam D is about the same as TC and would be cheaper. there are better FA options for our team out there...

Well its nice to see our name out there. I'm not willing to pay Chandler anything like the 20 mil or so that he'w rumored to want. Plus I doubt Mark Cuban will pay that much either. He's a shrewder business man that some give him credit for. However, I would be willing to go higher than I would for Dalembert. How high is hard to say until you know what the market is. I'd love to have a team option on the last year of a 4 yr contract, but I doubt he'd agree to it. He'd be a great addition, but we also have to keep the future in mind where Cousins and Evans are concerned.

Semper Fi by the way!
