I like Chandler, but unless we can land Marc Gasol I'd like for Petrie to stick to one year deals for players other than our own and save our cap space for next season where the free agent class will be much better and much deeper.

We are always waiting for 'next year'..
It's nice to hear they're interested in him but I honestly don't see Chandler leaving Dallas. Cuban will just go way over the cap to keep him. The Kings have a better chance of stealing Marc Gasol from the Grizzlies who aren't exactly known as big spenders and who also have to resign Zach Randolph, which will use most of their cap room. I just don't see them going ten or more million over the cap to keep Gasol, assuming they resign Randolph, which I'm assuming is priority number one for them. It makes for a great opportunity for another team to swoop in and nab Gasol.
EDIT: I forgot they already extended Randolph last season. That had to put them pretty close to the cap for this year.
The Grizzlies have already stated that they'll match any offer. Kind of dumb for them to openly say that (if it's true) though

Are we talking about the same Grizzlies that dropped max contract on Rudy Gay and did something that most of the other teams were reluctant to do (including Dallas with Chandler) and re-sign their big name FA in Randolph?!
Truth be told, they are bigger spenders than us dues to our owners just about being on the verge of bankruptcy!
It depends. If you convince most teams that you will match, it might deter the incoming offers. Teams won't want to waste much time in this condensed signing period on waiting to see if they match.

Comes a time...
the thing is that really we pretty much have our offensive talent now. Its hard for peeps to se because is young, but we have as much talent stacked up on this roster, on one end of the floor, as any team in the league shy of the superteams. What we need now are the right roleplayers, and then to just start gelling for the future. So waiting around for another year or another with big name star type free agents in it really isn't going to help us much. This year is actually a good free agent class for us, full of what we need now with defensive centers and small forwards all around. We need to grab those that we can afford, and then settle back and start saving our caproom for when we are going to hae to pay Evans/Cousins/etc. the real money in a few years.
