While I agree with you 100%, I see these interviews every year from prospects. It's amazing that college players don't even have a basic knowledge of every NBA team, but many of them don't. It's hard to fathom.
But it's not a reason to rule out a prospect. So many of them don't know a thing about NBA teams outside of the big market teams.

It definitely points to a lack of preparation, which means the team around him isn't doing their job, but not a disqualifier to me.
That said, while I was on board with taking a home run swing on Sharpe early on, the more I watch and read (of what little is out there) the more wary I am of the Kings drafting him.
He doesn't have a quick first step and struggled to turn the corner on HS players. He's much more of an east-west player who is looking to set up his jump shot. He has a loose handle, isn't much of a playmaker and was very lax on defense.
It's hard to criticize a young player for that last point in a setting like EYBL, but it's one of the few things we have to go on. Sharpe is a good shooter and vertically explosive, with pretty good measurables, but he's probably a ways away from being a contributor in the NBA and I'm not sure his ceiling is as high as I first believed.

Yeah. I have a kid who plays sports at a high level as a teen. Constant practice, workouts and traveling. They have no interest at watching the sport on tv when they have down time.
However, whoever is handling this kids draft should coach him up a bit.

100% my son plays baseball 5-6 days a week. He casually watch when it’s on, but he couldn’t tell you 5 players on his favorite team right now (they also kinda suck, but that’s besides the point)

That being said, oof at that interview.
I didn't say it was a deal-breaker, but it is a red flag to me. These guys all live and breathe basketball. They are basically "putting in an application" to play for one of only 30 teams in the league. This is their lifelong goal, and they all say that they watch NBA players all the time to see who to model their game after.
You can't be prepared enough for an interview to at least know the names of the top couple of NBA players on each team, when basketball is your "life"? At least maybe know that Fox and Sabonis are the two top players on the team? I don't expect anyone to know every player, but maybe the top 2-3 at a bare minimum?
It strikes me as being lax in preparation and situational awareness. You should be cognizant enough to know that all of these interviews will be scrutinized and do some minimal, basic preparation for these things.

I mean, I agree. I haven't watched the interview yet, so I probably should have before commenting. I'm just used to seeing clueless prospects every year give awful interviews about teams. I will be able to watch the interview tomorrow and may change my view in Sharpe if it's particularly bad. IQ is absolutely one of the biggest predictors of stardom. So no disagreements here.

OK, the interview was less than a minute so I watched it. Pretty dumb but pretty standard. He has no idea about the King's and may have smoked a fat one before that call. He's essentially a kid, coming out of HS. Can't judge him entirely on it but it's not exactly encouraging.

I wouldn’t go anywhere near Sharpe in the lottery. I have zero respect for sitting out a year of college to preserve your high school hype.
His tape looks pretty awful and his calling card is his leaping ability that isn’t very functional if you can’t get anywhere with your dribble as a guard.

I’ve come around on Ivey. Someone I really respect has him #2 behind Chet. Ivey isn’t a layup as a superstar, but there are enough markers that show he can be elite if he continues to develop. Point guard isn’t completely out of the question, but 5 + assists per 100 even with high turnovers has been found in a lot of the top shooting guards. I like his high three point attempt rate and he gets to the free throw line in high volume. Those are both very good indicators.
Our guard play outside of Fox is pretty abysmal and you can definitely have a functioning elite offense with two high usage on ball scorers.
You have to take him at 4 from a value perspective anyway. Even if it’s to trade back to get your guy. I would probably keep him though and roll that dice in hopes he can become an elite offensive talent.
After that I would look to sign Otto Porter in hopes of tempting him with a starting opportunity and to also play with Mike Brown again.

I don't follow college ball at all and rarely do much looking into players before the draft. I just saw this interview because it was posted here. I don't think I've seen any video of him playing and know nothing about him, so I'm just reacting to this brief clip (not to how good he is or if he'd work well on our team).
If this is fairly typical, whatever. But my recollection is that most interviewees I've seen have put some effort into learning a little background about a team before talking about them....
And if this was just a random Kings question in the middle of another discussion, OK, I guess. It just really strikes me as someone who doesn't prepare when they are trying to step up and land that first NBA contract. And that's not what you typically want in a player on your team.

Hard pass for me on this guy. He may be a good dude, but his actions over the past year come off as lacking competitive fire. This interview does nothing to convince me otherwise. Great chance I’m wrong, but his demeanor screams Markell’s Fultz 2.0 to me.
I don't think I'd want to drop beyond 7 without a godfather package.

4 for 6 and ??? and 2023 unprotected - I don't think Indy has the capital to get it done and we just made a huge deal with them but maybe Sabonis has someone he misses?
4 for 7, Hart, 2023 unprotected plus the 2025 they are getting from MIL via NO - I think this is an overpay for Portland but it might not be great for us either, but it's also not impossible that they are still a mess next year, Dame throws his hands up and asks out and that pick pays off huge.

Why are people acting like Sharpe is a normal college freshman? He's a high school senior who was able to graduate early. People should treat him as a HS early entry, not a freshman. He's in the draft on a technicality.

Having two 20 ppg players at any position is a really good thing. I don't even know if 20 ppg demands from each are necessary. Fox for sure, but Ivey coming in as a 20 ppg is dependent on role. To me, the closest comp to them would be Wall/Beal.
But A-Rod was a baseball player who retired in 2016. Different sport, and Edwards wasn't drafted into the NBA until 4 years later. Different generation of players.

I guess my point is, if you draft Ivey and plan on him being part of the core you want to maximize his best skill which is his ability to score. I’d give him a 10 percent chance at becoming a plus defender in his first 5 years and a 40 percent chance at being an above average shooter/ distributor. His best percentages are in the scoring which I’d place at 70 percent chance of being elite-ish. Just my best guess

10 percent? Well, that's up to him because he has the tools for sure. This is why they chose Brown. I'm still far more concerned about a player not having the physical abilities to play defense in the modern game. You can bust your hump all you want but that boulder won't be going up that hill unless you have the feet to stay in front and length to switch. Also, ask the Celtics about guard defense. Another DPOY at one of the two lost positions on defense of yesteryear PG/C got swallowed by the modern rules. You need firepower to win against the gatekeepers and potential gatekeepers to a championship.
Agree with all what's being said in re Sharpe's ignorance not being a disqualifier.
AND if your son stood to make or lose $millions partly on the basis on interviews - and had as many legitimate questions as Sharpe does - I imagine you/his agent would try to prepare him for this process. And, in this particular case, it's not like he has to have a sense of all 30 teams. Just the top-10 or so, where he's likely to be drafted.

Agreed. It’s not specifically that he doesn’t know anything about the kings. It’s that it just adds to what seems to be a pattern of lackluster preparation, desire, focus, etc. I just don’t see the traits of a winner or leader….even if he ends up being a 20 point per game scorer in the nba.
