KINGS PICKING 4TH IN 2022 NBA DRAFT!

Since Smith, Holmgren, Banchero, Ivey, Sharpe, Murray and Daniels are all top-5 picks, do we get to take two of them?
Jaden Ivey is an easy pass for me. With this draft pick, you absolutely have to factor in the fit of Fox and Sabonis. Both of our guys struggle to shoot. They also struggle to defend. You simply can't add another guy to the team who also shares the same question marks.
Lots of guys have been compared to Russell Westbrook out of UCLA throughout the years, but I think Ivey comes closest.

There's "fit" and there's "needs". Unless you are convinced that Ivey will not only be a great player, but he'll be a top 10 player, I don't see how you can pass on an equally good player who fits a "need" just because you are so scared of repeating the Marvin error which was allegedly a "fit" issue. I think there was a lot more to it than just fit, but now that's all anyone wants to hear here.

Using assists is the wrong measure then cause shots can be missed and it won’t get on the stat line so it should be passes in general. Also turnovers aren’t just on passes alone. You can get swiped while you have the ball dribbling, running on a fast break, driving etc.

we tried fit before and you saw what happened lol. BPA every time no matter what with a top pick.

I'm not convinced he'll be a top 10 player.
We are not in the same position that we were in 2018. I was one of the few who HIGHLY opposed granting Fox as our franchise guy because I didn't think he showed me enough. I wanted us to draft Doncic, and trade Fox. But back then, we were a re-building team with zero All-Stars.
Present time, Fox is in his prime. We have an All-Star in Sabonis who is also in his prime. This is the right time to start building around them. I don't think we can afford to be cute anymore.

Am I the only one who's getting iffy on DX's draft coverages? The "pro-day" videos they're posting out now are all highly edited clips that make the player look phenomenal. They're also worded to be highly complimentary of the player. I remember when it used to mean something when a guy actually showed out at his draft day. I also remember when DX released a shooting video of Markelle Fultz missing a bunch of 3s in an open gym. I wonder if this is the higher ups at ESPN telling the guys to place nice in order to keep the connections they have with agencies.

Anybody taking Dyson Daniels in the top 5 needs their head checked.

He is not a top 5 talent.
If we stay at #4, I think the pick will come from this group. Ivey's talent in getting to the basket is undeniable even if he doesn't compliment Fox and Mitchell particularly well on defense. Murray is the Not Quite As Big Fundamental with his well-rounded game and stone-faced demeanor. He's not flashy but he is consistent in his effort and always finds ways to contribute to winning. Mathurin is the wild-card who brings shooting, athleticism, confidence, and length on the wing. He has a nice mix of proven production and growth potential that Monte might find appealing given his stated desire to add shooting this off-season and draft players who are ready to contribute from day one.
I like that we're also looking at Tari Eason, Mark Williams, Ochai Agbaji, Dyson Daniels, and some of the potential early 2nd sliders in Baldwin and Jovic. Hopefully our front office gets a chance to see Jeremy Sochan and AJ Griffin up close as well. That would cover pretty much everyone who is realistically in play for us in the top 10 (in the event of a trade-down scenario). I doubt Holmgren, Smith, or Banchero will want to work out in Sacramento since they all feel like they're locked into the top 3.
Draftexpress died for me about 8 years ago. It was one of the first websites with comprehensive coverage including exclusive interviews with both US and international players but the closer Givony got to his front office contacts the more biased his evaluations became until I just stopped reading/watching his stuff altogether. Good for him turning his hobby into a career but his talent is mostly in networking -- he was never much of a scout.

That’s what Portland and many other teams thought too and then well Chicago and many others had fun instead. We still don’t have a top 10 player. Thinking Sabonis is enough is the incorrect mindset imo. We need way more talent to alter this franchise. BPA over fit every time with a top pick.

The Kings probably don't even have a top 50 player atm, I'm not saying to draft Ivey but whoever is the best talent should be drafted Fox and Sabonis have not proven anything in terms of being able to build a team around them as a # 1 guy nor should the whole "fit" issue come into play. Fit should only come into play when trading for vets or picking up cheap vets via free agency.
Mathurin was my favorite pick if we were around 7th/8th.
If we traded back, I'd be all about picking him but I'm not sure he's worthy of #4.

Maybe not always depending on how the upside vs. fit shakes out but people still don't understand this, there aren't any truly bad fits. This team has PG/C on lockdown in a draft that's full of SG/SF/PF talent. This draft is fully open after Monte cleared the clutter at SG. If they still had Davion/Hali/Fox/Buddy that literally probably takes out half of the top 10 right there on fit alone. I was loathing this draft for the Kings up until those trades. Then it became a potentially great draft and now they moved up to 4. Don't blow it Monte. You have a chance at star talent now and MAX space coming up. This is your shot to not just get into the "mix" but to potentially build a top 3 talented team in the west.

Yeah I don't think the value is there but if the Kings come out with someone like him it's still a win. Probably didn't maximize their asset as well as they could unless it's a trade down but Griffin/Mathurin/Murray/Ivey/Sharpe are all in that range likely so it could be worse.

Keep Fox, DiVincenzo, Barnes, & Sabonis in place and trading for Holmgren makes a lot of sense.
That leaves the two potential trades as being…
- #4 & Mitchell for #2
- #4 & SAC 2023 1st for #2
PG - Fox / Mitchell
SG - DiVincenzo / Davis
SF - Barnes / Holiday / Harkless
PF - Holmgren / Lyles / Metu
C - Sabonis / Holmes / Len
I’d probably look to flip Holmes for a SF/PF considering I might just have Holmgren slide over and take up the backup C minutes when he’s not playing next to Sabonis.
One of the things that I don't like about Keegan Murray scouting reports is they usually start off with how good he is in transition. To me, that's not really a big deal because almost every player is good in transition. But not only that, it's a pretty small part of the game.
There's Buddy and DDV at the bottom - then 99% of the other players in the middle - and then a couple of Giannis type players at the top.

I mostly would agree with you on this, If we were a properly run franchise haha. Going BPA gave a ton of trade value and landed us Sabonis. At the very least we can prolly pull off another trade like this if necessary due to the upside of the player. I also don’t trust our scouting dept to pick based on fit as we have never landed anybody in forever for the most part

That's true and to Monte's credit he cashed in at the right time. He built up Haliburton and flipped him and I think that was the intent because of the shift in style going back to Fox after the trade. Ivey shouldn't be getting in the way of Fox. Haliburton is a passer and a PG and thus needed the ball, Ivey is far more capable running off screens or attacking the defense rather than surveying or drive and dishing. In fact, those are some of his weaknesses right now, haha. Talk about a great fit for him as well. I think if the Kings aren't perfect for him, Detroit with Cade certainly is.

Oof, that would be gutsy. Holmes at this point would have to be moved for expirings for sure considering the bump in pay of a #2 pick and Donte being brought back if it's the MLE deal he's looking for. IMO it's super important the Kings are in a position next summer to both retain Barnes and be able to offer as close to a full max contract as possible for leverage sake. If the Kings don't draft a SG, or maybe even if they do, the guy they'll likely go after is Beal. Didn't Beal demand the Wiz bring him Sabonis? Well, he'll have to come to Domas now, lol. It's a pipe dream obviously but imagine that squad. Fox/Beal/Barnes/Holmgren/Sabonis. Goodness gracious.

I know DIDDLY about Dyson Daniels - and note that he shot only 25% from 3 in G-League. But tell you wut: I LOVE guys who fill the stat sheet.
11.3 pts, 6.2 boards, 4.4 assists (vs. 2.4 TO), 1.9 steals and .7 blocks in 31 mpg - VERY nice.
