I actually consider this title to be a little deceptive given that there is not much in the article itself other than some speculation from Rick, who is not a trainer. But its news nonetheless:

Kings notes: Abdur-Rahim, Wells expected to be out longer

There seems to be an unfortunate trend developing for the Kings when they face the Los Angeles Clippers: Bad news regarding Shareef Abdur-Rahim is near.

When the teams faced off 10 days ago at Staples Center, the Kings had just learned the ill fate of their starting power forward, with X-rays revealing that his jaw was broken. They hoped he would return in weeks rather than months.

But Thursday, one day before the latest Kings-Clippers meeting, coach Rick Adelman said he expects Abdur-Rahim to be out at least six more weeks. With a medical re-evaluation expected in the next week or two, Adelman gave his own assessment early.

"They're saying he can do some things, like run on the treadmill, and start doing some things fairly soon," Adelman said. "But if you've been around him at all, and talked to him at all, he's had a real difficult time talking, so I don't know how he's going to breathe. ... Right now, I think you've got to look at six weeks at least."

Abdur-Rahim, whose jaw was wired shut Dec. 28 to fix his left mandibular angle fracture, is on a liquid diet.

"I don't know how much weight he's going to lose in this time," Adelman said. "When he does come back, I don't know how much stamina he's going to have. I just think it's a total unknown for us right now."

Which also is the case for the other injured Kings starter. Shooting guard Bonzi Wells, who suffered a partial tear in his groin against Charlotte on Dec. 19, is not ahead of his recovery schedule, Adelman said. Originally, Wells was expected to miss three to four weeks.

Wells officiated a Kings scrimmage at practice Monday, and has taken part in some shooting drills. But mostly he's working with Daniel Shapiro, who is in his first season as the team's strength and conditioning coach.

"He hasn't done any running, cutting or anything like that," Adelman said. "Until he actually gets out on the floor and starts moving and cutting, then you're going to know how he feels. But he's still moving a little ginger."

Think of the bright side after Shareef looses some weight he'll be able to start at SF.

That's a bright side?

Reef playing worse defense? Miller playing worse defense?

I mean, Miller is getting destroyed by centers when it comes to quickness and strength ... I can only imagine what elite PFs would do.

I think these injuries have let our bench players evolve. We now actually have confidence to pass the ball to K-Mart but I'm not sure about Garcia though. KT has been decent so far but he's just too inconsistent. One night he will go off and explode with 20+ points and another night he will let your team down with lack of effort and desire to win. If these players from our bench continue to play like this when our starters come back I think we will have a pretty good chance of going on a winning streak but thats a big IF.

If K-Mart can't produce off the bench then I think this team should consider trading Peja and KT for someone like Lamar Odom or Ron Artest who are explosive and can fix most of this team's problems like rebounding and defense. I'm in favor of Odom because I've always liked his energy on the offensive and defensive end and not only does he rebound the ball well, but he can also play the PF position and pass the ball very well for his size.
