Kings not playing well! Shocked? You shouldn't be

Okay,

So I have been reading about the fans' perspective of the Kings struggling and it boggles my mind that people are saying the things they are saying. Here's why: Ask yourself these questions:

1. The King's three best active players are how old?
2. Of the starting five, how many are rookies or second year guys?
3. How long has the coaching staff been in place?

The answers to these questions should lead you to this conclusion: This is a very young, very raw team anyway you look at them.

4. How do young, raw teams perform over 82 games?

The answer to this question is also clear: Inconsistently... there will be periods of inspired play and periods of disappointing play.

5. How have the Kings played this season?

See... how could anyone expect consistent winning from this team? This is not a team of assembled vetrans with a couple young guys in an established coaching system like the Kings had late in the 1990s, but a completely young team with a new coaching staff. They will get back to winning games, they may potentially compete for the 8th seed, but this season cannot be expected to be consistent. So, my advice, for what it's worth (nothing), just relax and enjoy watching something that has NEVER happend in Sacramento... a Kings player is the FRONTRUNNER for rookie of the year! This is the sort of thing that never happens... enjoy it! GO KINGS!

As a Maccabi fan (Omri's team in Israel) - you don't know how lucky your are!!!!

In my opinion it is amazing that the team is actually investing in building and developing rookies. The worst thing that can happen to the Kings now is chasing this 8th place. Let the rookies play, give them confidence, create a chemisty between them and in next couple of years these annoying losses will disappear.

In Maccabi - the team changed completly on yearly basis as the managment is looking for "instant success" and this is really not fun.

DO NOT TRY TO GO CELTICS WAY - as a fan (Kings as well - come on if you draft one of ours, you get the entire bunch :) ) it is 10 thousand times better to see a team developing.

Sorry for my bad English

I completely agree with you. A lot of people got their hopes up a little too high. The fact is, the Kings are on pace for nearly 30 wins, and they are very competitive (most of the time). That in itself is a drastic improvement.

My only concern with their losing streak is that at some point voters might begin factoring in the Kings record and potential lack of improvement in the win column when it comes to Rookie of the Year voting. If Milwaukee makes the playoffs, and Jennings starts playing better, let's say he even has another crazy game that gets national attention (50 points or a triple double or a game winning shot, etc.) Then all of a sudden the ROY doesn't look like such a lock. I really think that, as much as anything, is really important for this franchise, and perhaps even something that might influence a star to want to come play in Sacramento.

we're playing poorly because we are back at square one with this team now that martin is back. he looks like he doesnt want to step on anyones toes and the rest of the team doesnt know how to react to him being on the court. they'll be fine in the long run but right now its just ugly...

though the roster doesnt really compliment each other, they are a better team than their record would suggest. i said the same thing about this team last year so i'll feel extra foolish if they dont win 30+ games this season.... i know that they can but its complicated given their situation right now. it wont get any easier when garcia comes back.

but it will be interesting to see in action for the remaining half of the year. hopefully martin and garcia play well enough to be traded over the summer. i'll still be a kings fan if they arent here next year. that martin for tmac trade looks sweeter and sweeter to me each day....

Yes great post, I would compare us to the young Trailblazers of a few years ago, or even the OKC Thunder of a year ago. Those teams didnt win alot of games, but they had a young core of players and you knew they would be good in the future.

Thanks NoBonus. Right on dude!!! Now if only the whiners and complainers would read AND UNDERSTAND this point, it would be a lot more fun to read all the posts and replies. It takes time folks, pure and simple. :D

The group this year is avery exciting (and frustrating too) far more so than the past 3 years. JT and Spence, and all bigs, take a bit more time than backcourt players. Hawes came out a year too early and is now finding out he can't yet bang with most centers. JT was a 5 for his college career but now a 4 in the NBA. He didn't play that much last year and now is playing every game. But he still hasn't learned NBA defense with his feet to position rather than reaching with his arms/hands.

Chatting online with Bajaden he brought up a great point about Tyreke:

" I kept track of *every pass by Tyreke that should have been an assist. They totaled 8. So he easily could have had 15 assists if his teammates could just make easy baskets."

When the kids are so tired (rookie wall and also affecting Greene/JT) finishing becomes even more difficult. So we just have to be patient. It takes time.
