Better than first though

I'm not sure if this is being discussed elsewhere, but it also belongs here too.

Jason Kidd wants out of NJ

NJ isn't doing too hot and Kidd requested a trade,

I'd love to see this happen, since the Kings have the near lowest (if not lowest) assists per game in the NBA. Mikki Moore would also do better playing with his former PG in Kidd. Bibby is expendable with Udrih being a backup. I'd hesitate to let Artest go, but I'd definitely let him go for Kidd

Also, Kidd would get more rebounds than any other guard on our roster. Kings rebounding hasn't been too hot.

Geoff Petrie, please make this one move to save this season

Well, here's the problem with this deal: it puts the team in a worse position financially, but better as far as a team standpoint for the very short term.

Here's why it's bad financially: Ron Artest is going to opt out after this year, so that means that even if the Kings don't move him before the deadline, he won't be on the roster next season. So, if this deal is made for Kidd, the kings are essentially trading a 14 mil contract for a 20 mil contract. Next season, Ron will be gone, so instead of paying Mike 14 mil, they will be paying Kidd about 20 mil.

On the flip side, Ron, who doesn't fit with the team's chemistry, will be gone half a season sooner, and Mike, a shoot-first PG who is a defensive liability, will be gone.

I think a bigger effort should be made if the kings would be able to both dump players that don't fit, and put them in a better situation cap wise.

It just won't get through me that Petrie will make a move to send 2 of his stars and just get one back. So I've made a revised trade instead:

Bibby + Thomas + J. Williams = Kidd + S. Williams

Trade actually works.

Justin and Sean Williams basically will cancel each ability. But since I'm a Justin Williams supporter. This should give him more PT in a less crowded frontline. And getting S. Williams to us a good insurance for the future frontline with Hawes as we still don't know how much Justin may demand in the future. So locking a good big man rookie to a lower and longer contract is always welcomed. Bibby + Thomas for Kidd is the key for the trade as New Jersey's front line may just get a few boost for KT and Bibby and Kidd, well deserves their star status.

As for Artest, let's trade him for another star to compliment our team and we should be off for the playoffs.

well...I like the idea...and I guess it's pick your poison...you either can get rid of Kenny Thomas, or you can get rid of Ron Artest...with Bibby being the caveat.

I would go as far as throwing in our 1st + Bibby and Thomas or Reef to get Kidd. I've been against trading for Kidd in the past because I don't think he helps us going forward. I've changed my position because it doesn't look like we're seriously rebuilding. If we're building on the fly and looking for entertainment, Kidd can help immensely.

Kidd would make the best out of the Moore situation. Kidd would minimize the fact Martin isn't a passer and allow him to be a scorer. He would be the dominant floor presence that might calm Artest. So long as he gets along with Reggie, he could make everybody, including himself more valuable. Theres a possibility Salmons would get left in the cold though. He hasn't played well when he doesn't get the ball early and often in the shotclock.

We'd top 5 protect the pick. And if we're a late lottery pick, it wouldn't be that huge of a loss as it's a weak draft.

And why would he want to come here? This is the risk of sucking.

Yeah, but it could also be a matter of who sucks more. By record, this team is better than than NJ 19-24 (SAC record) vs 19-26 (NJ record) (which is close to the same record).
However, the Kings team hasn't reached their full potential as a healthy unit. Someone has always been out (Bibby, Artest, Martin) which could be a difference maker in the wins column. The core of players who have been healthy (Salmons, Garcia, Miller, Moore, 5th would be Udrih, but he missed time too) could be a good complement to Kidd. And by good I mean the Kings would most likely suck less than what NJ is doing. Mr. Triple Double deserves better than being on a team headed nowhere. If Kidd doesn't move, chances are he will not make the playoffs unless NJ pulls the trigger making a big trade. If Kidd does move, he will be a difference maker no matter where he ends up.

All I was stating is that Kidd said he wanted out of NJ according to AP news articles. It's debatable whether the Kings would suck as much with Kidd, personally I'd much rather have him over Bibby and I'd give up Artest (time bomb? debatable, but right now he's more of a help than hurt) too since he's most likely gone at the end of the season anyways.

I think that Kidd could help in two problem area with the Kings. He would help out in assists (Kings currently 29th out of 30th in APG, with the same rank in -assist differential). Also Kidd would be a rebounding improvement over Bibby or Udrih (Sac being 29th in number of boards and 25th in differential). The King's team is full of shooters (Martin, Cisco, Moore, Miller arguably others too) but lacks a producer like Kidd (Salmons, Udrih, and Miller are the closest to being producers), Udrih as the point guard (top Kings assist player; Bibby has basically same average) gets only half half the assists per game compared to Kidd (10.4 compared to 4.3).

Risk of sucking yes, but there's a chance by being on any other team Kidd could be a difference maker rather than being in NJ, which at their current rate will end the season with a losing record.
