Kings Needs and Availability in the Draft (merged)

Kings right now are missing alot of things. We are definitely missing someone in the post who can defend and other than Bonzi we are missing good perimeter defenders. I can't really see us pulling a big FA. The draft now is offering pretty good picks this year. I can't see us upgrading at the 1/2 positions next year since Bibby and Bonzi (I hope we resign) are hopefully set. Peja is a big question mark, so far he hasn't proved his worth this year. Miller is still a good player for our offensive system problem is defensively he is a crap to say it lightly. SAR I think we definitely keep the guy.

Next year I'm hoping we lose Peja. Now I know some of you guys will be up and arms but I have my reasons. We really don't need a guy with his skill set. We need someone who can defend ALA Artest and rebound and make the occasional pass and most of all hustle. The ideal guy who we still can't get would be Artest, but Battier is also another guy who fits this mold and again we can't pry him away. The other reason I want to lose Peja is he just doesn't bring it every night, he doesn't play hard most nights and on a team like ours we really don't need that. We've seen without a great passing big man like Divac, he can't operate to his full potential and right now we aren't getting another Divac.

Another thing is can we lose some of our dead weight which seems to be killing our bench this year. I like Corliss, Kenny, and Skinner but they are dead weights this year. I don't know what we can get for these guys but I hope we package one of them with Peja for a decent player (Harrington or someone who can defend). Wasn't the reason we got those guys is b/c they would be easier to move than Webber, and now that we have SAR and Brad is healthy, these guys don't fit our needs.

Personally I think we can do alot with this draft. I think as ugly as he is Sheldon Williams (I hate Duke as a UNC fan), would be the perfect guy for our team. He is a much better version of Skinner. He can score and is the best post defender by far available in college. The man can block "GOOT." Josh Boone is also a good defensive player but I don't know if he'd be that much of an upgrade for our team.

I hope the team turns it around but our division is very tough this year and we can't get too far behind. Phx is heating up without Amare, GS has been playing well and so have the Clippers. With Peja stinking it up we will fall farther and farther behind. I don't know how long it'll take but we can't afford to keep Peja playing like that on the floor when we have Younger players who will hustle on the bench. When Peja is healthy he definitely deserves to be on the floor, until then, SIT EM'. I know it'll never happen but it needs to happen.

Personally, I hope Peja goes too. He has too weak a mentality and game to be on a leaderless team like our (Mike is no leader). Artest would be a dream to have right now...

its funny to me.... peja scores 13 points and people expect us to win games....

we play gsw and phx 3 more times and the lakers and clippers 4..... neither gsw or clippers will be winning 55-60 games so i wouldnt worry too much.... but we really did need to win that game yesterday....

I expect Peja our "best player" to play as the best player or atleast scorer on this team. If can't possibly do that with his finger injury he doesn't need to be on the floor. Without his shooting touch he's terrible on the court.

The big key is we really don't need a shooter, we need a complete player who can hustle, defend, rebound, and be a team player. Peja is only good at 1 thing, the 3 point shot. Yes we need a 3 point shooter but we don't need a "good" 3 point shooter being the focal point of the team. It wasn't a bad thing when we had Brad and Divac passing him the ball and Christie player D, but now it's really starting to show a hole on this team.

If we were to get a post defender like Williams, I don't know what our lineup would be but in our current state we can't afford to keep a team without a good post defender in the starting lineup. It's such a weakness with our team.

Adam Morrison

Isn't he just the American Version of Peja or Dirk. He's a shooter? Does he do much else. He is very talented, but a talent we don't need. Morrison is an excellent shooter 55% from the field at the college level. He isn't particular good at the 3 (36.7%) but is an excellent 2 point shooter. He rebounds at a decent clip (6.2) this year but it isn't very impressive.

Well, the Peja stuff has been blasted all over boards(some true, some ignorant, some exaggeration, some wrong) anyways. But as far as the draft goes, we'll draft at least one frontcourt player (or players, depending on the future).

So much depends on what happens between now and then with trades and sleeper picks, etc. etc. But if I had my pick I'd go with LaMarcus Aldridge, Ronnie Brewer or Tiago Splitter. I'm not sold on Rudy Gay.

Sheldon Williams sucks.

Leon Powe, from Cal, is who we need! He is finally healthy and is tearing it up. He's a force. Elton Brand, but more athletic.

If he was black you would be comparing him to to T-Mac or Melo instead he gets put with unathletic white guys. Both Peja and Dirk are not good comparisons to this guy. Dirk is 4 inches taller. and his hieght was alot to do with his advantages. Peja does not bring the ball inside with effectiveness. Morrison has shown he does that well.

With Peja out of town, Morrison is an awesome draft pick. Admittedly we are getting way ahead of ourselves here.

Morrison is dominating this year, but I really really really would like some athleticism. He's not as unathletic as his reputation, but he's also going to have big defensive problems. I think I've had my fill of that for the foreseeable future.

Not really he goes under the quote on quote shooters and not passers. He isn't that bad of a rebounder but for a quote on quote swing player he's way below par when it comes to passing the ball as shown by his horrid assist numbers, even T-Mac and Kobe pass well if need be. I hope he has good defensive skills, elsewise he's just like Peja a guy who shoots well but does nothing else particularly well. I've seen Morrison play and he is an excellent shooter, I would say the same thing about Peja when healthy. We don't need excellent shooters, we need a complete player who can defend, rebound, assist much higher than average rather than shoot higher than average. Another thing with Morrison is we'd have to win the lottery because right now he's at this moment one of potential top 3 in the draft.

All I'm saying is I'd rather have a player who was D first on our team. And from looking at Morrison's stats it's obvious he's an O first player. And with our current roster I'd like to see us get away from that cause obviously it's not bringing us any success lately. As much as I'd like to see Morrison on our team, if we are going to draft high why would be waste it on something we do well on most nights which is score rather than build up on something we do pretty poorly which is play D. We don't need people who can score, we need players who focus on D like Christie was in the past.

I would fully expect Petrie to target Morrison, which is why I do not want him. It would be sickeningly simple for Petrie to replace his golden boy, Peja, with a new one. I think that Morrison is this year's Dunleavy Jr, or even Carmelo if you want. Guys who are the focal point of their college offenses, are great scorers, but whose intangibles are suspect. Dunleavy and Melo are both nice athletes. Melo gets better dunks, but I'm not overly impressed w/ either of them athletically, same as Morrison.

Leon Powe scares me due to injury history, but the guy is awesome. If we picked up a late first due to trade (I expect to "earn" a lottery pick) I would take a flier on Powe. He was the clear #2 guy behind Lebron in high school, and there was even a healthy debate about who was better before Leon's first injury.

I would want Sheldon Williams most. The guy is a beast, has played at a high level, and gotten noticeably better each year. That last point is huge to me. It means that every summer he is working hard on his game to improve his weaknesses, not to merely hone his strengths. Contrast that ethic with guys like Brad and Peja, and Williams becomes a very intriguing prospect.

Unfortunately, in a year without the high school kids, Williams will be a Top 5 pick at least. So, there's that. But this Kings team could find itself with one of this picks.

Geeze, we are only 18 games into the season and people are talking about the next draft already. Wow.

Maybe it's because I see no direction with this current team. When I've seen the team on the court the minimal number of times I've seen them, the bench has looked lost and the starters have looked lost at many times as well. On top of that the perimeter D (giving up 3s) is terrible this year on top of our lack of a true post defender. I just think if we're going to have a poor year (right now were last in the Pacific) we need to look into what we can do. I can't see Adelman changing what he's doing right now, and I don't see how things can really change with the current roster.

JJ Reddick?

I don't get this. I've seen his name pop up a ton. Don't we have enough undersized shooters who can't defend? Reddick sucks. He is short, unathletic, not strong. He can shoot and he is fiery. Basically, he is Jon Barry - a nice player...We all loved JB. But he is not a top pick. He will be good for a team off the bench, being drafted late in the 1st round or early in the 2nd. We will be a lottery team. That would be a huge waste of a pick.

i either want adam morrison or shelden williams like i said before. Adam is more of a scorer however and shelden is more of a post player, so i would want shelden. Plus shel is a more likely pick for us since adam will probably go top 5

aite everybody time for kings fans to watch more college bball landscape .... i like adam morrison , trade peja and get morrison who has heart like a beast .

JJ Reddick :D

Ugh, no...

We wouldn't and shouldn't draft JJ Redick. We have Garcia/Martin already, plus JJ is undersized (6'4" 190) NBA-wise for SGs, bad defensively, and not athletic. Very good offensively though (is driving to the basket consistently this season, or near it, supposedly). I expect us to draft frontcourt player(s) in next years draft, as we should.

How about LeMarcus Aldridge/Shelden Williams/Taj Gray/Eric Williams/Mohammed Kone/Hilton Armstrong/Torin Francis/Yemi Nicholson....

All I see here is we need a scorer. We need to play defense. We are averaging what just under a hundred a game? Where is the double teaming the full court pressing, and the rotating help on the defensive side of the ball. Where is the intensity on the offensive and defensive glass other than Wells? Kevin was sat down I guess for being a mediocre player? Here is my question when the hell is Adleman going to sit the rest of them down. It should be Bonzi against whatever team is coming into town. No, I am not a Bonzi Wells fanatic, I am Kevin's uncle and as lazy as he played I wonder why he has been sat down like he is the reason we can not win a game. The starters are giving a pee poor effort, and the bench players are playing like they're mad because they are not starting. The next home game I say, sit them all down and lets watch the janitors wax the the court for three hours. Tonight Sir Charles Barkley said it best at halftime. The Kings are looking for a leader and a style of play. He said, the offense we run does not fit the type of roster we have, and I say Bibby is not the leader of this team. The team dime posse is the only thing he is leading. If he was the leader he would be calling the team meetings, not SAR. Just alittle inside track for ya. The Princeton offense left with C Webb, and it is not coming back. We do not need another scorer, we need a new system and we will continue to struggle until one is implemented. GO JANITORS!!!!!! I wonder what they look like in the gold jerseys. There is no doubt they would play more like a team.

Yeah, but would he just shut up and play?

Ah, but there's the true beauty of the plan...

We don't want him to shut up. We want him to run his mouth. At least someone on the team would be saying SOMETHING.

;)

When Terrell Owens was at a Kings game a few years back, he said he liked basketball better than football. "I hate football!", he said.
