So....is he good?

He's regarded as a top tier talent scout. He played professionally and was on the Kings bench as a assistant coach in 1991. Under Pete He was officially the Assistant GM. So it was #1 numbers guy Pete and #2 talent guy Mike

For those that don't remember, Mike Bratz and the Kings go way back. He was on the original team that came from Kansas City. I believe he also served as an assistant coach at some point. Tôo tired to look it up.. My contribution for the day.

So GOOD to see you posting. You keep getting better, you hear?!?!

but wait...I thought Vlade was our GM? I know his official title is President of Basketball operations/finances but is Bratz just a temporary fill in until Vlade gets his guy?

Nah, Bratz is far more qualified to be the GM than Vlade. I am totally fine with this. Now bring on Petrie as a consultant

I'm glad to see an official replacement. I don't know too much about him personally, maybe that is a good thing, maybe he is quiet and off the radar.

Yep, read it and weep,
Vlade is not our GM! Bratz is, at least acting. I didn't think Vlade would ever presume to be our GM. I'm happy. Does it make you feel uneasy?

I don't trust him as far as I could throw him given he was deeply involved not only in the PDA regime here, and for years before he came here in the Denver nonsense.

but
1) Karl's man maybe? That is both good and bad.
2) clearly the most qualified guy to assume an interim spot left in the front office
3) if Vlade holds the real power anyway, could be precisely that weak "manager" GM I mentioned elsewhere, unspectacular choice but solid experienced assistant capable of running meetings/making sure the office runs smoothly.

Pass.

Bratz is most likely a fan of jumpshootinjg non-defensive nonsense as it is. We've already been the worst defensive franchise in the last decade in the NBA. We keep on hiring/recycling more ridiculous pussyballers and we could well go down as the worst defensive franchise in the history of the NBA and never win again.

It's a good sign to see Vlade move right away even if it is to name an interim GM. Bratz may not be THE GM but his background sounds better than West's for the GM position.

That's certainly one view. A rather negative one and one it's not hard to see you holding. Please excuse me if
I hold a much more optimistic one. Write it in the book.

Well, you've taken pretty much the same stance for most of the past 5 years so not sure it's saying that much.

Is this just your assumption? Or do you know for a fact that is his preference? Either way he's better than any current alternative seeing as how the workouts/draft are right upon us

Is he better than anything right now? Sure but just leave him in the role he was in while you look for a more permanent replacement. I don't love featuring a front office of a vp with no front office experience and a scouting guy who has basically partnered with PDA for the last five years while jazz director Vivek does his thing.

Yes, it's not ideal...but with the draft around the corner and this guy having done the bulk of the scouting, I'm not sure of any other alternative . Although I'd gladly bring SAR back to draft since he seems to have a better grasp on what this team needs than the others

Bratz has been a player personnel man for a long time. Here is his NBA.com bio:

http://www.nba.com/coachfile/mike_bratz/

He has a long history with the Kings and is highly regarded for his scouting ability, which is good to have. We will see if the interim tag is removed later, but on such short notice with PDA departure, the Kings need to keep their head scout on the team.

It may have been a situation that there was a threat that PDA would try to take him with him to Denver and leave the Kings with no experience right before the Draft and Free Agency. Being a Stanford man, you know he is pretty smart.

It doesn't really make me feel anything...I just want to bring someone in who knows what they are doing and presumably have some type of background. Stability would also be nice.

The team has thrived and perished in the Petrie era. It's time to let go of the golden era of Kings basketball and start a new era.

Just an assumption.

Bratz has been part of the Denver experience for years, and PDA didn't exactly go around cultivating people with divergent opinions. He hired cronies and yes men. Bratz being one of his hires. And most of his playing days were spent with Phoenix, Golden State and the Kings at as time when we were a team of jumpshooting wusses too.

Yeah, forgot about the DEN stint. Well I guess we shall see in a few weeks.
