Kings may audition sean may?

May auditioning for four teams in Vegas

The Bobcats might be skipping Las Vegas this summer, but Sean May is out there, looking for employment.
May told me via email Monday night that he'll work out for Portland and Sacramento Tuesday, Cleveland Wednesday and the Clippers on Thursday. Most NBA executives are in Las Vegas this week for the annual summer league. So with May saying he's in good health and conditioning, it's logical for him head to Vegas for some informal auditions.
May became an unrestricted free agent after the Bobcats chose not to make him a $3.6 million-plus qualifying offer. However, with the Bobcats still needing a backup power forward, general manager Rod Higgins has said he's open to the idea of re-signing May.

First rumer I have seen regarding Kings search for another big man
If Bobcats didnt make a 3.6 mil qual offer, he may be in Kings price range?
Kings famous for giving second chances? Anyone think he is a better option than Ike?

If he can stay healthy, he's a legit player and I like him a lot. I'm just not familiar with all the health issues and whether they are chronic or not.

The one involving him constantly stuffing stuff into his pie hole certainly seems chronic.

Combine that with microfracture and you have a real peach.

As an aside, if we are talking about getting tougher and more defensive inside let's just say this is not the route to take. Guy had some talent on offense, on the glass, but he never stopped anybody even when he was healthy.

Hes not a bad player, but wouldnt we rather have Brockman or Diogu play backup PF for a season than him with all his injury concerns.

Well if he could go, he would have more upside than Brockman certainly, and assuming that super-Ike was a fluke, then Ike too. But he's really stubby, chubby damaged goos, and the sort of thing I like more as a 4th or 5th big with potential steal potential than anythign else. If we got a real backup center who could clog the middle, kept Brockman, and then added Mays as well, that would not be a bad 5. The three important guys, and then your choice of hustle or potetnial off the bench. If Mays works out, he squeezes into the rotation and gives you options and Brockman becomes cheerleader/practice hustle guy. If Mays does not work out, then we are still fine with the main roation and the one hustle scrub who you know will leave it on the floor as long as he is out there.

I certainly wouldn't offer more than the minimum salary, with maybe a team option on the second year, just in case he turns out to be better than advertised. He's been nothing but a walking injury since he was drafted, so I'm leery of any long term investment. Memories of SAR spring to mind. And I endorsed that signing at the time.

History tells us that the players that have sucessfully had careers after that type of surgery are, number one, young, and number two, don't weigh 300 pounds. Yeah, I know he's suspossed to be at 270 right now, but thats still a lot of weight to put on surgically repaired knee's..

Two years (and two thousand donuts ago) I would have said "hell yes."

May was a skilled player with soft hands - but his weight accelerated/exacerbated his knee problems. I think his size is always going to be a problem for him...if he hasn't figured it out after 3 seasons, he likely will never figure it out. I doubt he could contribute much...see his numbers for last season and repeat.

Besides, what good are soft hands when no one is passing the ball to him :p

If the offer were too low, the Bobcats just might match it. ( assuming they have bird rights). This news is really disappointing. We have maybe Brockman & Thomas as our backups at the 4/5 and this is the best we can come up with as far as filling out the roster.

I've always suspected that Ike is our fall back guy. But, who is going to back up Hawes. So, far this summer, JT doesn't look to be the best option. And, not just because of his play. I'm really concerned about his having 9 PF in both of the last 2 games and 23 in 3 games.

Bird rights just mean they can go over the cap to sign him and give an extra year on the contract. He's not a restricted FA where they can match.

Memories of John 'Hot Plate' Williams and 'The Really Big O' Oliver Miller come to mind when I think of Sean May. Petrie better include some weight clause if he plans on drawing up a contract for him.

The only way the Kings should sign this guy is if they feel he has the potential to excel. If he is just filling the roster, then I hope they stick with prospects that are not injury prone and are in shape. The last things the Kings need is another bench player who spends more time on the injured list than the bench. Play Kenny Thomas; at least he stays healthy.

I think you mixed up his abilities and what he orders at In and Out..

Nope. I've never admired his work ethic or health, but I do think he has 10/10 ability when healthy and with starter's minutes. Does that mean he'll have either of those two? No, I'm just saying if he can be had for relatively low risk/commitment I don't see what the big deal is.

Never admired his work ethic or health, and yet you think he's perfect for the Kings "when healthy and with starter's minutes."

Um, what? I don't care if he'll pay us to play, if he has a poor work ethic, is injury prone and can only be productive with starter minutes I don't want him anywhere near the Kings. There are too many other players out there with pretty much the same skill set but without the baggage.

And no offense whatsoever, but you thinking he has double-double ability isn't enough to change my mind. People thought Justin Williams had double-double ability, too, and where is he again?

;)

I didn't say he was only productive with starters minutes, I'm saying I think he could put up those numbers with starter's minutes, so you're getting that production relative to minutes.

I think you meant Oliver Miller.

Why is Ike Diogu not re-signed already?! I mean, our search should begin, and end there. There is nobody out there better than him, mostly because there's nobody out there period but still. Diogu looked really good, has no real injury history, and fit pretty well next to Jason and Spencer. What is the damn hold up.

He actually doesn't fit well with Jason and Spencer for one thing, and his little mini Shaq routine at the end of the year took place when we shut those guys down. But I would agree that given the little 3 game burst bringing him back on a minimum deal for a looksee might be worth it. I would think that a holdup could come there, if its not us just not believing, in Ike looking around seeing if he can get a better deal, either in the league or overseas.

Well, out of all the FA talk taking place the past few weeks.. I have to say, I have not heard Ike's name mentioned AT ALL.

That being said, I may be the most anti-Ike on this whole board, and yet I'd rather see him on this team next year more than Sean May.

Oops, guess I was wrong -- it is us:

Right now I'm actually pleased that the Kings FO isn't just rushing into anything. Maybe getting burned on the Beno deal has made them a little gunshy. Beno had a much bigger audition, and the Kings guessed wrong. At least up to this point.

Beno came here as a, not used much player, and played very well for half a season. Unfortunately, last year he showed why he hadn't been used much. Diogu came in as a, not used much player last year and played well for two games. I think I would wait a while and see who else shakes out after the money starts to dry up around the league. There are times when doing nothing, is better than doing something, just to be doing something.
