How would Brad Miller, John Salmons, Beno Udrih and Kenny Thomas push Dallas over the top to win a championship? Why would Dallas think these guys would be the final piece to winning a championship???

How does Sacramento continue the rebuilding process by getting older?

The deal doesn't make a whole lot of sense for either team.

well jason kidd is an expiring contract... but i dont see how our players put dallas over the top....

I'm sorry but this is laughable. Would this make Dallas better? not to mention put them over the top.

Kenny Freaking Thomas hoisting a trophy this summer...OH now that is really funny.

yikes...this is pretty ugly both ways....both teams moving in the wrong direction they each want to move...we get older...dallas doesnt get better....

Actually, I think it's a pretty good deal for us. Kidd is an expiring. Contracts for Wright and Williams run till next year (Williams has a qualifying offer for 2010-11, which can be picked depending on his production). Both are young guys with reasonable contracts. If they work out, great. Else, we don't lose much.

Stackhouse has a partial guaranteed contract ($2M buyout) for next year (like Miki). So, we could waive Miki and Stackhouse for a total of $4M next year, bringing us significantly under the cap. Or we could trade one or both of them to teams that want to get under the LT next year.

The question is, why would Dallas do it? Sure, Salmons and Brad can both play, and should improve them. Stackhouse wants out, and Kidd is also on decline. It's quite possible, that Beno is actually an upgrade on Kidd at this point. I would still think that they can do much better than pick our midddling vets, particularly, when they are giving away young guys with cheap contracts along with vets with huge expiring contracts.

Also, Cuban usually wants to win. This shall certainly move them back in playoff contention, and may even provide hopes of scaring their opponent in the first round. Doubt it shall be anything beyond that though. With his recent financial issues coupled with a potential need to rebuild in Dallas, wonder if he shall try to push towards playoff contention right now.

It makes them this much better.

numbers from RealGM tradechecker

Dallas

Change in Team Outlook: +23.5 ppg, +5.6 rpg, and +4.2 apg.

Just looking at the numbers, that makes this trade seem pretty one-sided, which would lead me to believe some type of insider trading was going on. ;)

I have a better idea lets trade the kings for dallas? and we'll just keep the team name here in sacramento?

Seriously, if there's one franchise I don't want to be right now, it's Dallas. They're basically Dirk, Kidd, Howard, Terry (none of them cheap) and a bunch of replaceable players, some expensive (Dampier, Diop, and Stackhouse make $24M between them).

They're not good enough to challenge for a title this year, but probably not bad enough in the long run to miss the playoffs, which means a lousy pick again this year.

They have no young talent to speak of, and of their 4 core players, 3 are on the wrong side of 30, with the 28 y.o. Howard the only exception. Kidd is a free agent after this year, and he'll be 36.

They already look to be over the luxury tax next year even without Kidd - do you think they can possibly afford to pay a dollar-for-dollar tax on the $20M it will take to keep Kidd, at 36? Can they even afford to go out and find an MLE point guard who will cost $12M after the tax? So, Jason Terry then?

Their young players consist of Shawne Williams (a 17th pick cast off from Indiana), Gerald Green (an 18th pick cast off from both Boston and Minnesota), Brandon Bass (decent tweener forward) and Nick Fazekas (yet to make any mark, should be able to shoot). That's not promising.

Oh, and their free-spending owner's in hot water over insider trading accusations.

The Mavericks future at this point is three years of the aging Dirk Nowitzki as he becomes increasingly frustrated with the declining quality of the team around him. But Dirk alone will be enough to keep them out of the high lottery, so once he bolts in the summer of 2011, they'll be left with Diop, Terry, and what exactly?

The Mavs are due to fall and fall hard, and it's not going to be a pretty climb back up. At least we've got a young nucleus of players with the promise of adding 1-2 more from the high lottery before we reemerge as contenders. For us, the end of the rebuild is in sight. For Dallas? Ugh.

It's not as far off as you make it seem. In the real world, I'd rather have Beno than Kidd, and I think he'd be a better fit for the Mavs and Rick Carlisle.

mayb tru..but only for long term....kidd is a great short term player and thats what they need....they arent trying to rebuild and we arent trying to get older...

BTW i was totally just kidding about trading our teams... i was making a joke about this proposed trade. its kinda like trading both teams straight up. obviously other than Dirk theres no one else i really like.

haha i think most of us got the joke haha

Beno is better than Kidd at this point but Stack will be good for us

No. I like the current gunner Beno, but he isn't better than Kidd.

I've had reservations about trading for Kidd in the past because of what you see on the current Dallas team. Now, I think he can be a good asset.

His 7rb, 8ast would be very good for our team. Not only would be a good fit with Martin but he would be good with Hawes and Thompson. His 8ast is better than our starting backcourt of Udrih and Martin, combined. It would make Martin's ballhandling and passing less of an issue.

Theus should be concerned though. Kidd is stubborn and bullheaded, and could be the straw like he's been in previous situations.

Stack on the other hand is way over the hill.

As a Kings fan I would love this trade, but I can't see Dallas doing it. Maybe it would be better if you replaced Kenny Thomas with Mikki Moore. We would have a ton of expirings, and have a ton of room to get good free agents. Plus, it would give our young guys much more time.
