Kings making Rudy available for trade?

Do you remember Artest's first game in the Kings uni? I think it was in Boston. Immediate impact right out the gate. Just an overall disruptor on defense. Him and Bonzi were unstoppable on the wings. I'd kill for a guy like that. Hell, I'd kill for a guy who gave 40% of what vintage Artest gave.

Vintage Artest was a very unique player who didn't get as much credit as he deserved because of his behavior and because his peak was relatively short. A DPOY quality wing (you have to be flat out dominant to even get consideration for that achievement as a wing player) who can also score 20 ppg is the great white whale that every basketball franchise is looking for. It would be an understatement to say that those types of players are few and far between. It would be more accurate to say there's only 1 in each generation. I don't see a single wing player in the league right now who's close to Artest as a defender, nevermind the scoring part.

I don't think the Kings will be able to pull off a trade for Rudy. No team is going to trade up a "quality young player" for him.
I don't get that part because I thought we were pushing for the playoffs?

This makes me confused because are we going to be rebuilding next year? Or will we bring Rondo back on an expensive ass contract rather than sign a young potential star?

Oh no, I wasn't saying we should trade Rudy for him lol.

I was thinking about defensive misfits who are on the market because no one else wants to touch them (Ron Artest)... Lance popped up. We could honestly get Stephenson for Seth Curry right now. Doc doesn't like him for whatever reason.

You can't always get a read on a guy by watching the games, especially if they spend most of their time on the bench. I've seen Lance in person a few times this year -- at a Clippers open practice and 2 Clippers/Kings games. My impression from everything I've seen this year is that he looks to me like a guy who's more interested in goofing around than in playing basketball. He's got some potential for sure, but personally I wouldn't make a trade for him.

Please no Rudy Gay trade. Keep our core and let them play. Too many moves and chemistry not being fully built. I slowly see the team gelling and MAYBE a confident Ben mclemore forming while Rudy was out with injury

I don't think Vlade will trade Gay for the sake of doing it. The only way I see Vlade trading Gay is if what we are getting in return makes sense both in the long and short term. In other words a #2 scorer who helps the play off push this year and is also a long term piece for us!

It certainly won't be for the sort of deal that 90% of this boards is suggesting (i.e. Get rid off Gay for solid players but not necessarily for someone who is genuine #2 scorer and can create his own shot!

Maybe. I haven't watched him this season. We've only played them once so far and I missed that game. In the past I'd say he was a good defender, not a great one. But if he's improved as much defensively as he has offensively, he'd be right up there.

There is a poster on real-gm that claimes to have an inside-source in the organization. As it turned out, he broke the Philly trade before the media knew and he also talked about the interest in Rudy and Marco a few weeks ago. I don't know if he just got lucky or if he has real insider knowledge.
Today he said the Lakers proposed us D. Russel and Hibbert for Rudy, Koufos and Butler.
Again, I don't know if this is true. But I just wanted to know everyone's opinion on this: would you take that deal?

Hibbert is awful. Russel ....I don't know....not as good as I thought he was going to be. Gay is a very good SF. Koufos is a good backup center. That trade is a non-starter in talks.

I wouldn't take it. Hibbert is (inexplicably) a waste of space at this point in his career though he does come saddled with a 15.5 million dollar expiring deal. So we'd get a mulligan on the 4 years we gave Koufos and we'd swap Rudy for a young scorer on a rookie deal. Seems sensible on the surface, but it's not a win-now move and the team is set up in every other way to make a push for the playoffs. On top of that, D'Angelo Russell has emerged for me as one of the most unlikable young players in the league. He had one good year at Ohio State before flaming out in spectacular 3 for 19 fashion against Arizona in the round of 32. Since getting drafted by the Lakers he carries himself with an air of entitlement that is beyond his years. If the Lakers are indeed trying to unload that baggage at the earliest opportunity, I wouldn't be surprised. What would that tell you if they trade their #2 overall pick in his rookie year for 29 year old Rudy Gay? I don't see it happening but if they actually proposed that trade? Run away. Run far away.

And we would have huge amount of cap space next year, I think something about 35-40 mil. Wow. So we could try to sign Ryan Anderson to make up for Rudy's production, resign Rondo and sign a defensive minded back up 3.

But then I asked myself if I would trade Russel for Gay if I were the Lakers. And the answer is no. So there has to be a reason why the Lakers would to that trade and it would be really important to know why. Is he just clashing with Byron Scott? Or are their some deeper problems with him that are not as easily fixed? And as you said, this is clearly not a win-now move so Vlade may be hesistant to pull the trigger since his contract ends at the end of the year.

I can't see the Lakers looking to get Rudy for Russel. They are nowhere near competing. They'd most likely want someone much younger for him.

I would not, but the thing is, I have never been enamored with D'Angelo Russell, and long had him tagged as the worst of the high lottery picks. I watch him, and I just don't see the potential greatness, and you should always be able to see it at least in flashes.

But, BUT, this is the #2 pick in the draft you are talking about. What is the thing that Cuz has never truly had, that Shaq always had? A full on #2 star. Penny, Kobe, Wade. Reke was halfway there, IT wanted to be, Rudy is a pale imitation, but the true second star/All Star guard/forward? And so what if I'm wrong about Russell. I don't like him. Think he's cocky with an ego writing checks his game can't cash. But he's been getting better, and his game was always going to be about subtlety and feel, which if you have them can make you a star while a crude super run n jumper like Ben just can't get there.

And then there's Hibbert, who's real value comes in him being a giant expiring contract, thus giving us major cap room.

I don't believe in Russell, and if the Lakers seriously proposed this deal then they do not either. We've dumped enough of our own lottery flops and seen them go on to prove their flopness to know to beware in this situation. But if I'm wrong and you were going to get Cuz his Kobe out of the deal, while simultaneously clearing massive caproom...

If true this is very intriguing. Russell may have issues but the kid is only 19. With him and the cap space....damn. I think Russel is going to be very good soon. He's got all star potential and his ego is a necessary thing to be truly great.

This could very well be . I have absolutely no idea if what he claimes is true or not and I can see why you are skeptical. But nevertheless I find it very interesting to talk trades etc and see what other posters opinions are on those matters

I don't think this trade is realistic.
But I do like D'Angelo Russel. His biggest plus is, that he understands the pick&roll and already has some kind of inbetween game going. Of course he is not a great athlete, his ballhandling is nothing special and he lacks strength, but he is confident, knows how to get his shot, knows how to get open and is very patient for a rookie, when doing so.

There still would be some concerns, how a combo guard like Russel fits with a ball dominant true PG like Rondo. When you play Russel strictly off the ball, you waste his potential.

If we could find a team to take Rondo as a expiring deal (Suns since Booker/Warren could benefit playing with a pass first PG while they develop for the next 30 games) there's a 3 way deal we could do to get Teague/Bazemore/Tucker/Scott in while the Hawks Gay/Ben/Price and Suns get Rondo to clear cap space next year and move some contracts they might not want.

I really like Kent/Teague in particular Jeff since he's on a 2 year deal, I just don't like how limited Rondo is in terms of players you can surround him with, Teague has shown he can play with two PGs and a legit SG.
