Kings make offer to Iguodala

unless he was made aware of this in the meeting. Told look we have to do this to be able to get some ppl around you. are you on board? just hope we don't get boozered.
This could be possible, would make sense too. I mean, why would Tyreke come out of the meeting feeling positive and now the Kings renounce him?

The only way to do both (yes, it's still possible) would be to amnesty Salmons (that gets us $7.5M in cap relief) and trade MT23 to somebody while getting back only about $4M. (Alternately, any other trade that clears us about $4M...you can imagine up the possibilities. For instance IT + Outlaw for a second round pick would possibly be close enough to do both.)

So it's not impossible, and given that we clearly went to Tyreke last night with serious intentions of keeping him...I'd just say that it's too early to panic. Especially when the deal is just the right size to fit Tyreke's NO offer sheet while amnestying Salmons and trading IT/Outlaw (a decent package, just for IT). Don't fret just yet.
I am going to assume PDA has a plan or otherwise this makes little sense. It would hurt us to have to renounce Tyreke and then sign Iggy. That's ridiculous. I'm glad you have a grasp of this as I kinda have a grasp and see it as doable. I think the first year on Iggy's contract is close to $12.25 mil but I don't really know how to calculate it. C'mon help an old man out. :)

Errrr, if we renounce him he is a free agent and his salary would have to fit under the cap. Am I right? This makes no sense.
I dont think so, we just couldnt match to keep. Other teams that have unrestricted free agents can still sign them and go over, or am I wrong?

If true, welcome to mediocrity. No caproom to sign anyone else of impact and $14 million a year tied up in a role player. The Cadillac of role players for sure, but a role player nonetheless.

if somehow Iggy can start at 12.5 mil and Tyreke can start at 9.6 mil we could do it with salmons amnestied. we would be right at the 58 mil mark.

Its not like the team will be in salary cap hell for a long time. They have moveable pieces, and even if they dont move anyone, a lot of the dead money comes off the books after next season .

4/56 is not too bad at all... I'll take it, if the plan is to resign Evans as well. WOw I am more excited than ever to be a Kings fan! :D
The only way the team has the caproom for this contract is to renounce Tyreke and let him walk.

MAYBE Denver would be open to a sign-and-trade which would open caproom to sign Iguodala without renouncing Evans but otherwise Tyreke is gone.

Don't use that phrase!

But seriously, I think that the "Cadillac of role players" is exactly the best the Kings can hope for in free agency at this time. They're banking on the star power growing from within, and getting the veteran defender and facilitator to lead the locker room. I think I'm largely OK with this.

C'mon guys let's be optimistic. PDA is a salary-cap specialist, he must have something on mind. Plus, it's not like we have ever seen this FO deal with free agents before, so they will be unpredictable this off season. WHo knows what he has in mind..

Overpaid.. but there might be a plan here. Maybe management truly believes Reke can not play pg or sf in this league for a contending team, who knows

The first year is around $11.5 mil, not $14 mil. Each year increases at 4.5%. I cannot for the life of me believe that PDA doesn't have a plan for freeing up cap space like trading for next year's draft pick or something of that order. Makes me really wonder if we signed IT. If we did, that was a mistake. It cut out $1 mil to play with. I think we can get into striking distance. Tyreke may want $11 or as Jason Jones says, $12 mil (????) but there is nothing that dictates what he will take if he has loyalty to the Kings.

Well with the comments about wanting reke after meeting with Iggy. i'd say there is a plan by PDA and company and we are getting both. we will all figure out this plan in the next days few days or a week or so.

This is the point. We always talk about salary deals with the number mentioned being the average over 4 years. In reality, the first year is considerably lower. The only number that is crucial is Iggy's contract and then how we free up cap space to make room.

14M per for a role player who can't take over game, get his own shot or get to the rim that much? 14M for 4 years for a guy who's near 30 and likely declines in the next couple years?

That's too much even if we keep Reke. If Reke walks however that was a huge mistake and a terrible deal.

I get why some of you are freaking out about losing Reke. But comon... the new regime said they were going to be aggressive and they are. They've got my trust at this point because everything they have done so far has been so anti- "maloof era" kings. Keep it coming!

But he still provides a veteran figure to a very young team, good defense, and covers up the SF spot we've been needing for so long. And he has playoff basketball experience, so if we do make it with him under contract, eh can help out the younger guys who have never experienced playoff basketball.

And we have to overpay to bring big names here, remember? ;)

Being aggressive in and of itself isn't a positive or a negative. It's where that aggression is directed and the outcome of said aggression.

As long as they don't give away the star power to get this aging Cadillac.

At 34 yrs of age I will eat my hat if Iggy is worth $16mil. he doesn't have to slide much for that thing to approach worst contract in the league status. Don't believe me? Last year he averaged 13.5pts 5.3reb 5.4ast on .454 shooting, .317 from the three point line. + Defense of course. But just a little sink, just a minor one, and that's 12 4 and 4. One significant injury and it could be 10 4 and 4.

My guess is that they're more keen on developing Cousins, and think someone like Iguodala will have his trust and will keep him in line. But who knows?

http://hoopshype.com/salaries/sacramento.htm

At the present we have $51,000,000 in salaries including Tyreke's and Ben's cap hold. If the salary cap is $58,000,000 we need to free up roughly 5 million to sign Iggy assuming the first year on his salary is $12 mil. Amnestying Salmons would do it. The major point is all we need to do is free up cap space to sign Iggy and the amnesty should do it. Tyreke can be signed using the Bird exception. We always can sign draft picks if we are over the salary cap.

We would use two exceptions.

I must be wrong but they make sense. These figures are rough but are close.

I am not going to go into full bore funeral mode yet.

basically after the 2.4 mil for maclemore. we are at 44 mil owed salary. amnesty salmons and drom 7.58 mil that puts us at 36.42. Salary cap set at a reported 58.5 mil so 58.5 - 36.42 comes to 22.08 to be split between Iggy and reke in some way shape or form. 11.5 starting and 10.5 starting should work. still not sure about Isaiah situation or like you said another 1 mil cleared up.
