The Utah Game & The Next Two Months...

I just want to see the shot attempts of Hawes and Thompson to go WAY up. This is the time for them to get their low post game down. Hoist away! Their shot attempts should go up at least 7 a game. Let's try to work from the INSIDE out. The last thing I want to see is Beno, Noc, Casspi, Tyreke or whomever coming down the floor and hoisting away without getting it to the big men. If Tyreke (or Beno) can penetrate and dish to a big man, fine. Otherwise, set it up and get it to Hawes or Thompson.

Michael Jordan hit less than 8 three pointers per season for his first 4 years in the NBA. I guess he shouldn't have tried to play SG, since he sucked (.157) at outside shooting?

All Evans has to do is to learn to make a layup without getting it blocked. I bet he can do that.

If he can make his layups and improve his outside shot to 45 to 47 percent shooting, I don't care where he plays. As long as its for us. Let him play center for all I care. Well, maybe not center..:)

Really hope the Kings come out with a lot of energy in this game!

They will have to play their A+ game and the Jazz would have to really have an off game for the Kings to win IN Utah. I am not looking for wins anymore. With Martin in the shop for 8+ weeks, I just want to see good effort and continuity among the Kings players. Even if they play well and lose, I will be happy.Lets face it, without Martin, the Kings offense will not be as dynamic. They were already having issues scoring WITH Martin. I think our defense will improve with Martin out, but where are all those baskets going to come from with Martin out? It is going to be great to see our rookies get more run, but no one expects them to win with the roster the Kings have active now. That's not to say I wont be rooting for them to win, but I don't get angry anymore when they lose. It's all part of the youth/growth process. 2010 free agency and draft and perhaps the Kings can put together a roster that can have a chance at the 8th seed. Next Year...

He doesn't need anybody to set him up -- that's the star potential. If you need somebody to set you up, you're not a star. You're a dependant on a star. But reke can get hiw own shot off whenever he wants to, and as far as can be told against anybody at his position. He doesn't need a PG to do that for him. What he needs to do is figure out how to finish things off after cdreatingthose shots. Whetehr you create your shot yourself or have your PG do it for you, if you can't hit the shot and finsih things, its all for naught.

Absolutely dead on.. It wouldn't hurt if the people he set up would hit their shots either. But your right. He doesn't need anyone to set him up. He was a pretty good finisher in college, so I think he's just going through the natural adjustment to the speed of the NBA. I think we tend to forget sometimes that the so called scrub sitting at the end of the bench was, in many cases, the star of his college team. It just takes a while to adjust to the level of talent in the NBA. In truth, he's adjusting very well for a 19 year old. Or is it 20 now?

If 6' Parker can finish with his layups I have hope for 6'6 Evans. Getting to the basket is most of the battle and the kid is a natural at it. Kinda lame that he doesnt dunk, but if he starts puttin up 20+ pt games on good FG% I wont complain how he does.

Its goofy that people are already bashin our rookie isnt it? All the haters should look at Wade's first month in the league. He wasnt so hot right out the gates either.

Take a look at Kobe's first two years.. Nash wasn't god's gift his first year. Or his second, or his third. It do take time!

I should again note that whatever tendencies SGs or PGs traditionally have, one thing that many of the very best of them do not do, or did not do coming in, was shoot the ball. It might be the trait LEAST attached to stardom of any I can think of -- best SF? LeBron. Weakness coming in? Shooting. Still his biggest weakness. Best SGs: Kobe, Wade. Weakness coming in? Shooting. Wade still isn't a three point shooter. Best PG? CP3. Weakness coming in? Shooting. Still only decent from 3pt land. I've already mentioned Parker (three time ring wearing Parker), Jordan as a young player (6 rings by end), Magic Johnson as a young player (5 rings), Drexler...the list just on and on of HOF talents, alltime stars, and their great weakness? Shooting. And all of them, being HOF players, got better at it. A few of them even became good at it. But it was the last thing to develop -- their star power came from their other traits. And if you have one, at whatever position, desired positional traits are almost irrelevant. You have a star. That trumps all positonal concerns.

And you forgot Jason Kidd.. Oh wait, he still can't shoot. Your right though. Especially about Wade. I think he only took around 8 three point shots all year, and most of those were because the clock was running down. Parker was a terrible shooter when he came into the league. Kobe was very inconsistant. You could even throw Karl Malone into the fray if you wanted. Absolutely horrible freethrow shooter and no outside shot at all. Magic never had a jump shot in his entire career. He shot a set shot and became very accurate with it. All you have to do is shoot well enough that they have to guard you. If and when Tyreke reaches that point, he becomes unguardable.

If and when Tyreke reaches that point, he becomes unguardable.

... maybe tone it down a bit? I understand being excited but this kid has a long ways to go, and even then, "unguardable" status is only given to very few players. Unless that sentence is you HOPING. If it's STATING, then my previous statement applies.

I agree on most of what you say. I just think that he's not finishing some shots because he's forcing it - he's trying for layups when a 10-footer is called for. Once he gets his mid-range game, then his productivity will skyrocket, but his layup attempts probably go down and his finishing percentage for layups will go up.

El Correcto! A little spanish for you.:D Right now the league has done its homework on Tyreke. Their packing the middle on him when he drives. When he develops a pull up jumpshot that will all stop. Its a simple process in the NBA. They find out what you can do, or, what you like to do, and they take it away from you. Or make it a lot more difficult. Magic used to say that he spent every offseason adding a new wrinkle to his game to compensate for how teams were defending him. Tyreke is just starting. He has the commitment and the ability. All we need is the patience...;)

Yeah really, WTF is Westphal doing playing May?? Where is Casspi? Where is Udoka? Youth movement coach, youth movement!

Edit: Sean May stinks!

Can the Kings play any defense?

Not very well, but I will say that I've seen at least 3 Utah shots that were well defended and ended up with fade aways that are impossible to defend.

i.e. Utah is hitting some impossible shots. They can't miss.
