Kings Introduce Garcia to Sacramento
The Sacramento Kings introduced their newest player this afternoon, as Francisco Garcia paid his first visit to the Capital City after being drafted by the Kings on Tuesday.
"This is what I've been working for my whole life," Garcia told reporters.
Garcia is an early-entry junior from the University of Louisville. Basketball scouts tagged the 6-foot 7-inch tall Garcia as a strong long-ball shooting guard with passing skills. They reported he's a good roving defender, able to both steal and bat away the ball. The 23-year-old Garcia is originally from the Dominican Republic. Today he said Kings were his favorite team and the draft experience was "intense."
"After my name was called for my favorite team, it was great," Garcia said. "Now that I'm here and meeting everybody, I feel even better."
With the speculation that Kings guard Cuttino Mobley will become a free agent, Sacramento appears to be looking for another shooter to complement point guard Mike Bibby and small forward Peja Stojakovic.
"I think he fits in well. We're looking to obviously add some length to our team," said head coach Rick Adelman. "He's multi-position player. What I really like about is offensively he really helps his teammates be better."
Garcia said he learned to love the Kings while watching them play on television and playing for the team is a dream come true. "I used to love watching them play -- the way they pass the ball, the way they set screens and moving up the ball," Garcia said. "They run up and down the floor a lot. I kind of enjoy it."
