Why does Luke always try to run our crunch time offense through Harrison Barnes and Buddy Hield?

On that last play they finally just ran reset pick and roll. They ran middle, they got stopped, swing it to Buddy and run the side pick and roll. This is interesting because it's the battle of the death lineups.

I dunno, the last time there was a clear touch-and-rotation change I seem to recall somebody making an up-and-under layup in two tenths of a second and the NBA didn't want to hear about it.
That was before coach’s challenges were a thing though. What’s the point of having them if you’re only going to use them every time CoJo does a face plant?

I’m pretty sure the playoff talk is just posturing by the Kings to get Boston to cough up more assets for a Barnes deal. No human being with eyes would look at this team and think Luke Walton’s going to propel it to the postseason.

The hole is getting too deep at this point. Clocks ticking out. This team is going to be shambles until the deadline for sure. No team has as much trade chatter surrounding them whether true or not. This is hopeless on all sides ATM. Then with no moves, you're relying on Walton for in game decision making.

Man I can't wait until fans get the tingle of top pick potential only to watch it slide back to 8-12 again when Walton cleans up on the tankers the last few weeks. hahaha.

Is it fair to say that for all the 3's Buddy takes he hits very few we might consider "clutch"?

I don't even know that the concept of "clutch" applies in this case. Taking a rush shot when you're down by 5 with 18 seconds left in the game is an edge case, it's not really a fair measuring stick for "clutch-ness" in my opinion. He also didn't create the shot off the dribble nor was any kind of a play run to get him open. It's just backyard street ball we're playing at this point. It superficially resembles NBA basketball but trying to translate statistical correlations from this mess to legitimate NBA teams is probably not worth the effort.

He's been clutch throughout his career. Joerger goofed that one time he blew up on Buddy after Buddy saved his backside, but he drew up way better shots for him than Walton does. Walton designs these tricky multi-option plays off of insane movement to the left and right. You don't need these Reggie Miller style calls to get open any more. Just run a pick and roll and spread it. Goodness gracious.

MOD NOTE: Discussion of Marvin's latest injury has been moved to his latest injury thread. ...sigh...
