Kings-Heat swap?

In the Bee this morning an idea appears to have been discussed between Kings and Heat:

Miller and Kenny Thomas to Heat

Shawn Marion to Kings

Marion's deal is up this summer and would free up $19M for next step of rebuilding. He would normally be the starting SF and a major rebounder but knocking out Salmons at this point would be counter productive. Maybe play Marion at the 4 with Hawes and JT playing the 5 and backing up the 4. Marion would want to showcase his talents for his upcoming free agency to maximize his value. So we should see some more entertaining ball.

Tough call as we know Salmons doesn't play well off the bench. Donte green is hopefully maturing in the wings and it throws Hawes into the breech as a starter at the 5. JT would have to be his backup even tho' he seems to have played the 4 almost exclusively so far.

Would it help or hurt the Kings development of the "kids"? IMHO it would help by throwing them into the game in "make-or-break" situation.

Would it help the Kings this summer in the draft and free agency market? Absolutely!

Hmmmmmmmm.............

If this happened we'd actually have some significant cap room this offseason.

Right now, according to Hoopshype, the Kings have $66,368,475 committed next year.

Take away Brad Miller, Kenny Thomas, Shareef (injury retirement) and waive Mikki Moore, and by my calculations you're down to about $36 million. Salary cap should be around $58 million, leaving about $22 million in cap room.

And that's significant.

I like this deal. We have a better chance of being a player this offseason rather than next.

Udrih - Martin - Salmons - Marion - Hawes/Thompson

This is the trade I would be hoping for. We would be one of the few teams active in the free agent market this off season. Some of the players available according to "Hoopshype", so take it for what its worth.

Pt guards:

Rajon Rondo - Restricted
Rafer Alston - Unrestricted
Marquis Daniels - Unrestricted
Jordan Farmar - Restricted
Luke Ridnour - Unrestricted
Earl Watson - Unrestricted
Steve Blake - Unrestricted
Sergio Rodriguez - Restricted

Others of interest:

Carlos Boozer - Unrestricted
Hedo Turkoglu - Unrestricted
Joe Johnson - Unrestricted
Anderson Varejao - Unrestricted
Marcus Camby - Unrestricted
Mike Miller - Unrestricted

There are others of course, and some with options, so the list could grow in what could become a better market.

Some interesting names there. Don't forget Marion of course. I like Rondo, Boozer, Turkoglu and Johnson.

Im not sure what it would take to steal Rondo away from boston, but I would be all over that if I were petrie .. There has to be some number the celtics wont be able to match .. he really is exactly what we need, a pass first defensive minded point guard who is still very young .. if we had enough cap space to grab Rondo and 1 of Boozer/Varajao/ Turkoglu, I'd be pumped.

Rondo/Beno/Brown
Martin/Cisco
Salmons/Cisco/Greene
Boozer/Jt
Hawes/JT

that could be a top 5 seed in the west with room to improve ..

Its not going to happen, but the thought will put me in a good mood for now :)

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

No one in there right mind (in Miami) would ever do this!! And on our side, we would never be that lucky!!!!

If the Kings are just moving to free up cap space, they should go ahead and trade Miller and K9 to NYK for Marbury. At least that will get it done.

Better yet! Trade Moore, Miller, and K9 for Marbury and Rose! This gives NYK an addition $94 coming off the books in 2010 and gives the Kings relief now. Plus, Curry appears to be a hot mess, so they could probably use more stability at the C.

I've been reading the Heat forums and they are all for this deal. They need a true center and Brad is the perfect guy, plus he expires in '10.

The Heat make sense because they should be in the playoffs and a Miller/KT salary shouldn't put them over the tax next year.

Believe it or not, the Knicks might actually not be over the tax line next year if they let Marbury and Rose expire. If they did this trade they'd be paying 20m for their salaries + 20 in tax next year. For a team not even making the playoffs why would they spend 40m on Miller/KT? They wouldn't

I wouldn't mind, at this point, doing this trade and then cutting Marion right away. And if he wants, he can go right back to the Heat and sign with them in 30 days, Stackhouse style. We don't have any use for him, and he wouldn't be in our plans beyond this season. Certainly wouldn't want him here contributing to a couple extra wins that we don't need.

If you look at just the players involved, I think the heats are getting the better end of the deal. Marion's mental toughness is all gone now that he realize he won't get the max contract (or anything close) that he wants. His heart is not in any of the games. Miller is an immediate upgrade for the Heats that uses the 6'8" haslem at center. Miller can still play, can fit into their system with his passing and IQ. Kenny Thomas is a bust at almost $9 mil, but if you forget about that part, he can still give thme 10-15 hard mins a game.

For the Kings, it comes down to what they will do with the cap space coming 1 yr earlier. Will they package it with their high draft pick coming this yr and make a big move like Boston? :p

Nah.. Wouldn't be because I don't think there would be much chemistry, and Rondo is over performing being on a team with three all-stars.

My completely uneducated guess would be that Miami asked for Miller and Salmons, Petrie said no, and now Miami is waiting to see whether they can get Moon along with O'Neal from Toronto, or whether they want O'Neal at all (based on his health).

Hopefully, come Feb, Toronto would have backed out and Riley would be willing to pull the trigger for Brad and Kenny. That would, of course, have to be immeidately followed (or perhaps preceded by) a Salmons deal.

Not necessarily...I think we could have a starting lineup of Beno, K-Mart, Salmons, Thompson, Hawes and bring Marion off the bench. Of course i wouldn't mind trading Salmons and starting Marion at the SF. I think the long rumored trades like this one will rear their heads again come trade deadline time and something will get done along these lines.....hopefully. I'm wondering if we should pass up the possiblity of getting 1 bonafide star in 2010 and instead go for Hedo/Tayshaun + Tj Ford. Ultimately thats what I see happening being that most superstars aren't going to want to play here. Would Hedo/Tayshaun + Ford + 2009 top 3 pick be enough to get us back to the top thoe?

I doubt there is any deal in the works between the Kings and the Heat. Just doesn't make sense. The Heat based their team on defense and athleticism so they're after Miller? Who is really just a glorified Matt Bullard at this point in his career? Just don't see it happening.

Also, I don't see why the Raptors won't trade O'Neal. With the way Bargnani is playing and their big hole at SF, they'd be completely nut not to take Marion. If all that's standing in the way is Jamario Moon as some reports said, then this deal between the Heat and the Raptors are as good as done. I think the ball is in the Heat's court. It's up to them whether they want to take a chance on the broken down Jermain O'Neal. The Raptors (and the Kings for that matter) are already on board.

The big question is why Miami does this. JO has a player option for $23M next year. With Moon this could put Miami well over the Luxury Tax, just to get a 10 & 10 center with medical problems for one year. Toronto on the other hand gets rebounding and scoring, so I think they'd jump on this without thinking.

Obviously, JO is better than Miller right now, but without K9 in the deal, I'd have to think that Miami would take Miller @ $12M vs. JO @ $23M.

how about miller/beno/douby for marion.... then trade salmons/bobby for wally... that would be heavenly.... all that capspace and all of our deadwood would be gone... it actually helps all teams involved... well i dont think that miami would want beno after having banks and smush... maybe we could trade for banks by throwing in shelden.... but that trade could put the cavs over the top.... lebron wouldnt have to guard the opposing teams best perimeter player and salmons always plays well against the lakers...

the waive moore in the offseason and trade thomas to the bulls for hinrich.... we'd be under the cap and we would be sending them a expiring contract and a trade exception like bobcats did in the jrich trade...

hinrich
martin
greene/garcia
thompson
hawes

we could just sign or trade for a free agent sf in the offseason...

I don't want JT coming off that starting PF spot. The more he plays the better he gets. give it the rest of this year and next year and JT could be better than Boozer. I don't want to stunt that growth by sending him back to the bench. I don't care all that much about picking up a starting PF this offseason i.e. Boozer. First and formost we need a pg then we need to see how Hawes developes to see what we need to do at the center spot. I would like for Kevin to get better on defense. I just don't know what to do about Salmons. Can't tell with Greene because he gets no time.

I'm not a Boozer fan. Guy is way too injury prone and doesnt play a lick of D. He's burly yes, but I agree....JT could end up better. I'd rather have Millsap if we go after a PF. He's undersized a bit at 6' 8, but he makes up for it in bruisin'

milsap will get a fat contract and then revert back to being a mediocre player.... i pray that the kings are not the team to give him that paycheck.... look at beno and moore... we dont need another scrub making bank on this team...

Actually Millsap always beasted...It's not like he's upping his play because he's in a contract year. The dude just got limited minutes because he was playing behind Boozer.

Although to be honest I wouldnt really be down with giving him a fat contract either. I'd just rather it be him than Boozer. I feel that JT can be our double double PF though...So its kinda moot.

It would take some patience...But I would love to see this team hold off until 2011. Make a max move when all the other teams are near or at the cap from 2010. Durant on the Kings would make me happy. Guy is ballin, and hasnt even scratched the surface of what he can do. None of the 09 FAs really jump out at me. They're all kinda mediocre or too old.

I'd do this move just to clear up some minutes for Hawes though. And I'd love a follow up trade to move Salmons as well, that way Marion can play SF and wont take time from JT.
