[Game] Kings @ Grizzlies - 1/30/16 - 5 PT, 8 ET

Absolutely none. They've been down this road time and time again, they show up in spurts when they are down big and fall short. It's a cycle that continues to spin in one motion without ever fully stopping. False hope.

I feel this way too, but it doesn't matter what we think. Only way this changes is if Vlade decides he's seen enough.

Why couldn't we play with this effort & heart from tip off?

It ain't the effort sorry to tell you. This team gets killed on the same spots on the floor every night. They win games due to teams not being able to make the open shots they are given every night by this defensive scheme. Its laughable and borderline criminal the miususe of this roster. Best big man in the game but hey, lets push it up and down the court. Hey we have excellent paint protectors, lets sag off of shooters to help the paint.

I just don't see this group ever figuring it out on defense.
Vlade needs to make a change. Please find some one who actually gives a flying **** about the other side of the ball. I feel like I'm taking carzy pills watching these ***holes give up 3 after 3 out there every damn night.

It's not effort I can tell you that. The Kings get killed on the same spots of the floor every game. What does that tell you?

It's not effort? Isn't defense in general about effort from the beginning and then setting a scheme in place from there? It's not one or the other, it's both. That we can agree on.

Effort can only make up for so much. If you are placed on the wrong spots on the floor no effort in this world can help you close out on a shooter fast enough when you are told to sag so far in the paint.

Had enough Karl. Thought they were making some sort of zombie-stitched Kangz work with his systems, but it was really just Cousins dragging the team along to wins and WCS getting playtime. Neither is happening now and things have reverted.

It took some Herculean efforts by Cousins for that 5 game winning streak to happen. The style of play Karl wants does not match this roster.

Karl is simply past his prime. I hope I'm wrong for the sake of this team. This off-season will be very interesting, to say the least.

Is Rudy a rookie or a 9 year vet? Because time and score (three points behind with 35 seconds to play) is enough to know you should not foul even if you cannot hear what the players and coach are yelling at you. It is disconcerting to think our second/third best player is so mentally challenged in a situation like that.

Boogie choked when we closed the lead to two with two forced shots on consecutive possessions: a lay-up attempt at a bad angle (force!) followed by a quick three point shot with 20 seconds on the shot clock on next possession (force!). It is poor judgement when we had Grizzlies on the ropes. Boogie tried to resort to hero ball and I have seen enough of it to last his career.

And Rondo was lazy with his passes and the Grizzlies don't allow lazy passes. It was only dominating them on the boards 51-32 and 18 offensive rebounds that allowed it to be close.

Say what you want about Marc Gasol but the dude is a beast he might not put up stats like Drummond/Cuz/Howard but his IQ is higher than all 3 combined and when it comes to helping your team win he is probably the best out all of them, should have been a All Star over the sub 500. guys who made it in.

Another crap performance by the team only got back into once Memphis thought the game was over giving us more false hope in a season filled with it.

If the Kings do intend to build around Cousins the next two best players have to better all round players than Rondo and Rudy.

Don't get confused just because we make a guy look like a hero. Gasol ain't all that anymore.

We didn't even make him look good that was Jeff Green I'm just speaking in general his combination of size/IQ is super impressive.

So that 5 game winning streak we wnt on has pretty much been undone! Back to the pack and relying on others to drop games while we keep dropping ours.

We are very intimidating so long As Cuz is pouring in 35-12 every night. ;)

Otherwise, well in the 4th was the first time in about 2 weeks that Gay, Collison and Casspi actually gave us games, so..maybe. More likely though this team really is bizarrely erratic and basically hasn't shown sustainable growth. A particularly erratic .500 team, frustratingly so because the problem appears to be from the neck up. Coming out this way game after game...such a good thing I am not in that locker room, I'd be throwing around magic words in combinations and getting in fights.

I think they're erratic because they're getting little to no consistent direction from their head coach. I'm beginning to understand why DeMarcus went berserk in the locker room.

Looks like the players have zoned out George Karl... atleast Ben is playing well
I guess this could be our biggest take-away... progression in Ben. He played good D tonight.

Going back and looking, his man only scored 1 FG on him in the entire game. It was a VC 3pter.
Very impressive from that standpoint.

He did a really decent job in helping down low. He never sunk in deep and only came over once he saw the big in their scoring motion.

I think he needs to do a better job stopping penetration though. He also fouled twice which I believe led to FTs.

Make no mistake, the 4th quarter come back was more on them failing and bailing us out than on something we could be proud of. They still scored 29 points. This was a clear blow out game.

I won't go through this game again, so I won't be able to disprove your point.
I personally felt, that the team had a different kind of energy in the 4th.

But ultimately it doesn't really matter, if the defensive struggles are a coaching thing or a lack of effort. The fact remains, that teams get warmup jumpers everytime they face the Kings. The Grizzlies are not a great shooting team, but even Lee, Carter and Green will knock down jumpshot after jumpshot, if you leave them on an island.

I just can't believe, that any coach would want this kind of defense by design. Players are guarding empty space, are ballwatching, blow assignments, fall asleep and nobody really goes hard on every play.
You need a very grim sense of humor, when watching us defend.
DC guarding Green fullcourt, only to have Acy step right out of Greens way to allow the easy layup?? Cmon now.
3 Kings guarding 2 Grizzlies on one side of the floor, while Green literally could have ordered a burger and a beer before launching his 3 from the opposite wing? By design?
Cuz, Willie AND Acy all reacting to Chalmers driving to the hoop, only to leave Green (Acy's assignment on the wing) open for another 3? Karl's fault?
Rudy caught ballwatching and not even trying to fight over a soft brush screen from Gasol, only to cause a 2vs1 situation for Ben, who needs to pick his poison leaving Green or Lee wide open for a 3? Not an effort thing?

And this are only the biggest defensive mistakes I as a fan noticed during this game.
I hate watching this kind of crap.
I just want a team, that competes on the defensive end.
