That I believe is it in a nutshell. He does have a track record of bringing in "problem children" and having them make a 180 degree change in attitude.

So often a player is given a label that no longer fits. It takes the rare ability to see thru the smoke to see what is there. I would not be surprised if there isn't many major changes but rather one. I guessed in the ultimate prediction thread who I thought it may be if that was the case. I am probably wrong on that player, but what the heck, no lasting harm.
Shareef's problem child rep is pretty new. What he's got is a dumb/soft/not talented enough problem.

Threre's one spot where I actually HOPE the Maloofs do restrain Geoff -- Rick's not the only guy who's instincts are offensive, and a Shareef/Brad frontline is about as bad defensively as Brad/Kenny. Total softy/whitebread player. Was really surprised by his whining about having to play SF in Portland, because the irony is that he was better as a SF where his softness could be covered up and he was actually more physical than his opponents.

I do not know if he is a good fit or not as in for the better.

Hasn't he either played on either bad or dysfunctional teams? Could that not affect effort on the other end? What would playing in a good system on a hopefully winning team do for him?

However, even if it's not him (and my guessing him just about rules him out!:p ) I still would not be surprised if there is only one major acquistion made. I am of the opinion that this "remold" will take longer than this off season.

The more I think about it the more it's exciting to think about possibly trading KT/Skinner/Corliss for expiring contracts. Deals like KT for Al Harrington, for example.

Minus those salaries, and with Peja not pickin up his option, we'd have some 22.2 million committed. Granted, that's with only Bibby, Miller, and Special K under contract. Assuming the cap is at a minimum, around 45 million, we'd have a considerable chunk of cap space (over 22 million). We could drop the max on Amare, and still have 8-10 million to fill out the rest of the lineup. We could even resign Peja for more because we'd have his bird rights, so we'd have the extra 8-10 for the bench, then resign Peja for a reasonable price (or spend all 8-10 on Tayshawn Prince). This is really intriguing, it just means we'd likely suck next year.

Guys like Amare are restricted though, and everybody knows they are max players. Throw in a successful team, and its almost inconceivable that their home team wouldn't match and be able to retain. Unless you're L.A. or somebody who can offer lifestyle/endorsement money etc., just don't see a superstar for a elite team leaving to come to Sacto. Needs to be some disappointment, some conflict, some greed fro more fame/attention etc. Hard to beat what Amare has in Phoenix right now.

True, but what if hypothetically Nash begins to wear down in another year, or they get swept by SA this year and dissapoint next? Or what if he tires of playing center, or they aren't as good next year if they lose/or overpay for Joe Johnson? What if we finally get a new arena with plenty of player amenities underway?

I'll admit, it's a huge risk but there are a lot of factors that could go both ways. Amare isn't the only option either. If Larry Brown leaves, which it looks like he will, what will Detroit look like in a year. Will Ben and/or Tayshawn want out?

I don't think there is a very good track record for teams rebuilding 'cause they got lots of salary cap. Those teams tend to have to overpay just to get a FA to come. Think of the salaries of certain members or former members of the King's fans complained about the team overpaying for. The Kings once had to pay extra just to keep a player and to simultaneously develop a reputation that management was for real and serious. Too long and too ugly.

This is true.
