Kings current TV deal $11 million per year !

Sam Amick just reported http://nbaconfidential.wordpress.co...-and-an-inside-look-at-anaheims-honda-center/

My overview of the Kings’ situation ran on ESPN.com today, so be sure to check that out. One quick point relating to the TV rights element: the Kings’ current deal, I’ve been told on good authority, is worth approximately $11 million annually with Comcast.
So like I said there is no way they are getting 3x or 4x more on a TV deal. That puts them at the Lakers level and more.

Even if they get a $15 million dollar a year deal thats still only $4 million more than now. That doesnt even cover an MLE contract.

Okay...SOMETHING has to give here! If they're not making anything substantially more on TV...and won't have the monopoly on advertising or ticket sales...WTF gives guys?!? WHY exactly are you moving???

I am not sure where you are getting your numbers, but the Lakers deal is worth roughly $150 Million per year. $11 Million seems paltry.
The Laker deal is enormous, as we all know...but with the figures we've heard about what $$$ will be left for them as the 3rd NBA team, in SoCal for a Kings TV deal with Fox West/KCAL, it SURELY can't be THAT much more than $11 million/yr., could it?!?

3 Billion/20 years = 150 Million/year. 11 million is nothing. There is no way the Kings regional TV rights should be worth 1/15th of the Lakers. The Kings are getting jobbed.

I've thought about that too. Here's some guesses:

* Samueli will offer Maloofs personal loans for other ventures or at least introduce Maloofs to people that can assist them (its who you know that matters).

* Maloofs completely frustrated with City of Sacramento not being able to provide a new arena.

* Maloofs don't want to wait around for Sacramento economy to come back up. It will take years for Sacramento to pick up.

* A 'glass ceiling' for the franchise to earn more money in Sacramento.

* Maloofs feel they are no longer wanted in Sacramento by the general public.

* Chance of franchise to gain more value.

No arena and I think they are hoping for a quick influx of money to salvage the Palms.

This unfortunately is not relevant as the Kings will not get a media deal like the Lakers nor do I think anybody thinks that is possible in the next century or so. OK, OK, I exaggerate.

If the contract states that it drops 10% that's what they fell the ad dollars lose would be. So 10% of $150 = $15 million a year. Right about what the Maloofs would get in a TV deal. So it's only $4 million more than a contract that was signed 8 years ago. I bet they could get the same deal here in 2 years when the contract expires.

Look, Sam's a good reporter ... but I doubt it. The Kings buy the time and sell ads, and at least a 1/3 are for Arco events or the Palms ... that's their ads. So, unless Carl's Jr, the eye doctor, ect are laying down most of the 11 million ... I think Sammy may have got some bad info.

The Lakers current deal with Fox is about 30 million a year. That expires after next season. So if we believe Amick, it's going to cost Fox more than their current agreement with the Lakers to sign the Kings to a contract.

Riiiight...

Once again you are looking at it from a narrow view. They get money from all the ads, not just the ones during Kings games. So when the other regional games are on like college and the San Jose Sharks they get that too.

The Fox lakers deal is $34 million to be exact. That does not include their away games, which runs on KCAL. While I think their KCAL deal might be less than their Fox deal, it can't be too far off when they each get half the games (- national TV games). You are really looking at $34 mil + KCAL deal for the lakers.

$11 million is about twice as much as what I thought I had heard. Still probably below average, but probably not the worst TV deal in the NBA as was reported a few days ago by David Aldridge.

If the current deal is 34 mil per year why is comcast giving 150 per year? I'm guessing because when they signed the initial fox deal it was a lot of money. So could a Kings deal be worth more than 30?

LOL is this a joke? That is for 2 different tv networks featuring content all about the Lakers AND their games. The Kings tv rights would just be to play the games at nights. And right now before this time warner bs I believe the lakers were getting 30-40 million per year from FSN. So 11 million per year, to triple-quadruple that would be what the lakers are currently getting. There's no way the Kings deserve that in SoCal.

I think I remember reading that the current Sacramento TV deal expires after this year. Well, maybe Comcast Sports Net California better get off their butts and offer a bit more cash for the Maloofs to stay, because if not, what in the world are they going to broadcast for 6 months of the year?

Comcast is not the one giving the lakers $150 mil. Time Warner is.

The current Fox Sports deal with the lakers is $34 mil, which is only for the home games. The lakers have a separate deal with KCAL for their away games. So the current lakers total TV deal can be in the $60s million range.

Fox Sports already said publicly that they are "unhappy" because they offered a significant increase over their current deal and would give the lakers one of the top TV deals in all of sports. But the lakers still declined because they got $150mil/yr from TW.

What was the offer from Fox and KCAL? No one knows. I would assume its less than $100mil total.

If the Kings current deal is $11 mil for ALL the games not on national TV, then triple of that is $33 mil. Thats still less than what the lakers get from Fox sports just for their home games.
