[KINGS] Comments that don't warrant their own thread (Redux)

Eh, to me it's not so much about Davion the player. I'm a big believer in Davion's defensive talent (how could you not be?) but the issue is just simply getting him on the floor. Fox is minimum 33 a night. Huerter is 30 a night. Monk should be 25+. All of a sudden, we're out of guard minutes. And those top 3 have really established themselves as long-term core pieces imo. Davion hasn't yet.

So the idea is you flip Davion, who is fairly well stuck in a 10-15 MPG role for a wing/Forward in the vein of Vandy who potentially could be your long-term solution at the 4 and still give you that tremendous defensive boost. But even moreso because he's not trapped behind 3 other players on the roster.

Twslam suggested flipping him+Holmes for Jrich and Collins. While I like both players, that's not a good enough package right now to trade him. If Davion goes out, it should be for a core rotation piece we can count on for for the next 3+ years.
This is where I’m at too. I love me some Davion. And I think he’ll figure out how to be a contributor on offense eventually. But I also a live 3 & D wings.

I look at the form on his shots and see nothing wrong with the mechanics, unlike a lot of one-and-done guys who somehow get drafted into the NBA. Nice, smooth stroke on the long shots, with a good arch, good rhythm on the floater, and oftentimes sneaky-quick with the layups.

Give the guy time, he will learn how to score.

I'm not sure that I believe in the "Davion log jam" as much as I did in the "Hali log jam". Hali was clearly NBA starting material but just couldn't get the minutes he deserved with the guards that the Kings had, and while I suppose you can't say "something had to give", it sure made sense for something to give when the possibility of landing Sabonis came into play. Davion...I'm not sure he's an NBA starter stuck behind a soon-to-be (??!!) all-star. He may well just end up as a backup PG who can give you really great defensive minutes - something this team needs.

That doesn't make him untouchable. I'm just not convinced he's being wasted if he isn't moved. And while I do like the idea of acquiring Vandy, I'm not 100% sure that he fills as much of a need as Davion does. For this year, we have our starting forwards in Barnes and Keegan, with Trey backing things up while we typically like to go small at the 3 during backup minutes. For next year, are we going to bring Barnes back? Lyles? What about Vezenkov? Isn't Fox/Davion + Barnes/Murray/Trey-or-Vezenkov a better fit than Fox/??? + Barnes/Murray/Vandy/Trey-or-Vezenkov? If we were to say we were giving up on bringing Vezenkov over and set to let Trey walk, then Barnes/Murray/Vandy looks good...but again at the cost of a good backup PG. And do we really want to rely on 10-15 minutes of Delly in a run for the playoffs?

Again, I think people forget Davion was basically a 5th year senior when drafted. He's 9 months younger than Fox. You're not going to see some big jump from him. He did that in college against guys 3-4 years younger.

I don't even think he's a backup at this point, but only a defensive specialist. If he was 3-4 inches taller he would have a lot more value on the court. If Keon Ellis can run the offense and hit some shots then he would be an improvement off the bench with a little more offense and slight less defense.

Also, in the month of January, Davion was shooting 43.3% from three and 48.3% overall. This compares to Huerter at 37.2%/46.4%; Fox at 30.2%/50.7%; and Monk at 28.8%/39.5% (SLUMP!).

I know we all love Monk's personality and playmaking but he's very quietly nosedived down to 32% on the season from three point range. I'm sure you expect him to bounce back to around 40% where he's been the last two years, I do too, but what if he doesn't? At his current level of efficiency, is he really a long-term core piece that we can't afford to lose? I have just as many questions about Monk's long-term fit as Davion's. More in fact -- he's going to be more expensive (scoring always is) and doesn't bring much value on the defensive end when he's not scoring.

Haven't looked into his shooting slump, but I do know he's not getting nearly as many C&S opportunities or off DHO 3's as Huerter/Murray/Barnes are. Mostly because he's acting as the 3rd creator on the team; both shooting and scoring. He hit those 2 DHO 3's last night in the 4th quarter that I'm hoping he starts getting more of going forward. He needs to shoot better, but I'm willing to forgive a bit lower of a shooting % because of his current role and creation expected of him.

It is exciting to think what this offense can turn to if that 40% 3pt stroke returns though. I mostly think he'll find it; I'll put weight into those 650 3PA he's taken over the last 2 years is somewhat sticky in terms of his shooting talent

that’s interesting. one against Grizz, Nets and 3 against the Rockets. Don’t remember the other 3

Edit. Clippers and pacers I remember. Stil don’t know the last one but maybe Spurs?
Pacers, Clippers, Magic

Edit: I see that you added two of the other three to your original post, but that was done after I began to type up my response...The Magic was the other 20+ point win...:):):)

If the Kings would trade Davis for somebody I'd like very much if Keon Ellis would get some minutes. He's got the defense and his shot seems like it could at the very least be sufficient. So let's see him get minutes to find out/improve about his BBIQ and ball handling. Of all the players I've seen come out of the Kings' G league team, he is the most intriguing.

Right, but his career average is only 35% -- buoyed mostly by those two seasons (out of six) that he shot close to 40%. He's a streaky good shooter but his track record isn't elite. With shooting continuing to trend up, 35% may even be close to league average.

At his current iteration, he can be had for pennies on the dollar, especially relative to where the asking price was at the start of the year. That said, I think I pass. He needs the ball in his hands in order to be effective, and that takes away from Fox. I also don't know that we want a frontcourt of Simmons and Sabonis - I can't quite see it working.

That was a joke not a trade proposition.
