Kings call, but is Jackson listening?

Phil Jackson has no intentions of coming to Sac for the various reasons already mentioned. He will be the head coach of the Lakers next season. They already have a mega superstar to build upon. Do you think Buss will just sit around this off season?

yeah, and Phil and that "superstar" aren't exactly best friends. He's coached him before when he was on a better team. Phil's been there and done that. Leading another team to a championship would really cement his legacy as one of the best, if not *gasp* best coach of all time. Plus the triangle offense wouldn't work with the Lakers lineup.

Both Bibby and Miller are ideal for the triangle offense. Throw in this sign and trade(Mobley for Artest) and you have a pretty good starting line-up:

PG-Bibby
SG-Artest(yes he can play shooting guard)
SF-Peja
PF-Thomas/Skinner
C-Miller

And if the Kings can somehow make this magic happen, they would be on "the brink." But unfortunately, Mobley isn't worth very much at all. After all, we only had to give up an aged and injured doug christie for him (whom I liked much more than Mobley).

I'm not much of a PJ fan, think he's overrated, but if the Maloof's land him they also must be willing to make a heavy investment in the team over the cap to acquire premo players cause Phil won't coach just to have a job, he'll be out to make a point as to his stature and legacy and that will be all good for the team and fans.

i'm in favor of the move, not becuase i dislike rick ( i do like rick) , you just can't turn down the chance to get 9 rings if it's available.

then again, this could just be phil driving up the price for the lakers, further pissing us kings fans off.

I just don't think Phil would be interested unless GP has some major moves planned for this summer & let's Phil know about them. phil is used to coaching championship calibre teams, and we have a good team, but not even PJ is going to make this group of players championship worthy. We'll have to say how this plays out...

Of the teams in pursuit for PJ: Kings, Lakers, Knicks, Wolves, Blazers.... I think the Kings have the brightest future and most talent on their roster. If PJ wants the best team out of that group, he'd have to pick the Kings.

Of course he could decide to sit out or go where the highest offer is. If the Maloofs are really interested, I think they could put up a pretty nice offer.


This will be TDOS of change. I say go for PJ and a few big trades. Let's change this team around for the better.

Good point. That can only be a good thing for the future of the Kings. After a few years of trying to cut salary, getting PJ would force the Maloofs to open up those casino-sized wallets.

if that would work i would be for it. but there is no way seattle bites on an allen for mobley offer. cant see it happening. if we obtained an allen or kg type player i dont see any packages that would allow us to also keep bibby,peja and miller. very unlikely

I still can't see PJ coming to the Kings, but I bet he's just lovin' the attention he's getting. And I do think it's a negotiating ploy by PJ. If the team's talent is part of the decision, maybe the King's conversation with PJ would involve discussing roster moves. I just really don't see this happening, but in Kings land strange and unexpected things have been known to happen.

as much as sac isnt as much of a city, its a damn good basketball town with what the maloofs have done. besides, the whole big city thing is because jackson loves the media, and its become painfully obvious that jackson could coach a high school rec league in south dakota and the national media would follow him there. and also imagine how everyone would want to drool over a story of jackson joining his former arch-rivals who he trashtalked so much, coaching peja, mike, and bobby after the 02 WCF (that is, if those guys are still around)

at this point, id be sad to see rick go, but im more than used to seeing guys ive come to appreciate on our team leave. lets face it: the team we've loved for so many years is already gone. all the appreciation we can give to ra won't change the fact that we will never win a championship with chris, doug, and vlade. at this point, nabbing jackson may be the best way to help this team reload quickly and make another run (by becoming a prime destination for free agents or guys under contract wanting trades) rather than go into a rebuilding phase. clinging to the past and not letting go is what causes long rebuilding eras. im not saying ra is bad, just we need to be able to accept change if we want to get a championship contender within one or two years.

I know that Cleveland doesn't have great players around LeBron. I can't help but think that if talent is important, he would have to be seriously looking at that. But he's turned them down already. Makes me think his salary demands were the deal killer more than anything else. Can you imagine the publicity that would surround a PJ/LeBron combination?

I'm sorry, but it is not physically possible, no matter how many pieces of metal he has on his fingers. He could not do as well as Adelman with our personnel. I firmly believe that.

but i'm wondering if the kings just need someone to come in and kick some ***, lay down the law. lets face it, adelman is a player's coach. he doesnt get up in people's faces, and lets the team play as they wish, and receive whatever consequences they deserve for not playing their hardest. i was talkin with somebody the other day about how i wish the kings could have scouted and drafted manu ginobili. my friend brought up that manu giniobili wouldnt be the kind of player he is today had he not been coached under gregg popovich. this is arguable, but its interesting nonetheless. people give pop a lotta crap, but his players seem awfully motivated, at both ends of the court. maybe the kings need a coach like that. they may or may not become defensive players...but maybe a hard coach would motivate them more. maybe if somebody kicks peja's butt enough, he'll rebound the ball, or not play. that's pop's attitude about defense. and guess what, his players play defense, or they dont play. more often than not, they play. just a thought...

I tend to think along the same lines. I'd like to see a Larry Brown, a Rick Carlisle, or a Gregg Poppovich, but it'd have to be a guy like that, that has a history of actually coaching basketball TEAMS, not superstar factories, and is tough without coming across as a self-aggrandizing moron. (Isn't buddhism supposed to help one reach understanding and destroy ego? )
