Kings Broadcaster Jim Gray will Host James One Hour Special

This is crazy how all this will be happening 10mins away from where I live.I have friends who work the Boys & Girls Club where LeBron's making this announcement.

I think LeBron's way too comfortable to leave Cleveland. Jim Gray is still Jim Gray, butt-kisser to the NBA's stars, that's why he was chosen.

Oh don't let Jim Gray off that easy. No this dude has an ego to rival LeBron. Gray actually pitched this idea to LeBron with him doing the interview of course.

Maybe he'll say: "I can't decide between the Cavs, Knicks, and Heat....so we have the GM's from all 3 teams here to do a mega rock-paper-scissors tourney to decide where I go."

I read that it was LeBron who chose Jim Gray:
Adage.com via Ryan@CU's twitter page:
And the network is allowing Mr. James to choose the journalist to whom he reveals his selection. He picked freelance sports reporter Jim Gray, a former ESPN staffer. ...

You know, I didn't mind him doing the one hour special that much, I still considered myself a fan of his, but hand-picking Jim Gray as the announcer? That's just too far.

You know for a man who is so into establishing his "brand", he sure makes some curious decisions. Holding a "ME" party hour on ESPN where he discusses "ME" with one of the most reviled reporters in sports broadcasting. All the while he flips the bird at every city except one. And throw in one very suspect cover of doing it for charity. So much for smart marketing...

I believe he would be a fool to go there because it will be Wade's team not Lebron.

The Bulls or Knicks would be a better choice if he really wants to go.

And yet, word is that he's rented 6 cabanas at the W Hotel South Beach for this weekend.

What a disastrous situation this will become if 2 smaller less desirable market teams lose their players to one mega market. The NBA is the BCS where a few elite teams can really compete with a Boise St team looking in. I hope the issue is atleast brought up in the CBA talks about some sort of compensation or a Franchise-type tag to keep teams from losing supertar FAs.

From AP:
Fans will have to wait for it though. A person familiar with the program told the AP that James won't announce his decision until "late in the show." The person requested anonymity because program details were supposed to remain confidential.

This sort of BS is why I don't want Jim Gray. This is fricking embarrassing to have this guy associated with the team.

Looking back on it now, I can be entertained by Bill Walton. Yeah he probably is baked beyond repair, but he can make me laugh. I'm just going to hate that rat face Gray on the TV for my games. Damn I already suffer through Grant and Jerry.

Well, we already have Howdy Doody. The question now is, who does Jim Gray look like? We need a new nickname...

Post your suggestions here!

A lot of people say Gray's voice, especially when excited sounds like "Kermit the Frog."

How sad we go from terrible voice, terrible sideline reporter A. Tsai, to the pleasant sounding, estute Kayte - to now THIS! Well, at least we'll have plenty of laughs from off-the-wall but solid analyst Bill Walton when he's around on Kings telecasts, hopefully on radio too.

The people of this site make me laugh some times. Some of you can't be pleased at all....ever. Jim Gray is a respected broadcaster. Yea he wasn’t exciting in the interview, but neither was Lebron. He was mirroring the demeanor of the entire event in my opinion.

The guy did a good job, and asked a lot of good questions. Lebron was the one giving uninteresting answers, and a lot of repetitive BS.

By the way, who cares what the guy looks like? So, all of the broadcasters have to be attractive in some way? Is Grant attractive? Is Jerry? Get real folks.

Last night's circus of BS was Gray's idea. He's desperately trying to resurrect a career he himself put in the toilet. How can anyone respect either man last night for putting on that media frenzy of lies that wouldn't even qualify as spin. Some reporter he is for spoon feeding LeBron softball questions for all that time.

You ever wonder why he had to work in Sacramento and not one of the major markets? It's because he wasn't wanted. Also, who he is respected by? Ailene Voison is the only who defended his hiring and it had more to do with her twisted opinion of Kayte.

And no I doubt all this hate towards Gray has a thing to do with his looks or his voice.

Its really not just Kings fans unamused by Gray's performance last night:

I find it a little interesting that a guy who made his reputation (for better/worse) asking probing and questionably appropriate questions lobbed softballs at LeBron all night. Perhaps the toughest question was asked by Wilbon (for LeBron's reaction to his jersey burning), a guy occasionally accused of being too cuddly with star players. It was like bizzaro world.

You can't fault Jim for asking safe questions. He was hand picked from the depths of sports broadcasting irrelevance by Lebron, and according to CNBC was even paid by Lebron. Of course he's not going to grill Lebron. To think that someone in his situation would/should is silly.
