Yeah this one really confuses me. So you'd have a guard rotation with Reke, Thornton, Crawford, Jimmer (maybe a little Salmons and Garcia)? There aren't enough minutes or shots to go around and your perimeter d would be awful.

After years of not spending Maloofs, don't open the wallets unless it's to actually spend for need. You know, like the gaping hole we have around the basket on d.
 
Only way this could work for me is if it's a sign and trade which may include most likely Garcia packaged with Crawford for a higher paid player.
 
I have a sneaking suspicion that the Kings are stockpiling talent to make some big trades. If the Kings actually got Crawford and AK, we would have major logjams at every position in the back court, which could allow us to make a move for a legit PF/C.

And yes, it is very nice to see the Kings active in the market; even if individual moves seem odd, I still trust GP. Strong signals that the Kings get a new downtown arena and the Maloofs are giving Petrie more room to maneuver = a future that is growing brighter every day.

Yeah, but who would we trade? I've thought about that, but how would we clear our backcourt?

Not trading Jimmer. Not trading Reke. Just signed Thorton. So even we we trade Cisco or others when he gets here, if he does, we still haven't cleared any of the guys who need shots out of the backcourt.

Update: Por has offered 2/10. NY offered 1/2.5. Our offer is more than NY's.

I'm guessing the only reason he's considering us is that we've offered the most dough. I'd much prefer we use the money to try to resign Dally, but maybe that avenue has already been pursued. Not keen on adding Crawford, he takes a lot of shots and doesn't make a good percentage of them. Nor does he play defense. Just not a very good fit here.
 
Portland offering 5m, ny 2.5. Both 1 year deals. You have to assume we are about 5 as well or we wouldnt be in the conversation. Strange move if we end up doing it.

My point was Garcia is Mr. Chokes-ALOT got paid much more

I agree with many others that we should be looking for a veteran PG, not one of these NaPG players
 
Seeing a lot of negativity about this (and rightfully so), so I'll throw something positive out there: He has the ability to take over games in the 4th quarter and isn't afraid to take the big shot. Doesn't mean I think this would be a good move, just throwing it out there

This is insane. Bringing him in for one year? Starting him over our newly signed sg? Why would we bring in a starter, for a year, to see him walk? Why sign Marcus to a 31M deal, and put his *** on the bench? I see we're going for offense, offense, and more offense. Throw that extra money at AK.

I say they sign him and move Garcia along, get him out, package him with a 2nd round pick for a 1st round pick from a team like NY. Then you get Crawford, run him as your 6th man and have Crawford and Jimmer as the back up guards, nasty.

C - Cousins/Hayes/Whiteside
PF - Hickson/JT
SF - Salmons/Greene/Honeycutt
SG - Thorton/Crawford
PG - Evans/Jimmer/Thomas

Thats a nice rotation and good bench, can't complain.
 
Why are the Maloofs so dumb. We already have scorers. We don't need more of them. We need glue guys, guys that defend, block shots, and do not demand the ball to be effective. This is just awful. Really damn awful showing by our front office. What are those guys on? GP? I mean we wanted the Maloofs to spend money back then but we wanted money spent on players that we needed. Now that the Maloofs are actually spending money, they're spending it on players we don't really need and will actually just hurt our team!
 
I'm honestly perfectly fine, and excited if this move happens.

We need a bench, PERIOD. We'd have:

1. Evans at the 1 (Jimmer won't be ready right away)
2. Thornton/Crawford at the 2 (One would be a helluva 6th man)
3. Salmons at the 3
4. Cousins at the 4.
5. Hayes/Hickson at the 5.


So we'd have Thornton/Crawford as 6th man, with most likely Hickson as the 1st big off the bench, Jimmer, Donte....I seriously think Garcia and JT will be moved somehow, soon.

I just think they're trying to meet the salary cap requirements and not have to hold onto contracts and Crawford can't hurt. GP doesn't want to really bring in more big men to mess up the young rotation and he doesn't need another shooting guard but if he's the best out there and he can help then why not. The problem spot is SF and until are boy GREENE plays like he was NBA2K we'll be searching for that position until the right player comes along, Salmons not it but he'll do.

Why? Why for a year? A single season.

You say bring him off the bench. As you saw, Amick said talk is that he'd start.

This is truly insane. It either works out well, we gain momentum, and he walks in 6 months, or it doesn't work out, and we wasted an entire season of not letting Reke/Marcus/Jimmer getting more touches and developing together. Or.....he does well, we resign him next summer, and then how much do we have committed to our sg's? How much of a waste is the contract we just signed Marcus to?
 
I have often heard that the way to rebuild is to stockpile talent. That seems to be what the organization is trying to do, whether the pieces fit or not. We sure do have a talented roster in my opinion.

It sucks that he couldn't wait for AK's decision before throwing out an offer to another chucker.
 
Jamal Crawford on the Kings would be just fine with me, but since several teams are reportedly bidding such as Knicks, Blazers, etc., - could still be a long-shot. He's a proven NBA scorer/6th man and on a night Thornton is off or maybe there's a Kings backcourt injury, Crawford could be a valuable piece. As much as I have hopes for Jimmer he's highly unlikely to just come in and light up NBA from day one - might even struggle a lot his rookie year. Crawford won't struggle on an NBA court and he's a marginally better defensive player than Jimmer - and that's saying something.
 
This is how a normal non-stupid non-been in the lottery 3/4 of the years of its existence franchise doles out the minutes to its backcourt:

Reke: 37min
Thornton: 35min
Jimmer: 24min (if he's ready. if not Cisco gets some minutes, and it would be nice to have a veteran reserve PG)

And already right there you have too many shots to account for. Let alone if you then bring in a super gunner.

BTW, we need a bench? Hell, we might have the best bench in the NBA before this thing is over, and it just keeps getting deeper. All of which would be much more interesting if we did not have a young trio of potential stars who all should be in the mid-30s+ of mins (Cousins likely a few less due to the fouls).
 
I would think he would go to Portland if their offer is about the same. More minutes with Roy gone, team in playoffs last year, plus he's a Northwest guy, no?
 
i think people are going to be surprised at how much evans will "play SF" and guard them this year. By doing this it opens up more time at the 1/2 for Thornton/Jimmer/Jamal if we did get Crawford. Which also makes sense with the three guard rotation Westphal has been talking about.
I think putting Evans at SF may not be a bad thing now that we have other ball handlers. Hes got the size for it offensively and defensively.. And it would force him to improve his movement off the ball, and become a more versatile player.

At first thought getting a player like Jamal may seem like a stupid move because of the lack of PT he may get. But i think you have to understand what type of system PW really wants to run. I would love AK on this team, but im not going to be dissapointed if we get Jamal ( a proven playoff scorer and vet).. with one of the nastiest crossovers ive ever seen.

If we were to sign him to be a bench player to get 15 minutes a night, then I'd probably be ok with it as long as it was for a relatively cheap contract.

To me the biggest negative is that if he starts, he's going to take away from the time that the Tyreke/Cousins/Thornton combination has to develop chemistry.
Now if you told me today that by signing Crawford we'd win a couple of extra games, and those games would be the thing that pushes us to the play-offs, then I'd be ok with it.
But with no guarantees, other than a reduction of time to develop chemistry, I have to agree that I'd rather not see Crawford signed, especially if he'd be coming in as a starter.
 
I dont think Tyreke can be fully utilized as the player hes capable of becoming by playing our PG position all the time.... as much as i tryd to convince myself he was a PG early on in his career.. He dosent have the awareness,passing, leadership or vocal skills.. The only reason he averages as many asts as he does is because he initiates 75 % of each play because hes our best dribbler.. I think he would be better off developing his all around game at SF.. And we could let Jimmer get mad time at PG.. Jimmers got the leadership, shooting, passing and poise a pg needs.

we could use a 6th man scorer off the bench like Jamal.. Although i would prefer a defensive roleplayer that can knock down the open shot,but thats not the case cause theres nothing on the market. Plus if we got Crawford im pretty sure we would be the deadliest shooting team in the league. And there would always be a 3 point threat on the court...

I dunno i just dont see why people are SOOO against this move.. the only reason i would kinda be upset is because Jamals not the best defender. But honeslty id rather see him playing then Garcia, Donte, Thomas.

We have gone away from everything that makes a winner and are trying to turn ourselves into Golden State or the Phoenix/Knicks 7 seconds or less offense. All we need is to sign Don Nelson and we are there!

People leading this team just do not know what it takes to win it all. I get depressed when I start thinking what someone like Riley or Popovich would have done if they were in charge of the Kings this off-season.

Our GM's, coach's and owners' fettish with scorers continues. Magoofs famously proclaimed after Dallas won the championship that it was their shooters that made it happen....you've got to have shooting! :rolleyes:

I think they're trying to build a team with offense and defense. Adding Hayes and AK47 are both defensive minded moves.

1. We haven't added AK47 and I am yet to be convinced that he will leave CSKA. Even if he does, its still a big question whether he chooses Sacramento or go to NJ to play with his buddy in D-Will and play for his buddy in Prochokov

2. Hayes is a great man on man defender but we have most likely lost a significant part of the team defense in Dalembert. If we had both, it would be a slam dunk. By gaining a great man on man defender we have lost a goalie, shotblocker, and one of the best rebounders in the league in Dally (check is per 36 stats) so at the VERY best we are on the same level and I would argue that we have gone backwards in this area.
