Kings Better Watch Out or.....

The Kings better start the season with a win and with confidence or they will be struggling the whole season....The Lakers may be better than we all think.....The Kings could be in trouble by not really having a "go to guy"......The Pacific will be tough this year.....

Yup... Those Heat... Gonna be at the bottom of the barrel this season... Winning the first game is never a bad thing, but it doesn't determine the season...

yeah... because the defensive presence of diaw and thomas was so amazing last night.... we all know that nash is a defensive stopper... thats why he won myvp 2 years in a row...

How did the Lakers beat the Suns again? I watch the 1st quarter and the Suns got out to a good lead and looked good, I taped the game. I really don't feel like watching it and getting sick watching the Lakers win without Kobe. ;)

Man I wish I tapped that whole game instead of just watching the 4th quarter. Wow the Bulls sure put a good smack down on the Defending Champs on their Home on Opening night after getting their rings! NICE :p

Well it all depends if Bibby will be ready for tonight. As of now though, I think kev can step up and be the go to guy. He really showed that he could in preseason so watch out for him this year... gonna be a huge scorer 20+ pts.

Kevin Martin is not a go to guy.

It sort of reminds me of Peja during his one good season (2003) when I thought Peja was overrated. Bricklayer said it exactly right in his grades thread, "23 of the quietest points you are likely to see."

Peja was the same way. He would have 17-18 pts through 3.5 quarters, and would tack on a bunch of free throws.

Most of Kevin's points seem like garbage points...others create for him, fast breaks, etc. He can't create much for himself. His ballhandling seems labored, his shot is ugly (but he makes it). But at the end of the game, despite feeling like he didn't do much of anything, he has 23 points and leads the team in scoring. I always felt the same way about Peja.

Martin's game is different. You can't compare the two. Peja shot the ball. That was it. Martin can penetrate, he can shoot, and he is incredibly quick. It is only his third year. He will never be LeBron or Kobe or anything but he has the talent to become a very good player. I think in a few more years he may be a go to guy. The kid needs time.

I think Kevin needs to be more aggresive and drive to the basket more. I expect to see this as his career progresses and he gains more confidence in his role on the court. He needs to look to get to the line because he is really good at it.

wow.. the lakers are about to be 2-0... the lakers play better without kobe than with him... who would have guessed?

Like i said the Lakers depth is scary which is why they will be better then the Kings.

Actually, I think there may be a lot that is similar in Peja and Martin's games and roles -- its really the style differences that obscure that. Both move well wihtout the ball, both score efficiently off of passes form teammates. Both pick up a lot of easy points and hoops, and both are expected to knock down open shots and sneak in for uncontested layups and whatnot whenever possible off of whatever else we are doing. NEITHER, however, is at their best when just thrown the ball and asked to create for themselves. I would certainly say wiht his relative youth and ahtleticism Kevin has more potential to develop that. But its not the best part of his game at this point. And so his role really IS Peja's old role -- get the easy hoops. Hit the open shots. Move without the ball. He;s not the guy standing out top or at the elbow, or int he post, making things happen. He's the guy converting. He's not the creater. He's the finisher.

I don't think he'll ever be a go-to guy, but he'll be a nasty second-guy. Ricky Davis or Larry Hughs. A great player, but just shy of being a "do-it-yourselfer".

Those are my favorite players anyhow. I hate when guys like LeBron/Kobe/Iverson/McGrady put it up 25-30 times. I think it hurts the team.

The only fear I have with Martin is that Martin decides he's a Kobe or Iverson and just starts trying to do it all. That's my fear.
