Actually it's not my point at all that we haven't done anything to get better. My point was that anytime someone mentions the fact that there is still more to do and that it feels like Petrie has an overly passive style, there is backlash from some fans.
I think signing gay or most of the other moves gms have made this offseason would have been the wrong moves and I applaud Petrie for not making them. But besides the dalembert deal, I haven't been impressed with his trades and free agent moves for around 5 years.
That is my entire premise and I don't mind people disagreeing if they think we're in a position to hold off on any moves. My irritation comes from the blanket attacks that anyone with a dissenting opinion is irrational, misguided, ignorant, young, etc.

When I thought there is no possible way to top yourself and this rediculous thread you started, you make a couple more asinine comments. Not only is everthing you have said ignorant at best, but you have failed to engage in any kind of a debate, explained your stance in any way, shape, or form, shown an ounce of intelligence, presented any reasons why we should consider your opinions, or really added anything to your own thread.
Why the hell would anyone answer more of your questions when you haven't shown the ability to participate in the discussion you started? I'm not going to waste my time commenting on your Beno/Cisco starting backcourt.
You tell me, then: what else "needs" to be done? And, by "needs," I mean in terms of immediately? In other words, what has to be done before we know whether Greene, Casspi and Thompson are good enough? Are our best players in the twilights of their careers? Are we one player away from a championship? What can't wait?
You are starting to sound like my 7 year old, arguing just to argue.
You are ignoring some of the recent moves that caught us all by surprise (the trades of Artest and Martin and Hawes, for starters) in order to state that Petrie isn't doing anything. Really? Clearing cap space, acquiring significant talent in trades and the draft, and announcing you are waiting a year for the talent to gel on the court and see what the next CBA looks like before spending some of the $$$ we have stockpiled doesn't count for anything in your book? Are you serious????
Assume that any of the free agents would require double the salary they got elsewhere to sign here as a "non-attractive" small market, and even then some wouldn't have (as you well know). Now go at it and let us know who we should have overpaid to come here. Go ahead. We'll wait.

I simply stated my opinion. When those opinions were greeted unkindly, I simply stood up for myself. I'm not in the business of taking people's crap. I never said Petrie had literally done nothing. My comments were specifically about free agency. By bringing trades, the drafts, and cap space into it, you're just creating a straw man argument.

My whole point is that Petrie has done a LOT this offseason by putting together a strong collection of talent, toughness, and compeitive spirit that is mostly young and hungry. He has cleaned out all of the 'losing, soft' mentality players and malcontents and now he going to let these guys get it on and take it from there. What really needs to be done at this point? Nothing, they just need to let them play. You don't know what you have when you only have 7 returning players and almost all of them are under 26, and 2 new rookies who are destined to be part of your core, and one big trade piece that upgraded your weakest position the previous year.

You obviously are new here, and so think that the initial response was unkind. IMO, it was a very fair response. You said that we should have gone after some guys. Opposition said who? You said Rudy Gay. Opposition made an argument against Rudy Gay. You ... somewhat defended Rudy Gay. Opposition said ok, who else? You then said no, it's not about who we should have gone after, it's that we didn't go after anybody. Opposition said how do you know that? And your response is because Petrie hasn't done anything in Free Agency.

Well, judging from what you've said there, I'd have to conclude that you didn't read my responses very carefully. My intent was never to play GM. I simply expressed that I was unhappy with the lack of activity in free agency on the part of The Kings. The red herring was then thrown out in an attempt to make it about what I would do, when I never claimed that I had the answers. Some people just can't encounter a dissenting view without trying to turn it into a pissing contest.

You don't have a dissenting view. You have pissing and moaning. A dissenting view is based on something. Not just a "view" or "opinion". You can't just come on here and say "x is poo" and not expect to be torn to shreds. If you want a dissenting view, you've got to back it up and base it on something. I'm doing my best to try to understand just what the cotton candy you're even talking about in the first place... and to me all I can really gather is that you are dissapointed that the Kings didn't "make some efforts to get someone in free agency" or something like that. You're not even disappointed that we didn't get anybody... it's more of.... wait, sorry, I got confused again. What's you're point again? Give us something to argue against, please. Can you state again what your original point was? I'm serious.

Hardly. I don't buy into the premise that acquiring a high quality player in free agency would be "detrimental or growth stunting". And patience? Come on, Kings fans have been patient for the last 4 or 5 years as we've watched the team get progressively worse each season. It should come as no shock that there are fans who'd like to see a more aggressive approach.

I've indicated multiples times, multiples things that my opinions are based on. They may not be reasons you'd agree with, but that's not really my concern. I'm not trying to "prove" anything. I think more could have and should have been done, you, apparently, think that things couldn't have been handled better. That's fine. People can have differing views.

Again, you say more could have and should have been done but the only suggestion you've made is Rudy Gay. And Rudy Gay at 60 million. He went for 80. We would have had to give him a contract bigger than Lebron to sign him. Did you want to do that? If you think "more" could have been done, what is this "more"? And at what positions?
And exactly how do you come to that conclusion? What "high quality player in free agency" could we have acquired who wouldn't have taken minutes away from young talent that needs it? What "high quality" free agent is going to say "Sure, I'll come off the bench, so that Greene, Casspi and Thompson get the playing time that they need to develop."? Any "high quality" free agent that could have hypothetically been attained is going to want big money and big minutes, the latter of which, by necessity, is "detrimental or growth stunting." Why, what definition of "detrimental or growth stunting" are you working with?
You are missing the point. You are looking strictly at free agency with blinders on, ignoring everything else. It is BECAUSE of the other things the FO did that none of us are really all that concerned about a "big name" free agent because, frankly:
- no "significant" free agent would sign here for a reasonable amount of $$$ this year
- signing anyone else for significant $$$ (which it would have required) would set this team back years from where we are today via salaries
- we have a lot of young talent to develop, why nail that to the bench so an overpaid FA gets more minutes?
- you really keep ignoring the new agreement to be hammered out - it may have a *very* severe impact on teams that overpaid for talent - the smart move this year is to keep salary low and see where it leads
- everyone is acting like once camp starts there are no more trades. By keeping our salary low we can absorb salary trades during the season if need be.
So last season was worst than the previous? I see ... There you go with your opinions again. Why do you not buy into the premise that a high quality FA would be detrimental? I'll give you my reasons why I think he would be growth stunting. High quality - that means he's going to get minutes, going to get shots, going to get the ball. That means less minutes, less shots, less of the ball for other players. With less playing time and less opportunities to play, score, defend, just how do you expect a young guy to develop to his full potential?
Going back to your whole "I wasn't trying to play GM" thing ... that's just lame. If you're criticizing Petrie for not aggressively pursuing a FA then it also means that you want to pursue a FA. If you personally didn't want a particular free agent or don't see any realistic, positive moves that we could have made without overspending, then why do you expect Petrie to have seen such a move? I'm just going to save you the trouble of making a bigger fool of yourself and suggest that you actually think before posting if you're coming from a defensive standpoint that isn't the crowd favourite.

Taking away minutes from a young developing player is hardly detrimental to the team as a whole if the player getting those minutes is better than the players he's taking the minutes from. It seems if as if you'd be opposed to adding any piece even if they were better than Caspi, Greene, or Thompson. It's not as if Caspi, Greene, or Thompson are on track to become perennial all stars. If they were, I could understand the trepidation over them not getting max minutes. But all three of them are "projects" so I don't understand the level of devotion that would opt for them over a player that's playing at a high level and will be able to contribute consistently right away.

Do you really need the obvious stated here? Clearly last season was an improvement (how could it not have been). I kind of figured that's self evident without me having to say it. Perhaps I gave some of you folks a bit too much credit....If player 1 is currently a B level player, and player 2 is currently a C level player, I do not agree that starting player 1 over player 2 is detrimental to the team. Proven players trump "potential" players, unless it's a player like Cousins with an extremely high potential upside. Furthermore, I never singled out Petrie. I clearly indicated Kings ownership (who I think is really ultimately responsible) as well.

What part of it's the lack of effort I was disappointed with are you not getting here? Or, if you are getting that, why do you have such a problem accepting it? The Kings entered this years free agency market making it clear in the media that they had no intentions of joining in the bidding wars. That was disappointing to me. If you have a problem with that, that's fine.

I'm not ignoring any of those things. My position has been distorted here. I simply wished there would have been more effort and activity in at least publicly pursuing some free agents. That doesn't mean that I'm ignoring the other positives, or that I'm claiming free agency was the be all end all.
