Honestly, I think this just sets us up for more disappointment when Houston matches our offer on the last day they can match. We better have some other signings wrapped up or this could get even uglier.

I know Josh smith is 6'9, but my god...he looks like andre the giant next to those guys
At this point is rather miss on guys like Beverly and koufos than blow the space we have on josh smith, joe Johnson, etc.
I'd gladly spend the $10mil on him we're about to give to Rondo. Still a young PG and we know Beverly will improve this team with his defense. Not like he's a finished product either offensively. Also a guy I think Boogie would love playing with how he goes all out on defense.
Agree with you. If we walk out of this offseason with Beverly, Koufos, WCS, and another guard/wing like Beli, Stuckey, Brewer, we'll be in really solid shape next season.
Agreed. Plus sign vet guys like dorrell wright for shooting depth. We'd be improved in the right ways from last year instead of worrying about "making a splash" with names. Would also help out with further trades down the road.

Let's see what happens before we all go doom and gloom. It's only day 3 of free agency. Not to mention trades are possible. We may not be far away from a playoff spot. You get Rondo, Beverley, and Koufos maybe (probably two of those 3) and resign Casspi, that's not a bad roster.

I agree with you that I'd rather have Beverly and Koufas over Josh Smith or Joe Johnson any day but the risk with Beverly means possibly signing no one. Keep in mind that if we sign Beverly to a deal it can't start the 3 day matching period until the memorandum is up on July 9th. That means that we won't know if Houston matches until July 12th. There is no way that there will be any worthwhile FAs still available that can help us all that much. Beverly would be a great pickup but the risk is pretty high considering the timetables involved. That's why we aren't hearing much about Tobias Harris. He's arguably one of the most talented FAs available but teams are hesitant to make an offer since he's restricted and there's a strong possibility Orl matches

No way of knowing how they play together. But that is alot of talent and alot of athleticism. If you can then throw a casspi in there that is a solid 8 man rotation.
He would only tie up the cap space that we had allocated to his contract. If we assume that's about $10M (or even less), then the remainder would still be available for us to spend.

There's nobody of quality left to sign. Anybody decent (Koufos, Beleneli, Brewer) can get the same money elsewhere. If we overpay we are just overpaying for mediocre role-players. Not anyone that's going to make us that much better. Even though we have cap room sometimes the best thing to do is not use it if you strike out. Would have been nice not to agree in principle to a trade giving away first round picks and a swap for this bullcrap.
You don't buy a limo, a tux, and agree to chores so you can stay out late BEFORE you have a prom date that says yes. Thank god it's Fourth of July weekend so people will just think I'm drinking for the festivities.

What we traded were mediocrerole-players... what we still hope to sign are SOLID role players. That is called improvement.
Real lack of shooting though, which was a problem last year. If rondo can defend like old rondo, it would be a much better defensive team.

How much would you pay for Koufos? $7 million? I bet there are teams out there that would give him that. So we have to pay $9 million. Would you pay $9 million for Koufos? How about Brewer? $5 million? Make it $7 million.
Now how much would you pay for Beverly? $10 million? You don't think Houston would match when they desperately need PG help?

Even is we overpay for say Bellinelli and Koufos at say 13 and 11 mil respectively, we CAN pay the the 24 mill and I would call it an upgrade from Nick and JT.

Yes. But you're forgetting that we had $10 million to start with right? We're giving away ALL of our cap-space to upgrade from Thompson and Stauskas (and it's an upgrade but it's nothing that's going to get us in the playoffs). AND we gave up a draft pick. AND two draft swaps.
Why not just hold onto the space? Maybe make a trade somehow from someone that is looking to free up space? It just doesn't make sense to lock up our free cap room to sign a bunch of guys that nobody else is making offers to until the rest of the better players are off the table.

Screw the picks we don't make it into the play off next year we loose DMC and Rudy. That 10 million would have fetched back maybe Rondo, now we can look higher and that also improves any bargaining we may do with Rondo as well.

I know people are complaining about vivek being at meetings but i have another view on it. I think there should be more people there to show support on how good the Kings can be. If i were Wes Matthews it would have been nice to see the head coach and DMC, our star player, at the meeting. The other teams out there have their stars helping to recruit showing how much they want the FA and the head coach there to tell them how they can be used. Kind of odd to meet with vlade and vivek and then them say "i think rudy might still be in town drive around and look for him"

We can hope that we keep some space and a team is desperate to get rid of some salary and sends us an asset in the process. But this will not take place until the season started and we are approaching the deadline.
If we don't find a way to upgrade our roster before the season starts...

I don't see a lack of shooting. You guys may want to recheck the shooting % of Rudy and Ben as compared to the rest of the names that are being thrown around. Better yet look at the names behind them on the list of 3pt shooting %

Yeah I didn't mean getting him to sign would lock up the whole $26 mil just the amount that we would get Beverley to sign for. I just think people are too optimistic about Beverley because if we don't get him it also means missing out on guys like Lin, Joseph, etc. We would be putting all of our backup pg eggs in the Beverley basket and may get burned again.

Marco Belinelli can be a real good backup for the SG's spot, maybe we should try and get Beno as a back PG again, because I can't see how us trying to sign Rajon Rondo is going to work, maybe we should try to sign Reggie Jackson instead so Collison will be his backup of the bench.
Josh Smith could fit really well in our team playing next to DeMarcus Cousins, then we might have a killer starting five, Reggie Jackson as a PG, Ben McLemore as SG, Rudy Gay as a SF, Josh Smith as a PF, and DeMarcus Cousins as a C.
Then we will have decent bench players like Darren Collison, Marco Belinelli and hopefully Omri Casspi after the Kings decides to sign him.

Maybe. last year our problem was NOT the starting 5 it was the bench,they go a long way to fix that. So would Smith, Rondo, Beverly or a few other guys still out there. Koufos and Belinelli were only examples.
