Kings and free agency - part 2

It's pretty clear why we were so high on Wes Matthews. Perimeter shooting and defense without needing the ball all the time. The drop off now that he's gone is so significant they had to make him a huge offer. Yet when you consider state taxes and cost of living and such I doubt the difference between our offer and the Mav's was really even that big. Now you have to get/pay multiple guys to get the shooting + perimeter defense combo. Belinelli is probably available but then you would have to add Beverly or Rondo(can he still defend?). I hate Josh Smith's decision making on offense but he's solid on defense and won't cost a ton. Just think though, all that talk about Rondo and J. Smoove from last year might actually happen now and at about half the cost!

This has been a crazy off-season so far but how good has Vlade been given the hand he's been dealt? I fear its going to take him a while to quiet the storm he was hired into. I like what he's doing so far and you can't accuse him of being passive.
Not sure we'd get smith and rondo at half the cost of last year.

Plan B could be based on assets we acquire for DMC and Gay and possibly using our cap room. But there is a reason it is "B". Plan B - means we are losing DMC. Thats why Vlade is going for Plan A ... and everything is in.
Nope, we are still losing DMC because he's not signing an extension with this dumpster fire. And now we can't trade DMC for two years, unless the goal is to convey a top 5 pick to Philly. He's firmly locked into the car that's going over a cliff.

Yeah as much as I hoped Vlade got the reigns, the last couple of days has Vivek written all over it.

We offered Monta a contract when we were meeting with Wes. We are trying to negotiate with Beverley while meeting with Rondo. Throwing huge money at a guy coming off an achilles tear. Josh Smith, Rondo old Vivek favorites. This guy is the root of all of this guys. PDA played his part sure, but Vivek is running this thing like a clown show.

Wait, who said that?

For starters, I don't actually believe that we're still on Plan A. And Plan B had better not be losing Cousins; that had better be no higher than Plan M (since we all know that Hardison dies in Plan M). Plan A, I believe, was creating cap space to sign high value free agents. That did not work. Plan B, I hope, involves using that cap space to trade for a high value target, who may be on a bad contract.

But, no, there's no chance that we're still on Plan A. Vlade Divac is not David Xanatos: there's no way that whiffing on Player A and Player B, and ending up with Player C is all part of the master plan.

There is no plan, it is literally we will sign anyone that takes our money. What would have happend if Monta agreed to come here while Wes was flying into town? Do you just say "sorry Wes we're cancelling the pitch, no longer in need of your services"?

Philly would accept the trade if Landry's physical revealed he had terminal Ebola. It was a great trade for Philly when they made it. It's only gotten better for them over the past 48 hours.

We could still backout, we would probably be black balled in NBA circles, at the same time Hinkie isnt exactly known as a saint either. I know it won't happen, but it probably should being realistic.

@DaveLack: Am I the only one who remembers how trill @Darren_Collison was before his injury when we had a full uninjured roster?

@Darren_Collison: It seems so...
Man. DC came to us last year with the talks of being the starter. He played pretty damn well as one. Now we just act like he doesn't exist anymore. Add this to another list of guys we've totally alienated over the years.

What a messss. Keep Darren starting and see if we can get Lin to back us up.

I'm in a wait and see mode still. We have to look at things in context. Wes Matthews is from Texas so he basically took a hometown discount to play with the Mavs. We offered Monta basically $1mil more a year at $12 mil (which is very reasonable given the other contracts given out this offseason) but he turned us down for an almost perfect situation in Indy. Everyone seems to think that we are throwing crazy money at every free agent just to sign someone but its all speculation at this point. Matthews at $16 mil is a gamble but IF he comes back healthy he's worth it. It's also funny that there hasn't been much mention of the risk that Dallas is taking even at $13 mil. If Matthews comes back at 60% of what he was $13 mil is still a lot to waste but since it's Dallas and Cuban everyone thinks its a great deal.

I think Nene has one year left on his contract. Given we can't sign any good FA, there is no major risk involved. Nene was a desaster in the PO and has health issues. But he is still a skilled guy.
Maybe he is worth it, when we can lure the Wizards in giving us another asset. Porter would help with defense and spacing.
I wouldnt be opposed to it if Porter came along.

I don't believe DC is alienated and I don't think the fans have given up in him. I also don't think the front office has given up on him.

One tweet does not alienation make, especially when it's in response to a loaded question.

Nene? No, no.

The thing that bothers me about the trade is the "blow it up and rebuild" option has been taken off the table. We backed ourselves into a corner without anyone forcing us to do so.
Good move. Desparate situations require desperate measures and we did it. I bet e get a decent C or PF or SG or PG and likely two or three. As long as we improve 2 starting positions and two back ups we will be just fine no matter the cost.

Make our acquisitions this summer Joseph, A Miller, Belinelli, J Anderson, Casspi, Cauley-Stein, O'Quinn, Gooden, & Aldrich (waive Stockton) and I'm a very happy camper.

Collison/McLemore/Gay/Cauley-Stein/Cousins should still be a very strong starting lineup just like last year (minus Thompson). Then your bench is much improved with Joseph/Belinelli/Casspi/O'Quinn/Aldrich. Not to mention you still have guys like Miller/Anderson/Gooden who aren't completely worthless if we get hit with injuries.

PG - Collison/Joseph/Miller/McCallum
SG - McLemore/Belinelli/Anderson
SF - Gay/Casspi
PF - Cauley-Stein/O'Quinn/Gooden/Moreland
C - Cousins/Aldrich

Well it wouldn't be for Nene, although I would still consider a healthy Nene an upgrade over JT. But in no way I would do this for Nene straight up. But as a slight possibility to get Porter, a good, young 3&D wing, who is also a good rebounder, it sounds appealing.
But I would think the Wizards consider Porter their starter this season with Kelly Oubre to back him up. So this may be a pipedream anyways.

I'm curious why Gooden? I get the rest and even kinda maybe like it, but Gooden?
