Big Cuz 15
All-Star
monies on whether malone can bring denver to more win improvements than karl w/ sac? they got the bosnian boogie over there.
Agree.. Can't stand when people are saying we're trading away the future.. If we're in that position in 2018 or whatever then we are already doomed and Cuz would be gone anyway..

No one is arguing a salary dump is useful. It's what we have up. Some people don't think it was much. Some think it's too much. You want to see how you should do a salary dump? See how the Suns did one just a day or so after we tried. Read about their trade and then compare it to oursOk, I stand corrected. But yes, that is the risk.
You're telling me you'd rather not take that risk, hold on to our picks for dear life, not try to sign a major impact free agent. Hope we get Rondo regardless, etc.
So you're not a fan of the salary dump move? Or are you just playing devil's advocate. Let me start asking the questions now.
Wait, how are we going to be players at the deadline without any assets to trade? Take overpaid players from contenders so they can free space? So...just replace what we just spent 3 years of our future to get rid of?
I'd rather have Nik, JT and Landry in the meeting with free agents compared to Vivek...I'd rather have Nik, JT and Landry (plus the draft assets) than most of those players.
I'm absolutely not a fan of the move. We had 10M in cap space to work with. We could have absorbed a contract. Traded the same package of players and picks for a player that was GUARANTEED to come here regardless. It's like we said LET'S DO IT SACRAMENTO!!!! without drawing up plans before hand.
^^no because we gave it a real go.
We needed to make a move like this to go to win now mode. We had to give ourselves a crack at bringing in some tap talent to get us not only into the playoffs but beyond given the mistakes of the past season.
We fielded offers to two top tier guards, both of who rejected our offer. It is what it is but we for the first time in over a decade are finally going all out to win and if it falls apart ill still be here because we didnt die wondering.
I still think the best thing to do would be signing guys like Beverley, Stuckey and Koufous. Bring back Omri and some minimum vet, and you have an interesting team.
Collison / Beverley
McLemore / Stuckey
Gay / Casspi
WCS / Moreland
DMC / Koufous
Probably we would need another big, but that's a solid team that could win games. Better in my opinion than overspending just for one guy.
Having said that, I have zero confidence something like this will happen. I am at the point I just always expect for the worst outcome.
Beverley wont come here to be a backup when he's a starter in Houston.I still think the best thing to do would be signing guys like Beverley, Stuckey and Koufous. Bring back Omri and some minimum vet, and you have an interesting team.

Serious question to you, Brick etc-Are all of you planning on stopping being fans if we still suck in 2 years and Cuz leaves?
Beverley wont come here to be a backup when he's a starter in Houston.
Joseph, Stuckey, Koufos, Casspi is probably more realistic
It's interesting to me how there seems to be two camps of reactions to moves like this. I think it's a basic difference in life philosophy. I won't try to convert you to mine. But the way I see it, you can't draw up all plans before hand because the landscape changes so frequently, and there's always risk that an unforseen event might occur (injury, etc.). What this does give us are to basic currencies: money, the most obvious one. But also power: the ability to go after who we want. Just because Matthews chose Dallas doesn't mean we've lost that power. There are still plenty of other impact players we can sign.
My guess is once Rondo signs, all the sudden we become a more attractive place to play.

This is how people outside kings land sees us

Because players love Rondo? The best of the rest of the realistic FA pool is:
Josh Smith (yikes)
Louis Williams (maybe)
Patrick Beverly (not if we sign Rondo)
JR Smith (yikes)
Corey Brewer (maybe)
Carlos Boozer (yikes)
Jordan Hill (maybe)
Marco Belineli (maybe)
Jeremy Lin (not if we sign Rondo)
Kosta Koufos (maybe)
Rodney Stuckey (maybe)
Do 2 names from that list really change the fortunes of the team so much that it was worth the move we made? Honestly, I don't know but I don't know that the "risk" we took was as aim high as we'd like to believe.

I think many people are assuming that Rondo is plan C for the Kings but I don't think that's the case. The only reason he hasn't visited yet is because he was travelling. In my opinion he instantly makes Ben and WCS better on offense with his passing game. People got soured on him because of the injuries and the absolute horrible fit that he was in Dallas with Carlisle's offense. Even at the beginning of this last season with the Celtics he led the league in assist % while passing to guys like Olynick and Evan Turner. Obviously the risk on him is the attitude but I'd bet on that more than I would Matthews getting back to pre-injury level. An added bonus is that pushing Collision to the bench immediately makes him a top 5 backup point guard. Like other's have mentioned it also allows us to split the money into POTENTIALLY 3 solid players in Rondo($10mil) Koufas($11mil) Bellinelli($5mil)
What abbout trades? How do you know something is no
Joe JohnsonSure. So since all we have left is cap space, what teams want to move guys for space only?
Nets: Dwill
Warriors: Lee
Hornets: Holiday (probably want a little more than cap space)
Who else?

Well the same way that people think Philly got the better of this deal, right?Wait, how are we going to be players at the deadline without any assets to trade? Take overpaid players from contenders so they can free space? So...just replace what we just spent 3 years of our future to get rid of?
It was reported that we contacted Rondo BEFORE we made the trade to clear space so Ellis and Matthews weren't even in the picture at that point and we heard only rumors about guys like Rondo and Lou Williams. We just offered Ellis and Matthews large deals than they signed for. They were Plan A. If either one of them accept, Rondo would have had to take lower than 10M, just so we had enough to fill out the roster. He was always plan C.
Throw in Alan Anderson, and that would be a massively successful off-season. To go from 5 solid+ NBA players to 9-10 is gigantic leap forward.Beverley wont come here to be a backup when he's a starter in Houston.
Joseph, Stuckey, Koufos, Casspi is probably more realistic
