Leave it to Vlade to craft a contract that honors the player, rewards achievements that benefit the team (not the individual), gives everyone something to be happy about, and preserves the capspace needed for continued growth and success. It wasn't too shocking to see how many discounted him when he first arrived, but I'm glad not to have been in their number.

I'm not a huge fan of incentive based contracts for this reason. The team part is one thing but individual goals can be double edged. I would hope that percentage incentive isn't flat based and has some sort of measure of relativity. You can't be comparing his percentages to players who shoot way fewer 3's in the year.

The simple answer is that likely incentives are counted towards the team's salary cap and unlikely incentives are not. I don't think we've seen an actual list of what the incentives are, but it sounds as if $8M over the course of the deal ($2M per year) are considered likely and would count towards the cap and $12M ($3M per year) are considered unlikely and would not. Presumably this is why some sources reported the deal as $94M, because that's the cap value of the contract.

• His annual salary starts at $24.4 million, then declines to $22.4 million, $20.5 million and $18.6 million, with $2 million in reachable incentives each year.
• Year 1 reachable incentives: Play at least 70 games AND shoot 85 percent from the free-throw line ($500,000); average fewer than two turnovers per game ($500,000); lead the league in made 3-pointers ($500,000); post a defensive rating below 110.5 ($500,000).
So If we get to the finals for 4 yrs buddy gets that last 4 Mil - Im down with that!
